    This lecture changed my life by making me want to become an engineer. It was last year when I was sad with my incompetence with physics so I thought I would relearn the concepts in terms of mathematics and calculus which they did not teach in high-school. I started off with work and energy. All my misconceptions were eliminated by watching this video in the summer and I ended up loving to derive everything from scratch. I thought I'd share my experience so I created a RUclips video about how my physics teacher's notes were incorrect, and my classmates got him to project the video to the class! I had this amazing story to talk about in my university interviews and I ended up being admitted to the #1 university in Canada for Engineering thanks to it. You have my everlasting gratitude Professor Lewin.

    Hello Professor! I enrolled in college at the age of 29: I work durying the day and study the evening. I procrastinated physics as much as I could, since I was always so scared of it, to the point that I almost did not enroll because of it. Now that I have to study it, I'm so glad that I found your lectures on youtube. Everythingy you explain is crystalline (well maybe not always at first, but after some reasoning it's absolutely obvious), and you're actually making me LOVE physics. Your demonstrations are so clear that I repeat your demonstrations every day so that I may fix them in my head forever (I hope!).
    I was puzzled when I saw that your videos had almost no comments: however I just found out that it was an entire set of videos uploaded from another user, with very low quality and with very few views.
    Sorry if I wrote so much, but I just wanted to express my gratitude. I'm quite sure that when I'll get to Electromagnetism I'll be finally able to get it (I had to study it for another exam, but I couldn't really grasp the concepts).
    In short: thank you so much for your exceptional work and passion, and a big hello from Italy!

You said that it was not friction but it was due to its rotation, the potential energy was dividing into KE and Rotational Energy.
    Doesn’t this hold for this model? Why is it following the equations as its not sliding but spinning? (the one shown in this video at 24:14)

    I remember that my 8th grade science teacher always said that doing something faster won't change the amount of work that you do. Would I be write if I said that he is wrong for the reason of your acceleration would change therefore the force would change and then the work output would change.
    Also they way he taught us work (hopefully for obvious reasons) was a lot more simple along the lines of pushing an object (the force) some distance. Where you came at it at a whole different standpoint, do you say that he did something wrong with explaining it?

    • @lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259

      If you lift a mass m from A to B with vertical distance h and you do this with
      ZERO speed in A and ZERO speed in B, then the work you do is mgh, it's the same no matter how fast you do it.

    Dear Prof. Lewin,
    27:53. Why a must is centripetal acceleration >= g ??
    Because I think both point downward ? i.e., g points downward, and centripetal acceleration points inward (which if we are at the top of the loop centripetal acceleration is pointing downward, in the same direction as g).
    So if both are equal in direction, this will not hold the ball in top of the loop ???

    • @lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259
      @lecturesbywalterlewin.they9259  7 лет назад +1

      If at the highest point v^2/R=g, then, when the object is there, there will be no force from the track on the object.The net force on the object is then mg provided by gravity (no help is needed from the track). If the speed gets higher, then the track must exert a force downward at the highest point as mg alone is not large enough to keep it going.

    Why at 46:35 the glass was broke? He was also released that bob with 0 speed from that point?
    Sorry he was actually giving a little pit push which of the cause of breaking the glass.

    Sir I am from India.I am in class 11
    Sir this level of physics you are teaching in college but sir in India this level of physics have been taught to class 11 students . So you should teach more high level of physics ????????????😊

    Teachers who makes physics boring are real criminal !
    Thank you sir for making me fall for physics !

    In reference to the experiment starting at 48:00, is another reason why you didn't get hit by the ball because energy cannot be created only converted? So eventually, if you left the ball swinging, it would stop? A bit like perpetual energy?
    I'm really enjoying your physics lectures, and have been watching them in my spare time. I am planning on rewatching, and taking notes, so I can understand more.

    Sir,In example at 5:43 ,the given condition is that Velocity at A=0=Velocity at B,so how does that object can move that height h with zero net force(as Force by F and force by gravity gives zero net force)
    Please explain it sir
    Sir,also what does it actually mean when in physics it is said that "an object is displaced "slowly" by some force F"(For example it is used in the definition of electrostatic potential )

    Hello professor, At 6:16 you say W_WL = +mgh. I can find that by saying that W_WL + W_grav = 0 thus W_WL = - W_grav = +mgh. However I do not understand how you immediately find that W_WL = +mgh without doing that small calculus. If you lift with a constant force F then the work you do is +Fh. It would mean that F=mg and then the object is not moving. Where am I wrong? Thanks and thank you for your lectures!

      >>> W_WL + W_grav = 0 >>>> yes! The work I do is called change in Potential Energy. But if I lift a gallon of water from the floor to the table the net work is zero. the KE on the ground = 0 , KE on the table = 0 thus no net work was done

      Alright thank you! My mistake was to say that F is a constant because if it were, the speed at the end would not be zero.
