    Due to complications our Mare Taxi almost died a week before she gave birth. We saved her with heavy doses of meds and around the clock care. She was at her limit on med dose treatments and if she didn't give birth today, then we were going to have to induce or take the foal to save her.
    So when she went into active labor we were excited, but anxious about possible complications. When I saw the foals leg get hung up during birth I rendered assistance and then observed Taxi the mare was struggling a bit. Thus I made the decision to render further assistance and speed up the birthing process.
    I likely saved a lot of stress on Taxi, but it doing so produced whats referred to as a dummy foal with the baby horse.
    There are other videos on our channel showing the difficulties regarding dummy foal and how I also assisted with that.
    Fortunately both Mare and Foal are doing great and both are thriving. :)

    ❣ Two huge bursts of water and then Taxi walks away a bit, lays down, and I was worried for a few minutes as there was no movement, the foal's leg was stuck.
    You are wonderful mid-wives, Michael and Nicole, to assist in this delivery and even move the tripod to let us subs see the process. Bravo! Mother Nature at her best! 💯

      Yes, it was amazing that she gave birth during the day when we could assist. Usually the wild horses will give birth overnight or very early in the morning when no one is around. Have a great day

    I know she gave birth a couple of months ago but thank you for showing the whole birthing. I was really worried for her when she didn't get up right away. Now I kinda understand why

    Why isn’t someone comforting her , and helping her with the birth

    • @cbgthegoodkid6425
      @cbgthegoodkid6425 Год назад +1

      I was wondering the same thing, could comforting the mother really hurt anything? Why should they have to go through birth alone like that if they don't have too

    • @oldschoolwoolandweaving835
      @oldschoolwoolandweaving835 4 месяца назад +1

      @@cbgthegoodkid6425 Me too. Given the difficulty and the fact that she isn't licking her foal but clearly wants to, why didn't they just move the foal to the front of her? Then she can lick it and smell it and bond with it. Leaving it vulnerable and wet in the breeze wouldn't be the way I'd do it.

    Will human interference make the mother reject the foal? I'm asking because I have a mare that was starving to death while pregnant. She's not anymore but doesn't have any muscle. She's still pooping down the sides of her legs because she is weak. I didn't breed her nor starve her, I got her from a killpen, and I'm worried I may have to step in and help her get some traction to slide that puppy out. Our relationship is decent. I'm one of the only people she likes, let alone trust. She trusts my friends kid as much as she trusts me, so im wondering if we stood by, but if things went wrong, if it's okay to step in. It would have to be me, the lesson kid she trusts, to be my gopher, and lesson kids mom standing by away from us, standing guard with the boomstick to make sure no cats, bears, or coyotes get any ideas. I'm in rural Wyoming and it simply isn't safe to let her do it alone in her weak state, she wouldn't be able to defend herself or her foal, and I'm worried she may not be able to do it alone. She has that arab loyalty, so I hope that works in my favor.

      I wouldn’t think so since she does trust you. I would recommend reading up on “dummy foal” and the madigan squeeze on Google. You can certainly start her on really good hay and supplements to assist her in gaining weight. Keep giving her lots of love and attention, she will know that you are there to assist her. It will take time and we hope she recovers well. Have a great day! Good luck!!

      @FlyingLRanch-LaresFamily Thank you! I actually really like your dummy foal technique. It was easy to understand, and see exactly what needed to be done. I first saw this video on Daily Dose of Internet and then found your original video. It is something I am worried about, that and red bag 🎒. I'm trying to do more research on both. There's no emergency vet where I live so I have to be prepared

      @sofiabent9129 Год назад

      No, helping won't make them reject their foals. My neighbor bred Arabians for many years. She always helped in the deliveries and the foals never had dummy foal syndrome. Her moms and babies were always healthy and happy.
