Greetings Mrs.Manjula. I started following your videos out of curiosity(what makes Indian food tick) and for alternative vegan recipes for the days(appox.270out of the year) when Orthodox Christians are fasting. I have seen many many similarities between our cuisines(Greek for me) but today....the name"lobia" is equal to the ancient Greek word for beans=lopia! My late father still used it(village dialect) when referring to beans. Lopia means "covered in skin" ie. the pods. Thanx.
simple to make....awesome share.
@sweetythebest

Thank you, this looks delicious! Can't wait to try it! I have a question for you. I am not familiar with many of the spices and other ingredients used in Indian cooking. Could you please tell me what is the purpose of mango powder? Does it act as a thickener or is it for flavor? If it's for flavor, what kind of flavor does it add, a sweetness? Thank you Manjula! :)
Thank you so much.
Love your healthy recipes, thank you!

Hello Aunty,
I love your recipes.
I usually cook lentils differently. I boil them first and keep them aside. Then I do the tarka and making of spice mixture in a pan separately and add the boiled lentils like Lobia in it instead of adding the tarka in the cooker. This should be the same thing, no?
Thank you very much, Manjula Baitee!
Welcome!!
thank you aunty
Thank u.
This looks great! Would you be able to do an updated video with the Instant Pot?
I will try
Thank you for this video, I will try this recipe this weekend.

To add to what you said, I was told by a friend from Greece that tea is called 'chai' in Greek. We call it exactly the same in Hindi. :)

I like your recipes
thank you
You are so lovely Manjula! Love you ! God bless.
Looks great! I'm trying to eat more beans for protein.
I just wish I knew what half of these spices actually are. I don't even think i've seen them in markets. But your technique is what's most helpful.
Shaknowne Chrono they are found in most places. coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder are common. "aam Chur" powder is dried mango powder. garam masala is a mix of spices-cinnamon, cloves, star anise, whole pepper (among other main ingredienta)
Shaknowne Chrono check at any indian grocery store
This looks really nummy! Now I have a reason to buy different beans.
thank you for sharing
My pleasure
How long would it take to cook in a regular covered pot?
Most people do not have a pressure cooker!
Great video Auntie, I don't have a pressure cooker so would I need to soak the beans for a few more hours first? Thankyou.
if you do not have pressure cooker cook for longer may be about 20 more minutes.
Thank you, i'll give it a try.

Can coriander seed powder be used in place of the dried coriander leaf? Will it change the taste too much?
