The second of our vlogs from Leeds sees us take our Narrowboat home to Granary Wharf but have to negotiate the River Lock - going against the flow of the river!
We take a tour around the city before stopping off for some street food and discovery some of Tony's former life...

What a fun look around the city! That river looked very dangerous, pushing you towards the wall like that. The food looked delicious. Well done to those who take the leap of faith of getting their vans all the way up there for the experience.

Cheers Jane! All boats should have a horn fitted - you can't traverse some tunnels without one and anyway, if you're in trouble how do you alert other boaters. Crazy!

My son took me to Trinity kitchen when he first moved up there - we had Thai and it was delicious . Such a great city Leeds, I love it. Loved the throwback video Tony - maybe a side hustle from The Boat?? 😁☺️

We did consider running a food outlet from the boat but there's a lot of hoops to jump through and we didn't think it worth it considering we just wanted to cruise...but never say never...😉

In your flashback to feast on the street,my stomach turned when it shown the Fried Frog Legs,The rest of the vlog was great,I wouldnt like to be a novice boater approaching that first lock,looked very dangerous if you didnt understand the force of the rivers flow.
I don't think I ever tried any frogs legs and anyway, like most things I guess it tastes like chicken!
Rivers need to be treated with respect. A lot of understanding before you traverse on them is the best way - and be prepared! (Old Boy Scout motto relevant here!!) Have a great week 👍

If both 'parties' gave proper sound signnals (as used by 'our' salty bretherin' ), there should be no need for panic....
Onle long blast for 'I am entering the waterway' followed by one or two short blaqt to indicate which way I'm turning.
It's all in the book but nobody bothers.... (sniff)
Quite true Henry. Sadly some boaters simply don't bother using their horn 🙄

I dare say 'street food carts & vans' isn't a new thing, see here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_truck
It's been done to death all over the world, and it still continues today.
FYI: It would be nice to have a real 'walk about' into historic places along the canals, i.e. remaining buildings of yesteryear, then & now coverage, and the like.

I (Tony) personally witnessed the birth of street food when I lived in the US and was part of the movement when it hit the UK and stayed very much part of it until 2018. What was new back in the day was getting the actual trucks inside a shopping centre and I believe Trinity in Leeds is still the only one that features an entire floor dedicated to street food.
Re History: If you watch our vlogs regularly you'll know that we feature quite a lot of the history of the waterways and nearby towns and cities that we visit.
