My new Freelance Documentary E-Book : oftwolands-shop.com/products/...
Over the past 10 years I have shot documentaries and travel videos all around the world and what gear to bring and how to carry it is always an important part of my projects.
In this video I will share some examples based on various shoots I’ve been on. From Antarctica, to Europe as well using different mode of transports for different kits.
Let me know if you have any questions :).
Cheers,
Flo

Today we are talking about traveling with filmmaking gear.
What is you preferred method/kit ?
Cheers,
Flo
awesome video thanks for sharing, I have question, When you get your first camera which comes with kit lenses. What's more important to upgrade or buy next? better lenses or good lights?
Fake accounts trying to send fake prizes! Check my comment above
Great tips! You make it sound so easy lol
Haha thanks man !!
Next time I will join you in Antarctica :) xx
That would be amazing :) !! xx
As always, thanks for the great and insightful content!
Glad you liked it, thanks for taking the time to watch it :) !!
Great vid! When I travel I usually bring my BMPCC6k, 24-105 f/4, 150-600 f/5.6-6.3, Canon 5DsR, and a bunch of accessories.
Glad you liked it! That's a pretty solid kit you have :)
Perfect timing for this video!
Glad to hear!! :) Where are you going ?
@@OfTwoLands Iceland in the fall! Been watching your vids for inspiration too
Nice video Flo. I have a similar philosophy when traveling with gear as a solo operator. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching mate :) !!
Great video flo! I just got done shooting a doc in west Africa and had to go through this whole process! Really grateful for my F-Stop backpack.
Thank you Riley !! Oh wow, I would love to shoot in Africa, what was the project ?
And yes F Stop bags are awesome, I had a few when I was in Sydney :)
@@OfTwoLands It was a documentary for a vocational school in Guinea-Bissau!
Great video!
Thanks !!
Great content ! I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you!!
extremely nice bag, first time seeing it. i also hate travelling with too much gear, especially when solo operating. there is just too much stuff to babysit in a foreign environment.
It is a nice bag for sure !! And 100%, I try to be as nimble as possible when I can especially when I am solo shooting.
In my experience the trickiest decision is where to put light stands: you never know whether to put them in the backpack or in the suitcase right next to the pajama.
Joking aside, over the years I have always tried to be as minimalist as possible, so at most three (vintage) lenses, folding light stands, and compact lights (thanks Aperture!).
I also try to travel, whenever possible, by train especially because of the problems we have been having with planes in Italy recently: cancellations, difficulties with refunds and lack of staff.
Always next to the pyjamas :)
I am also a minimalist when I can and I like a run and gun approach, which definitely helps when travelling.
I have always felt inspired and amazed by your content. Been your avid follower and subscriber since the early time of your RUclips journey.
Another glad moment, when you joined The Videographer's Community in Facebook to share your knowledge, experience and art.
Now adding all onto all of that, I heard Nepal as your next travel destination. I would say, Welcome already and if you feel you need filming assistan to shoot the Himalayas, I would love to be the part of it. Cheers.
Thank you so much for the kind words and for the offer, really appreciate it !! Nepal is a dream and hopefully it'll happen one day :) Cheers
Wonderful video as always, love how you pack and organise all that gear! Hello from Melbourne! Keen to give film convert a go one day, do you recommend using it for BRAW in Davinci Resolve?
Thanks so much mate !! Filmconvert really is awesome!
I never used it in Davinci actually as I edit and color in FCPX, so I can't really comment, but I am sure it is as good :).
My biggest dilemma is whether to take a few primes or a few zooms. I usually go with zooms for convenience and lower weight but I miss working with the primes.
I am exactly the same, it's a tough call for sure!! Zooms are hard to beat when traveling though.
Nice video! How do you deal with the batterylife of the Pocket while travelling?
Thanks!! When I travel I just use a few internal batteries, but if it is for work then most likely I will use my Core SWX :)
what's that patagonia cap. Does it have the net at the back? I can't find any without that also has the big logo
I can't remember the exact model but it doesn't have any adjustments. It is fully covered at the back.
@@OfTwoLands oh damn, I don't think they still sell it. Thanks :)
Great video! I couldn't find what top handle you're using on the lists. Please help?
Thanks !! Maybe they don't sell it anymore since it is quite old but it is very similar to the NATO Handle 1955. tinyurl.com/ynyty95a
Mount Everest Basecamp would be interesting for me as well. 😮.b.t.w. did you ever got Batteries checked for watt/hrs limits and what about travel insurance for your gear?
Everest basecamp would be an amazing experience !! I never got checked for batteries but I always make sure I have small ones or flight rated ones.
I rarely travel just on my own with more than 2 cameras so we always split the batteries. In Australia I always had gear insurance for my whole kit but here in France it is harder to find good and flexible insurances so I insure just whatever kit I am about to use :)
Everest Base Camp is so much commercialized nowadays, I wonder if it makes up for true pristine experience.
There are so many other pristine destinations, less explored virgin lands in Nepal which deserved the frames in our stories much more than Everest herself.
But I guess the first time of seeing Mt.Everest standing right infront of the eyes can be a truly divine experience.
Thanks for sharing. How much grain did you use for the Paris movie?
Thanks for watching !! I used around 80-100 with Nitrate :)
Thanks for the video. My BMPCC 6K screen is almost impossible to read in bright sunlight here in Australia. How did you manage with yours? I see you now use the BMPCC 6K Pro. Is that one much better in bright sunlight? Have a nice day.
Thanks for watching !! I had the 4K and 6K when I was still in Australia and yes the screens can be hard to read. I used my monitor when needed :). The 6K Pro is much brighter, yes, brighter than my current monitor actually! Cheers
Thank you for the reply. I might look into buying the BMPCC 6K Pro and selling my BMPCC 6K. Have a nice day.
Great info. What's the bag at 5:37 ?
Thanks !! WANDRD PRVKE series : shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1183579&u=2827891&m=79898&urllink=&afftrack=
Apologies if this had been posted already. But which camera do you use to take picture or do you put rails of your pocket camera? Love the pictures on your insta.
Thank you !! I think I might have already replied on IG but Canon Eos R :)
@@OfTwoLands sorry yes you have. I’ve just written question in another page. Thank you so much for taking time to reply still and for inspiring many .
Do you have to deal with carnet fees while traveling with your equipment?
I actually never used one as I always travel like any other person I guess.
@@OfTwoLands FYI there is a scammer using your name replying to peoples comments on your video. Report to RUclips
ayo gear lord haha
Haha you know me!
