      Yep, I can almost guarantee that theory, judging by the other crap in the priest's deck to go along with malchezaar.... that's just not a deck you'd throw a pocket mechathun into in the hopes of emptying ur hand and deck and board after playing a bunch of random legendaries and summoning cards, haha. • @jeanbon4961
    @jeanbon4961 5 лет назад +280

    Hey you ! Wanna know the (almost) exact probability of this OTK ? Alright, kid. *Let's do some maths.*
    There are 1868 cards in HearthStone.
    285 cards of them are Legendaries.
    519 cards are spells.
    21 cards were remaining in Toast's oppenent's deck (30 + 5 of Malchezaar - 6 drawn - 9 played + 1 Arcane Giant).
    We can consider that his deck is, at most, full of minions, and at least only has 3 minions (Malchezaar, Mecha'thun, Arcane Giant).
    Malchezaar added 5 random legendaries to Toast's oppenent's deck. One of them was Mecha'thun, that's a probability of 5/285.
    14 spells were cast by Yogg-Saron.
    Mindgames had to be cast within the 3 first spells, else the board would have been full and Mecha'thun wouldn't
    have been summoned. It had a probability of 3/519 to be cast, and had at least a probability of 1/3 to summon Mecha'thun, and at most 1/21 to summon it.
    Myra's unstable element had to be cast within the 12 others spells cast remaining (14 - 1 Mindgames - 1 Cataclysm),
    so that's a probability of 12/519.
    Finally, Cataclysm was the last spell to be cast, so thats a probability of 1/519.
    If you know how a probability tree works, you can easily calculate that Toast had :
    At least a probability of (5/285)*(3/519)*(1/3)*(12/519)*(1/519) = 180/119527596945 = 1/664042205,25
    At most a probability of (5/285)*(3/519)*(1/21)*(12/519)*(1/519) = 180/836693178615 = 1/4648295436,75
    That's not one in a billion, Toast. That's one in *FOUR BILLIONS*.
    GG.

    • @steffenml
      @steffenml 5 лет назад +27

      Jean Bon Thanks! I missed a couple things in my own because I was in a hurry xD
      But you also need to add in the chance of NOT drawing a card which clears your deck before then, and he didn’t have to get Myra, he could have gotten any spell which draws at least four cards. We also have to add in the chance of not dying to fatigue, and we need to add the fact that he could have casted a total of 18 spells. It could happen on spell 1+2+3, or it could happen later than it did in the video.
      Basically even your calculation is lacking some key components for it to be accurate :-) There are an incredible amount of components to consider, which is why I said calculating it would be very time consuming. I’ll see if I have the energy for it later.

    • @jeanbon4961
      @jeanbon4961 5 лет назад +23

From the look of that priest deck, Mechathun was added by Malchezar, if we count it according to that: 1/55( Odd of getting Mechathun from Malchezar since 5 out of 276)*1/364(For getting Mindgames)*1/15 (approx chance of getting MEchathun from Mindgames)*1/364 (for Myra's)*1/376 (for Catacylism)

      The exact maths is hard to do (or rather time consuming), but here is an approximation. He has an 82% chance, in 17 (out of 18) spells, to not destroy his board. He has a 71% chance of drawing a least one card. Appx 4% chance of drawing the ‘Thun, 3% of playing that card in the first 17 turns, and 0.2% chance to cataclysm.
      This won’t be accurate, but the chance is NO MORE than 1:700.000, and if I would spend some more time on it I am pretty sure I’d end up somewhere between 1:1m and 1:2m

    • @GreaterGood258

      5/102 that Malchazar put Mech'thun in his deck (assuming he had no other Legendary minions in his deck already), and I'll be generous and say 1/10 for Mindgames to pull exactly that, and now for the big one: 1/509 *3 times* for Yog to cast each spell in that order, multiplied by however many spells Toast had cast that game (I didn't keep track...). Once for Mindgames (Free from Amber could have also gotten Mech'thun, but that's literally the only way you could make this more unlikely), once for Myra's (technically any card draw would have done since he only had one card left (and Yogg actually did draw another card after it), but Myra's is what emptied his deck), and once for Cataclysm (accept no substitutes! (because there are none...)).
      Anyone want to turn this into a coherent fraction for me, since I no math good?

    • @jeanbon4961
      @jeanbon4961 5 лет назад +4

      That's at least 1/664042205,25 and at most 1/4648295436,75 (I explained it with details in my comment, just search for it)

    • @josephfletcher2250
      @josephfletcher2250 5 лет назад +3

      @@steffenml You're on the right track, but the chance that Yogg would cast cataclysm is closer to 2% than .2% since he casts more than 10 spells and there are around 500 spells in wild. I'm also not sure about the chance to get Mechathun since there are only 2 spells that could directly summon it and a few pairs of spells (like omega assembly and boomship) that could also put it out. My best guess is somewhere between 1 in 100,000 and 1 in a million.

    3/2,000,000,000,000

  • @godsdemons2421
    @godsdemons2421 5 лет назад

    I've done some math on this. To simplify I'm doing rough probabilitys (odds of drawing a specific card in first third of deck is 33% instead of 29/30*28/29*27/28...)
    First: He likely got Mecha'thun from Malchezaar the chances for this are roughly 1 in 60.
    He charged 18 Yogg spells*
    Second: Opponent had to not draw mecha'thun in the 12 cards he drew (a two in three chance)
    Third: Within those 18 spells, he had to cast exactly mind games (and hit mecha'thun) within 17 cards he would need to play one of these and hit Mecha'thun, odds of hitting either in 17 cards is seventeen in 548 (however it also has to be before cataclysm, so we'll do odds of this at 9 in 548 and odds of cataclysm as 9 in 548)
    (Note: There are other summon cards, but those odds are so astronomically low they will likely not have a large impact on this as such I'm ignoring them)
    Fourth: That card has to pull mecha'thun (odds of hitting with mindgames is at worst one in 22 since opponent had 22 cards in deck)
    Fifth: In the remaining casts exactly cataclysm has to cast, OR the discard hand for 10 mana crystals card+other board clear (NOT DOOM) just calculating for cataclysm as it's the cleanest way this can go off.
    And during all of this Yogg can't die, and Mecha'thun can't die before cataclysm goes off. The calculation here is so complex, let's say 1 in 10 shot Yogg doesn't mess something up before casting cataclysm.
    The final odds depend on amount of minions in opponents deck (between 1 and 22) so we get a range from 1 in 200 million to 1 in 4.4 billion. So as long as the opponent had 5 or more minions in their deck (extremely likely, with malchezaar and a deathrattle deck) your one in 1 billion odds are not only fair but likely TOO lenient.

    If you wanted to predict your heartstone career from start with exact outcomes as they happened.
    _1 in billion chance would seem like always true._
    *TLDR : my games have way lower chances.*

    • @misterdrgn5155
      @misterdrgn5155 5 лет назад

      I don't think people understand what you're saying, but I tend to agree (if I'm understanding). It's kinda misleading to say something has a 1 in a billion chance of happening because any outcome would have had a 1 in a billion chance of happening. Just like how it's highly improbable that you'd toss a coin five times and get heads every time, but it's equally improbable that you'd get H T H T H. We just ascribe more importance to some random outcomes than to other equally likely random outcomes.
      It's still amazing though.
