Thank you so much for doing these sew alongs for your patterns. I'm very much a visual learner, and while I can put together a garment with just written instructions, it's so nice to see things in action and also learn some new techniques that I may not have thought of or seen before!
Love this pattern and love this sew along even more. I'm a beginner sewist and this is the very first jacket I've ever made. I'm almost finished and your sew along has made it so much more doable and fun.
I should have watched this video BEFORE sewing everything except the buttons... Great video. Somehow on my pattern I missed the circle-markings. They made my head smoke during construction. Thanks a lot, next time I will sew the Ilford better, cleaner and - maybe - faster 🤗
Thanks for these. I would have found it helpful to watch a sped up video of you sewing the steps you did on the body before the start of the video, just because I'm an intermediate/beginner. Any chance you could add that?
This is so useful, thank you! I'm new to sewing patterns, sorry - when you edge-stitch along the placket to finish it off, how do you make sure that everything underneath is caught at an even width the whole way down if you're sewing it from the top? Is it just a case of measuring very carefully and hoping that it's all working out under there?? Yours looks so neat and near the edge when you flip it over! Thanks!
Hello! I'm glad it is helpful :) You would sew down the placket with the underside facing up. If there is a reason you need to sew from the top you could baste it in place first and then follow the line of stitches you created to make sure everything gets caught underneath. Hope that helps!
@@FridayPatternCompany oh wow ok, I thought it would show if you sewed it from the other side - clearly I'm still very new to this! That makes a lot more sense than doing it from the other side, thank you for the quick response!!
Love this video! I have bought a paper pattern and there are no circle markings on my bodice pattern pieces . :/ Can I add them somehow? Where do they go? ^^
What is the distance of the circle mark to the edge on the sleeves? I didn't see those marked on my printed pattern (were these part of the update?), and am planning on sewing the sleeves this weekend. Thanks!
The circle marks are part of the update. If you send me an email I can send you updated files so you can check them out. If you want to add them they are on the seam line (so 5/8" in from the edge of the pattern piece).
@@FridayPatternCompany Thanks! I mentioned this to a friend of mine, and they recently purchased the pdf after I was telling them about the project. They sent they sent me the updated sleeve file. I'll contact you now!
ah I see there are two patterns and sets of instructions but they both have the same file names. I must have the original set before the boxy sleeve shape changed and the dots were added.
Hi! I’m currently sewing an Ilford jacket at home, my sleeve shape is flat on the shoulder seam, but I noticed in your video yours goes to a peak. Have I done something wrong or was there a pattern update? Just worried my sleeve will look wonky 🤣
@@emilyhatcher4815 Yes, you may have the old version. If you email me I can send you the most current version so you can check it against the one you have! Hello@fridaypatterncompany.com
in this video, there is a reference to a dot on the front and back pieces but there is no dot on the pattern. Please can someone let me know where I place the dot? I think I recall seeing a post somewhere that the purpose of the dot is to somehow reduce bulk in the underarm but I now cannot find where this information came from! Thank you for your help!
Miranda - email Chelsea at hello@fridaypatterncompany.com - you have the original pattern, it's been updated and is quite a bit better. She'll email you the updated version
Hello! We updated the pattern to add more sizes and made some additional tweaks. We would be happy to send the updated pattern if you email us at hello@fridaypatterncompany.com
There is no information on pressing the seam allowances of the sleeve head or sleeve and body side seams in the written instructions or in this video sewalong. Should all seams be pressed open?
That u-turn method for the bias is awesome! Thanks for sharing!

You have the most wonderful energy Chelsea, thank you for a lovely series 💕
I love your patterns and your tutorials are brilliant thanks Chelsea xx
Clever girl. I really enjoyed watching your video. Thank you
Beautiful jacket! Thanks for sharing these sew alongs. Love the edge finishing too.
Thanks Chelsea. This is a great tutorial. I love the one you’re wearing at the end.
Really great to see how the placket works. I was not happy with my first one, but the printed fabric hid a lot. Thanks. I love this pattern.
Great video. Thank you. Helped me loads.
Hi first time have found you! This is just fantastic in every way, thank you, perfect tutorial, clear and gives me hope! X
Excellent video! Thank you!
Hi I really like your videos and I just purchased the Ilford Jacket today and can’t wait to get started. Big kisses from London
Brilliant video as always Chelsea. I'm about to buy your Ilford pattern so this is very timely and useful! Many thanks. 👌👍😁

Did you make it??
@@niroz6579 yes, I made one out of a quilt.
I love this pattern I just wish this video was longer and more detailed. So hard to follow along as a new sewer

what fabric is it the orange or brown one?, it is lovely!
Where did you get the awesome tiger fabric for the coat you're wearing? It is great! Thanks.
Thanks! What’s the fabric you used for this Ilford?
Hi Fabulous tutorial Can i ask the width of the bias binding please
Love this! This is so helpful! Is this also for the updated pattern too? Thanks for posting! ❤️

Yes, press your seams open!
My two cents. Not a good sewing pattern for men. Sleeves too short, even adding 10 cm and overall too tight.
