That inner cushion on the pads is super important. I spent $800 on xion protective gear and couldn't even wear it for 4 hours because it was an absolute torture device. Having my points of my elbows up against the D3O along with the bony parts of my shoulders was very painful along with the overall design of the outfit being horrible. Looks like this solves all the issues that the xion had. I might get it.
you can remove the back protector, e.g. for washing, or if you want to put on another one with protection level 2. same for elbows, shoulders and chest. It is a pity that the protection of the abdomen and especially the ribs is not made of D3O, but of some thin foam without a certificate. However, if you have time, an idea and a sewing machine, I think you can replace it with D3O :)
