- Cleans, hang cleans, power cleans, hang power cleans . . . all in less than 3 minutes! What are the differences between these lifts, and how can we easily remember each one?
When lifting, we strongly recommend lifting shoes (see our video below on that topic). Here are some solid options:
Nike Romaleos 4: amzn.to/3LAYn8d
Inov-8 Fastlift 360: amzn.to/3xIoXGZ

Maaaaan I have been looking for a video like that for like two years or more. You summarized it in two minutes. Can’t thank you enough
You're very welcome!

Great video. Thank you.
You’re very welcome.
Thank you was looking to get back into more athletic power movements and remembered doing what my football coach called hang cleans but what he had us doing was actually the hang power clean variation
You’re welcome Ray, and that exact scenario of hang clean versus hang power clean back in high school is a very common one and one of the reasons we made this video.
@@TestifySC glad I found it was getting frustrated not seeing the same movement pattern I was doing almost 20 years ago
very clear. Thank you.
You are welcome!
this was such a good video. pop off
Thanks very much.
Thank you
You’re welcome!
Finally, easy, short to the point
Subbed
Thanks - glad it was useful!
Yes, this helps
Great - glad to hear it!
I can never move my arms right for these or front squats. It’s hard to describe but I can’t get my hands under the bar or elbows in a good position.
That's a common issue, especially for those who start performing cleans as an adult rather than learning them when young. This might help:

I'm a little confused dont you have to be straight through triple extension?
I'm not quite sure about the meaning of your question, but every clean (squat, power, or hang) will involve extension of the hips, knees, and ankles (i.e., triple extension, as you mentioned) before receiving the bar on the shoulders. With that said, this video is not discussing that aspect of the lift, but is rather dedicated to helping people understand the difference between a clean (i.e., squat clean or full clean), power clean, and hang clean.
Is the bar always dropped between reps? I workout in my garage and don't want to drop the bar each time.
We have our lifters lower anything with 10 kg plates on the bar under control, but anything with 15 kg plates on the bar or larger is generally dropped. That's a nice advantage to bumper plates - you can save some energy for the next lift, and it also saves some wear and tear on the hands, which can be considerable when regularly practicing the snatch and CJ. That said, you should still follow the bar most of the way down to the floor with your hands on the bar - in other words, it's a controlled drop. This way, the bar doesn't land crooked (which is a good way to bend a bar over time). The clips cut out when Abby drops it, but you can still see (at least a little) that she has her hands on top of the bar as she starts to drop it.
so are cleans overall the better workout compared to the 3 ?
Which 3 are you referring to? Squat, bench, or deadlift? Or are you referring to the 3 clean variations?
@@TestifySC yea the 3 variations. u have them labeled as Cleans, Hang Cleans, and Power Cleans so i’m asking is “Cleans” the better overall workout in ur opinion ?
Who’s here because of joe rogan? Just me then lol
I admit this went over my head. Did he talk about the difference between these lifts?
@@TestifySC lol sorry man. He was chatting with some power lifter (I think)… the guy said dead lifts are a waste of time for the risk to reward mentioning athletes that rely on being healthy do your exercises. I didn’t know what they were properly which led me to your video
@@lukehodgson7746 Ah, no worries, and thanks for the explanation. I hope this was useful for you.
I've heard that risk-reward argument before for deadlifts not being worth it, and it's interesting because we actually utilize the deadlift - not only to build strength (lower back, hips, legs, upper back, etc.) - but also to rehab back injuries, and it works extremely well.
same, he mentioned risk reward of dead lift and recommended power cleans over them.
@@lukehodgson7746you’re talking about Robert Oberst, and I’m here from that video too
