As someone who did coached SS workouts for a couple of years, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Friendly, safe environment with like minded people. Got super strong and kept with it in my home gym. I didn’t know this guy but all Starting Strength coaches are all trained the same and actually have to pass a very rigorous practical. If you think you’re too old to lift, think again. I witnessed many many men and women in their fifties, sixties, and seventies get strong and kick butt.

I see ALOT of FAT people in this video…is this a NEBRASKA thing? I’d suggest putting down two things…a fork, and the heavy weights. ALOT more cardio and/or circuit….because the abdominal adipose don’t lie!
Great, accessible video! I would suggest, however, that people need to keep their eyes up when squatting. The body follows the gaze, so a person will fold down when eyes are focused down.
I’ve done high and low bar squats. Got more strength from high bar so I don’t get your point. Not everyone responds the same way
It’s really nice and inspiring to see regular folks of various ages and abilities doing the work. I watch many of these types of vids, and (the AI 🤖 ones especially) will show young, fit people doing the exercises.

Great, quick video! But Chuck Taylors aren't squishy if you remove the insole. You only need squat shoes if you lack the ankle mobility to squat properly. And the lowbar squat doesnt demand much ankle mobility...

I don't know whether I should cry or laugh at this. You're making weightlifters use low bar for their squats? What. Sidenote: What's the best Sinclair score one of your weightlifters have hit? Male or female.
High-bar squats for the win!
Addendum: I haven't seen it very often. Maybe twice in the last five years, but don't squat in socks. That's a Darwin award right there. Lifting shoes will help a bit with butt wink as well.
When you squat, hold your breath like you're going underwater, and you get to breathe again at the top. Somebody once told me, that.

Sorry, I switched to high bar and I'm never going back.
I alternate them. I can lift more with the low bar and I feel the squat more in my glutes and hamstrings. But I prefer the high bar due to the increased range of motion.
I just switched too and I can actually feel that my legs had to work. Specifically the quads of course. I low-barred for years and got no growth in my legs. Nothing was happening but I was getting a much stronger mid back and a thick abdomen. I don't mind that but I missed the days of leaving the gym on jelly legs like when I high-barred naturally in high school and college. I get the low bar and I think it's right but I wasn't getting leg growth and my progress was so slow because of that. It's weird to have squatted for years (low bar) and my legs didn't develop at all, thus my squat was plateau'd

Why does my bar drift forward when I begin the pull?
I'm 67 and just started resistance training again after four years of just not caring about it. When I was 61 a navy doctor pretty much ripped me a new one for doing resistance training. I kept it up for awhile, but just couldn't eat enough to keep up with my workouts, Plus I was working12 hour night shifts. I'm retired now, so as I said I've restarted my strength journey. I just found your videos the other day and will be watching more of them. I do want to incorporate some strong man stuff as well as some steel mace into my workouts, but for now it's mainly barbell dumb bell and calisthenics.
I believe that explaining the difference between high-bar and low-bar back squats would be more helpful for critics. In my experience, most people are unaware of them

Maybe I’m a gear nut, but I love and swear by the Lockjaw Pro, and I just now bought a pair of Rouge Competition Collars. Maybe just for the novelty when I go for PR attempts, but I can understand in a commercial gym setting they gonna get trashed. Local meets I’ve been to they never seem to use the comp collars, not even at the state meet. Weird, out of the four gyms I’ve been to, only one actually uses the comp collars. I loved that DIY platform and jerk block videos btw. Thanks for sharing.

Form will breakdown somewhat under heavy loads. Form Police usually don't even lift.
@@rapmann your form breakdown that much means too much weight. Widen your stance and work on strengthening your hips. Getting in the habit of poor form with heavy weights will guarantee an injury
@@Gettothegone That was a small amount breakdown. If he goodmorning'd even 20% more of that squat then I'd agree. But this is more a symptom of pushing yourself. Also, this small snippet probably doesn't translate into that lifter's everyday so your comment is still rude and meaningless.
It's a good morning swuat to full depth on a wide stance. At some point unavoidable with longer femurs and wide like that.
