  • How Dainese Smart Jacket stands out from other motorcycle airbags?
When Dainese invented the first electronically-activated airbag for road motorcycles, it had only one goal in mind: To offer the best possible protection in a garment that is comfortable and usable by everyone.
Years have passed since then, during which the R&D department has continued to work tirelessly, constantly raising the bar. Today, we are able to offer you Dainese Smart Jacket, a comfortable, lightweight and versatile vest that, owing to the innovative patented D-air® technology, additionally offers incredible certified protection, higher than that of traditional motorcycle airbags.
Let's see together in this video how Dainese D-air® airbag works and what are the most important things you should know when evaluating the effective protection of a motorcycle airbag.

My question is If you wear this underneath your jacket, what's preventing this from causing damage to your torso because of how it will compress your torso as it expands? it has no where to go outward because the jacket is sealed so it would just move inward?

Lots of front and rear protection, but where is the side of the body protection? Better than the competion - dont think so !

  • @cesarylleraruiz7016

I have a question. The rear airbag has a level 1 protection and they say that it is equivalent to 7 back protectors. Level 1 must transmit a force of less than 35 kiloNewtons, level 2 must transmit less than 20 kN. How is it equivalent to 7 back protectors if it transmits more force than a level 2 back protector in case of impact?
I mean if it is equivalent to 7 level 1 back protectors as indicated in the photo, the force should be divided by 7, it should transmit less than 3 KN as advertised.

Hi, i've had the same question and apparently it is level 1 rating for an airbag which is not the same as level 1 rating for a typical back protector. Hope this helps

why not just wear a back armour level 2, then a hardshell spine protector then an airbag vest aswell? that will solve it.

Eh your missing the sides of the torso and lats area. It should protect 360 degrees, and just get a car to run over it instead of the motorcycle then we can talk money. Its nearly 2023 we should have 360 degree airbag protection as standard by now.

I get the sentiment, and understand there's definitely progress to be made in protection for motorcyclists. But the claim is never made that this is the end all be all to protection. And ultimately, as motorcyclists we should understand that we are putting ourselves into more danger every time we ride on the road on a motorcycle. There's no way around that. This product will without a doubt save lives. It's not a perfect solution, but don't let perfect be the enemy of good. This is progress in the right direction. I'm hoping to see lots more innovation in the motorcycling world myself, but this is going the right direction, without a doubt.

I've been comparing the two and both have major compromises. Arguably your neck and spine are most important to avoid being paralyzed if your head gets forced backwards on impact. Haven't found and electronic airbag that saves the neck like that. Only my helite airbag has that, but its clunky and I wish Dainese or Alpinestars would make something without compromises
