    Have had one since 2020. Just had a crash with it, and it worked better than I expected. Not a scratch on me, after a 50+mph lowside. TA5 deployed before I hit the ground. It felt like a very gentle deployment -- I really barely noticed it. Really amazing!

      @@WillfulThinker Well... You don't. You can send it away to be cleaned, but it can take weeks to get back depending on where you are. I use deodorant on mine, the same deodorant that I use on me. It worked nicely enough, until there was a shortage of my usual deo and the one I replaced it with proved to be a disaster. Right now that vest is sitting unused, until I send it away to be cleaned. I logged more than 700 hours on mine I think, including two minor crashes. I think the technology's great, but the lack of consideration given to washing it is quite disappointing. It's supposed to be worn everyday for commuting after all. I wear mine beneath shoulder amour, though it's probably redundant.

    I'm proud owner of Tech-Air 5... there are only two issues I have...
    1. Bluetooth communication between vest and phone is REAL pain, regardless if you use iPhone, or Android phone. It is really really f****** hell.
    2. You really get sweat in it, if you are not riding, or if you are rinding in the city. So still waiting for Tech-Air 3 🤩

    • @VincentTL
      @VincentTL Год назад +2

      I don't use the Bluetooth function when riding because it's crap. Once my phone loses its "line of sight" with the CPU unit (which is basically all the time when I ride since my phone is usually in a breast or jacket pocket in my jacket), then it gets disconnected. Don't know if that can be fixed with a firmware update, or if it's hardware-dependent. But yes, me too, I'm a proud Tech Air 5 owner/user. :)

      TA5 doesn't provide any abrasion protection. Also, if you crash without a jacket over it, the airbag will surely be shredded. Instead of $180 for service, it will cost you $800+tax.

    • @scottishmudders8357
      @scottishmudders8357 Год назад

      You can certainly wear it under no issues atall provided you give your self some inflation room. I ride now with dainese race air and it’s very uncomfortable but I know it’s a superior product though the downside is it’s not for street it’s track only …. The alpine stuff is brilliant very good and comfortable. I agree comfort is a factor I think if you’re comfortable you ride better but also there’s a balance between comfort and safety … it’s the good old fine line lol

    welcome to protected body but ending in a wheel chair. As usual, just a few companies are caring about locking neck . I have helite and yes it saved me twice, helmet neck spin all locked...

    • @wisebloodnyc
      @wisebloodnyc 11 месяцев назад +5

      I have no expectation that a single garment will provide all the protection I need. Get a LEATT neck brace if you want to guard against neck injury.
      The Helite (and all similar tether-based systems) have a lot of problems. Here are the two big ones:
      1. It's a mechanical system, and wears out. The metal cable corrodes. The spring weakens. The piston stop deforms. This makes the performance very inconsistent, and unpredictable over time.
      2. Where you connect it to your bike creates a bias. If you connect it on the right side, for example, you must fall further to the right before it will deploy. If you connect it to the front, then you will travel further forward in the event you crash into an object in front of you. This also creates a great deal of unpredictability in the Helite/teather-based systems.
      FYI, I owned a Helite for years, and commuted on it every day. Everything I described above is based on my personal experience. I had the steel cable corrode and break off, rather than deploy. The piston wore down and the force to deploy became very low. (It deployed one time when I turned to look behind me at a stop light.)
      The TechAir5, and all similar digital autonomous systems are better in all these ways. The only types of these systems I would avoid are those which are based on a subscription business model. (Can you imagine your airbag not deploying because your credit card was declined? Or, due to a billing error? Hell no to that!)

    I bought one after reading about broken ribs & scapula on one Utube test rider's slow speed urban slip on diesel.....but...
    In the instruction book it has an exemption clause for pacemakers or heart conditions. Written in RED it stated Do Not Use if........
    So, sadly, I returned the garment for a refund......but am still wondering why I am excluded from using one when I am still able to ride according to doctors/cardioligists.... Is it a case of legal liability protection or nanny state overkill?
    Sure I have had open chest surgery, but from the video's made by Alpine Stars the TA5 looks like it inflates very gently and does not crush the chest, unless maybe, it's installed in a non compatible (not enough expansion room) jacket.
    I'm perplexed. I want one, it's got the best rib cage coverage over Dianese and Klim vests, which kook like giant life vests for boating when they inflate.........
    Perhaps Alpine Stars reps can advise, as staff at shops just don't know the answer.......I think I will end up buying one anyway - after watching the video it passes my seat of the pants test criteria, but an affirmative answer from a technical expert would be very helpful 🤔

    I do not recommend this vest in one and a half it stops working it no longer turns on and the bag there that is inside the vest always comes out of its place which should be putting at risk that in any fall or when it inflates it will be plowed in a position inadequate that could hurt you more and another thing is that the clasp that is on the front that activates everything comes undone very easily and to make the 5-year guarantee valid they put many locks on you and in the end you have to pay more and be careful why you They say that there is a specific way to charge the vest, why else would they tell you that you damaged it by connecting it incorrectly and they no longer want to make the warranty valid and they never show you how it should be with their USB charger and in the official video they say and show what it is very easy and fast but it does not specify that it must be connected from an exact position

    It really is too bad I have had too look elsewhere when it comes to gear. My last straw was the almost $400 Gp Tech v2 gloves I was excited but a little cautious about lasted one 4 hr ride on the street. My right ring finger the stitching came out and left a gaping hole. About the first 2 inches of the finger split open. First was a pair of gloves that fell apart two years ago, then a $1300 suit, and now these. Come on, you guys have the history and respect but seem like your losing your quality for quantity. I hope you guys check this out. But, probably not. This won't even be looked at.
