Just bought a 94 C3500 dually. Had to replace the Nv4500. Next is the brakes. Pre PMD 94. Can't wait to do the bomb proofing that you and a few others have talked about. Zero rust on the truck.

Great video and covered quite a few issues with this platform. Thought I would add that an upgraded set of oil lines is a must, if they are still stock. Another thing to consider would be the exhaust, in particular the down pipe. A diamond eye exhaust system with a soot trap delete is a popular system. Own a 94 since new and have made all the upgrades to make it as reliable as one can get, without getting into the engine itself. Mine still has the vacuum pump to run the wastegate for the turbo with boost maxing out at around 8 psi. Folks tend to look down their nose at them but with modest improvements can be made quite reliable. I will never part with mine.

Hi, Jesse. Very informative videos, as several others have here on RUclips. I'm doing all my research right now on the 6.5s. I currently have my eye on a 96 K2500 suburban. The truck overall is in very good condition (no rust, dents, dings, scratches, et cetera - Interior has no stains, droops in the headliner, and the driver seat doesn't even have a single rip in it). My concern is definitely the 6.5 Detroit Diesel, although my experience with the 6.5 in the Army was very, very good (HUMVEE).
Whats the part number for that belt ? I am deleting my vacuum pump and keep getting factory pn 6k905 when i look to order for a 93 6.5 its whats on there now with the pump in place.
How do you feel about the 4l80e trans? I've seen alot of people upgrading the the Duramax trans cooler saying that it really helps if you are doing any form of towing
Duramax trans cool is definitely a big upgrade for keeping the 4l80e cool, leroy diesel also has an upgrade and a relocation kit for this. As far as issues I have seen is reverse has a tendency to go bad, especially if you dont wait for it to lock into reverse. Other than that I haven't really had any trouble out of them. Definitely a stronger trans than the 4l60 in my opinion.
When you deleted the vacuum pump how did you get rid of the check engine light? Cause on mine I have it on still but it’s not connected I got the turbo master in it but the check engine light stays on I’m just wondering man how you get that off
No problem man! Pretty common issue after deleting the vaccume pump. You'll have to clear the code with a scan tool and if it doesn't go out or stay off you'll have to get it programmed.

You can find them on line, just type in 6.5l pmd relocation kit any a bunch of different options will pop up. I personally run a fsd kit but have run others in the past with no issues. Installing the kit can very on time depending if your going to use the old pmd you currently have or install a new one. If you buy a new one the process is literally a 10min job. If you plan on using the pmd that is mounted on the injection pump then you'll have to remove the intake manifold to get at it, that's about 30min all said and done. You'll also have to buy new intake gaskets but they are not expensive.
Hey Jesse just wanted to through this question at ya before I send my truck the the shop.....I got small bit of blow by on my truck and it is coming through the pvc valve and into my intake before the turbo was just wondering if those gass will damage the motor should I reroute or just block it off for the mean time...any thoughts would be great ........its a 1994 c2500 vin type f with the gm 4 turbo 350,000 on her She sat for 6 years and got her going last summer got a lot of new parts and would like to get some more info before I dump in more money thank Daniel
Hey Daniel, Those gasses will not damage the motor, the PCV tube leading into the intake was designed that way to prevent build up of crank case pressure and blow out seals so I would recommend not plugging it off. You could vent it to the atmosphere but it doesn't hurt anything leaving it attached 👍
I was wanting to put the wicked wheel 2 on the turbo with the manual wast gate heath desiel said I got to just replace head studs and run the blue program to do so is the correct I think you talked about that in one of your videos but can't recall Thank you...keep making those videos very helpful 👌
@@danielshoaf7353 I'm not super familiar with heath diesel products as far as the blue program but headstuds is always a plus to keep the heads to the block, prevent head gasket issues. Wicked wheel is a viable option. With heath I hear people say either they really like the products or they don't, so I just tend not to use them.
I think an oil centrifuge surves a purpose for sure. It does a good job of filtering out the soot from the engine which in turn allows the engine to run more efficiently. However with proper and frequent oil changes you dont really need it, but anything to help the oil stay clean helps. I dont personally run one at the moment and I've only installed one on a buddies truck, other than that you cant go wrong with having one.
I fitted one to my rv (Yes it has the 6.5 T Between oil changes at 10000K`s I get about 70ml on the seperator , Im happy to not have it being sucked into the turbo and after 30000Ks ( sorry i dont know Miles ) The turbo is as clean with no oil residue Mine was $200 from ebay Best money spent in my way of thinking
Depends on what your looking for out of a turbo but, super54 or super60 from quadstar tuning or an hx40ii. If your looking for alot of turbo whistle or higher boost, super60 is best. If your looking for a solid budget turbo that will give you good boost and a very respectable turbo whistle hx40ii. 👍
the vacuum pump also allow which vent the air conditioning comes out. I have a 2000 van with the 6.5 and when my vacuum pump goes out the air only comes out of the floor vents and defrost vents.
Both my 6.5l trucks I have deleted the vacuum pumps on and the defrost works just fine, don't know the differance on a van but I've never had an issue.
@@JessePelkey1 I know on the vans the switch that controls whether or not it's the heater vents the dash vents the defrost that switch is vacuum controlled. So without a source of vacuum you won't be able to change which vents your air comes out. It only comes out the floor vents and the defrost vents nothing will come out of the dash vents. I just found your videos today I've had two express 3500s with the 6.5 turbo diesel one I bought in 2005 with 150,000 miles on it and unfortunately I was in a really bad car accident last year but at the time it had 748,000 miles on it. The one I have right now has 562,000 mi on it and I still get with that one 19 and a half miles a gallon on the highway. I'm really enjoying your videos

@@JessePelkey1 I am picking up in the next day or two a 95 suburban with 6.5 turbo diesel and only 185,000 miles. So soon after that I'm going to be doing the bulletproofing all the various things.
It will change the drive pressure making the turbo more efficient. For example, if your turbo was operating at a 1:1 the wicked wheel would operate at say a 1.5:1 or a 2:1 ratio. It will take less effort on the exhaust side to make the same amount of boost on a wicked wheel compared to the stock set up. It will help lower egt's as well. (The numbers are just examples)

I found the paint code in the glove box, took it to O'riley and found out what my paint color was. Olympic white. Then I sanded everything down primed it and painted.
Gm8 turbo is the biggest factory turbo that came on the 6.5l, it dissipates heat the best of all of them and overall a great stock turbo so long as you dont ask over 16psi of boost for long periods of time consistantly. If you do plan on pushing more fuel into the motor and want to add air to support the fuel gain I would recommend getting an aftermarket.
@Donny 8721 you will have to make sure you get correct exhaust inlet for the manifold to the turbo mount and you might have an issue with the down pipe. There are a couple different hx35s that have slightly different exhaust mounts to the manifold.

For the 95 and older trucks the part number is 1010k6 and for the 96 and newer the part number is 6pk2522 in order to delete the vacuum pump 👍

I wouldn’t mind having those cat filters. I would just be worried about them being mounted so low. Would it be possible to mount them in another spot
Yes and I plan to do so, wasn't able to because my bed mount is off at the moment but will be pulling it back in place in a future video

Will the pmd make the truck throttle wide open when crank
It sure will. Pmd controls the pump. If the pmd is messed up itll most certainly make the pump act up making the rpms do some wild stuff.

Definitely not a gm7 turbo if it is a side mount. The gm7 was a center mount turbo. That long number is a replacement variant
