Great video! Love seeing it come together. I will be that guy though, and clarify that, despite the confusing name, the "light load advance" lever actually retards the timing. It's possible it was to help engine reliability. I'm guessing with the bigger pump builds, pump timing is a key part of making a hot pump .
I love the real time videos it gives a better understanding of what your doing. I just found your channel love what you’re doing. I would like to ask a question I have a 1996 Chevy one done Dooley 6.5 I have done a lot of upgrades to it but mostly just for reliability. What is a good scan tool to check and set the timing on my DS4 injection pump I was looking at one on quad star. But they’re all sold out. Thank you
man i live in Denver Colorado I have 96 3500 6.5 i would like to bring mine there and get ya'll to get it running right its knocking i think its a fuel problem and not the engine due to the fact that i put about 500 miles on it to get it home with the sound and also having problems building boost truck seems sluggish. had it been a spun rod bearing or bent push rod I'm assuming it would have blown way before the 500 well to say the least i know driving it home was a bad idea more damage but that's what money and projects and hobbies are for. the noise is only noticeable on startup when the engine is cold and starts to be less noticeable when at operating temperature so i dont think its the engine . i checked for vacum and vacum leaks from the pump up to the lines seems to be all good i and feel suction on the end going to the turbo seems presure ok i can here the turbo spool and pull but its very weak i cant make it up the pass on the Eisenhower tunnel through the mountains steep grades are challenging even with no towing
Ill be watching your videos from now on people talk so much shit on the 6.5 but its been the best mileage wise compared to any diesel from my experience and you can get them cheaper than any other diesel and comes in one the the best trucks ever built its a shame more people havent tried to find their full potential i hope this thing rips
An 88-98 chevy/gmc truck is my favorite truck ever built! I will own a 6.2/6.5 until the day I die. Great fuel mileage, very affordable, very easy to do a few modifications to make a nearly bulletproof setup!
I have a 1997 6.5L Diesel C3500 Crew cab long bed and back in 2017 I installed a P400 6.5L because my old engine blew a head gasket and where I lived nobody wanted to work on it so I just decided to go to Leroy Diesel and buy a P 400 and a friend of mine and I installed it there at my house or his house across the street he was a mechanic I put a lot of things on it from Leroy Diesel. A lot of them you talk about in your videos but anyway to the point, I still have the timing chain on my diesel. I’m debating on whether to tear the front back down on it because I’m leaking water out of the water pump not the pump itself back behind the pump where it bolt up to the block and we know how that is but I’m debating on whether to put that time keeper that Leroy‘s Diesel is selling and get rid of the timing chain and a few other things now like the wiring harness on the upper end across the top of the engine. What are your thoughts on running a gear, drive timing gear on the camshaft on these engines curious I think I’m approaching 100,000 miles now or at least 80,000 on this engine since new.
I would recommend the time keeper set for sure to make a bulletproof timing setup if you can swing the price, but for the farm truck/plow truck/dump run truck and timing chain would work just fine. I plan on running a gear set on every engine that I build as long as they are available.
You are so smart bro! I live in Delta just started following. I have a 1996 6.5 im going to start restoring!
Any time you need help or advice or any work done, don't be scared to ask or bring it to grand junction!
Sure is a nice pump, can’t wait to see what the truck does this coming year🤙
Gold here, thanks for this video.
Is this a special injection pump or a standard pump? Not seeing any performance pumps on the market.

Does advancing the pump help much with power ? And is it hard on stuff?

Man I need to get one of those timing light adapters!
They are pretty pricey but worth every penny!

I don’t think Leroy sells the gears anymore.
Never mind, they started carrying them again. But man that price tag is steep!

It's party time. P, A, R, T. Why because 6.5 or what ever he said
Looks like a P400 casting.
Not really a GM is it?
If you look close enough in the valley you can see the 599 casting. Original '94 599 6.5 block
@@buckwildmotorsports Ok, fair enough.
Its just hard to believe these tender 6.5s can stand up to this kind of abuse.
