I have used one for five years. They work well. The ring is the limiting factor concerning the size of the wood you can split. I cracked the top ring on mine and it still works just fine. In short, I would buy it again and strongly recommend the product.
One big fat caveat. I do not heat with wood. I have a casual fire almost every night for six months of the year and use about 7 or 8 pieces of firewood of different thicknesses per fire. Hope this helps.

I bought one after hitting my fingers a glancing blow for the second time. Lots of blood but luckily no permanent damage. The kindling cracker is recommended. It comes in 2 sizes and I would suggest a 3lb lump hammer for the smaller size and 5lb lump hammer for the larger sized logs. I still on occasion use an axe to create kindling but always use a log turner to hold the target log now.

I was gonna ask if you have to wear safety glasses on top of your head but I see you can also put them over your eyes and it still works.👀
