you guys are old! Then again, I'm 43 and I was introduced to this song 2 months ago from my co-worker. He taught me the 3 parts to the song for both Chantays and the Ventures version. I still prefer the Chantays version.
I saw the Chantays over 10 years ago at Woodbridge Shopping Center in Irvine CA. I don't know they were the original musicians. But they looked the part. (Age wise)
It's very good but it would've been better with the electric piano as that's what made it unique & set it apart from other surf instrumentals of the day.
The original drummer, who's on the 1963 LW vid is Bob Welch, who is my dads wifes 1st husband. He's a big guy, and his son my step bro who is the same age as me is also. 6'4" 250 and cut. Still, at age 53. I''m 5'11" and butt, as in I need to workout more.
Is Bob still alive? Are ANY of them still alive? I remember this song vividly. I am 70 now. I was in a garage band when it came out. We played it on gigs!!!
@@bradentonguy50 I'm sure Bob Spiccard the singer is, and haven't heard that Bob Welch is gone but my step mom and my dad don't really talk about him, so I'm not sure about him. I had a pressure washing business from 1989-2000 and Bob Spiccard and another guy "Reid" serviced and sold pressure washers at a place in Santa Ana, but they don't have that place anymore.
of course the original members were better since it has live drum and keyboard for support. It's also good to hear a retake of the original by the original. I liked this version as well.
Best rendition ever, and I was there when this first aired on the radio in 1963 :---))))
Dave can you believe I was only 13 y/o. I remember this on the radio too.

Great song as it is mean to be played.. Blistering loud outside on a sunny CA day!Rock on good people!
I don't know if Warren Waters is included in this version. But he was the original bass player. He was also my 6th grade teacher 🤠

Being a Fender Stratocaster fan, I'm sure their guitars are just as original as they are.
Toro and I won third place at the E Clampus Vitus Howling with this song. "ECV, No Known Cure".
Hope there's more in the pipeline.😎
just popped this to my old surf bros to wake them up. used to play this surfing in eleuthra bahamas burn n boogie dudes
Fuckin badass!
thank you!!! Rock on!!!
love it lots of raw energy.
Technically songs have someone singing lyrics. That is why they are called songs.
The extended version-about 10'6 and forty pound wet.
I learned to play this on a Murph guitar-was green.
These guys went from dorks in '63 on Lawrence Welk to cool by 2010. Good move.
You will always be a dork.
@@eggsmann594 Yeah, well Fuck Off. And keep fucking off until I give you permission to stop fucking off, you total fuck off.
OMG this song is so good!
Was Gil Orr in this video?

@@cowboysfan782008 Thanks. Bygone era.
Файно шпарять!))))
Only one chantays ever,kev uk
There are 4 guitars, not 3 (as on Lawrence Welk), no choreography, and no Bob Martian on keyboard. The Welk version sounds better.

Do you know why the Welk version sounds better? Because they were not playing it live.
COWABUNGA!
I think the dude in the shirt with the red flowers was high. Played bad, high notes were horrible.
Lets see you do it and no he was not missing notes
