Good explanation Roy. It’s a pity there are some trying to deceive people out there. But I get the place they all have. Personally I don’t like triplets but you look at the work that must be involved in making one, it must have some value.
Doublets can be difficult if you cant see the back or sides but sometimes if the crystal is clear enough a loupe can show the glue backing through the face. Triplets are always pretty easy because the dome is not made of opal and instead you'll see a magnified projection of the opal below. You can cast shadows or angle the lighting to show a clear top.
Doublets have certainly grown on me over time. Some material really thrives thanks to the ability to doublet it and it really is worth the effort. Triplets... still not my thing as well.
That was a really good video for people that are starting out and unaware. Good job. 👍
Thanks. Hopefully it'll pop up when people google the question.
THANK YOU ROY GREAT ADVICE.
No worries at all. Good to get different perspectives out there.
Thanx for sharing your expertise to us new bees.
No worries at all Judith. Anything I can do to help people avoid getting tricked.
Thanks Roys
No worries hope I helped.

Yeah im surprised people make triplets because the gluing would not be fun and the sale value ain't the best.
I've got a doublet monarch opal. It's incredibly beautiful.
You can certainly get spectacular doublets out there.
This is super helpful!
No worries at all. I know the video has saved a few from getting caught out already so pretty happy with this one.
Any way to tell which it is when the opal has been set in a piece of jewelry and you can’t see the back?

Nothing better than learning (coming from someone that spent almost a decade at uni and came out with a PhD 🤣).
That really is a nice Boulder opal!
Yeah I remember cutting this one. Pretty sure it was here: ruclips.net/video/FWDXrWeQ8DY/видео.html
Thank you. Very informative. I love Opals✌❤
No worries Karen. Hard to not love opals. Such an incredible stone.
Nice gloves Roy! 🤣
I recorded twice but first without gloves left to many annoying fingerprints. 🤣
Fungsi doublet untuk apa??
Maaf semoga google translate akurat.
Doublet memperkuat batu tipis dan juga menonjolkan warna yang lebih cerah pada opal kristal
@@RoysRocks ok.thanks
