  • Sit and knit with me for a few minutes on my knitting machine. Hopefully you're finding some quiet time during the holidays to do some things that bring you peace and joy. Right now I'm working on a fair isle yoke sweater called the Stoodley Jumper, designed by Nic Corrigan at Whitehall Studio (www.whitehalls...) and knitting it in JC Rennie Supersoft on a Singer SK360 knitting machine. In the new year, I'll share all the details about how I knit this project and all the lessons learned (we have so many dropped stitches to talk about).
Happy holidays and see you in the new year!

My husband bought me this machine before we were married because I had hand knitted a sweater for him. I knitted a few items for him with it, which he has treasured. I have not used it for many years now but you have reminded me that it's time to bring it out and create new things for the grand babies. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Congratulations on learning so much on the knitting machine. The Stoodley was my first knitting machine pattern and course. You will learn so much about using the punchcard, using your ribber(if you choose to) and doing short row shaping. The JC Rennie is a beautiful yarn to knit with and is amazing after you wash it. After knitting this one, you will be ready to knit almost anything - at least that is how I felt. Marie’s fairisle patterns are also amazing, as well as all of Nic’s other patterns. One thought - I usually rewind my JC Rennie balls into cakes - it feeds more consistently. Looking forward to see your finished sweater!

Oh, I also put the little yarn cake into a yarn bowl so it doesn’t escape….

That is such a great idea about rewinding the balls into cakes, thanks Carrie! Yes, I’ve been a bit concerned about mixing the greasy cones with the knitting yarn balls, but we will see how it turns out! And yes, I’m really enjoying the process of learning to use this machine together with Nic’s instructions and design. I really want to knit more projects like this in the new year! Thanks for watching

Really Cool! I really want one now, I'm pretty new to fiber arts. I see a lotta really simple clothing patterns are like rectangle based. I'm hoping I can make some fabric in rectangles with it and then just sew together the rectangles into clothes. There are very cute dresses and shits that are just a rectangle its cool. I'll branch out eventually, don't even have a machine yet but fairly certain I can manage a rectangle lol with just one color. hopefully get into color work later looks beautiful!

Thanks for this video. My mom used to knit on such a machine when I was a child. Lovely memories!

Congrats! The Stoodley was my first FO on my machine last year. I had such a hard time rehanging the stitches for the yoke but I eventually got through it. It's such a fun project and Nic's Machine Knit Community is so wonderful and welcoming.

I loved my Singer 360 but the kitten peed on it and it rusted. I have a lovely 700 now.
I also love that you are using a Brother cast on comb to weight the cloth.
    Thanks for the knitting footage.
    Merry Christmas!

I've wanted a knitting machine for ages! I did end up ordering a couple of cheap circular machines at the last minute to make some beanies and earbands for the grandkids. So many dropped stitches...but after watching you with your CSM, I realize that the cost of the machine doesn't always mean no drops. Back to the knitting bed...I love the sound it makes! I want to have one and sit and just knit back and forth forever! I could make Rapunzel-ish knitting "ropes" - haha! It reminds me of when I got my first serger. All I wanted to do was sit and serge long strips of fabric together! I think I have some type of sensory something that needs fulfilling - am I on a spectrum? I'm way old, so at this point it's not important. I do know that for any of the crafts I do, I'm in it for the process and not necessarily the product because I'm not good at finishing - because, SQUIRRELS!! But my word for 2023 is FINISH. I want to finish as many languishing projects as I can. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I totally hear you on the sensory satisfaction of crafts… I get that with serging too and I think all of the crafts provide that kind of sensory play that we need and crave. Weaving does that for me too. The feel of throwing the shuttle and beating. It’s just fun and feels good! But going back to your circular machines and dropped stitches, I experienced that too using my friend’s Addi circular machine. Now that I know what I know, I’d like to go back and try the plastic machine again. I think the dropped stitches have to do with inadequate downward pressure on the fabric. So just holding the fabric down or adding weights should theoretically help! Happy new year to you too!
