      @@UncleJessy I think the best way to get different pieces of chain mail to link up is to run either string or wire to make the patches like knitting.

      @@PghArch I had similar struggles, ended up cleaning my resin printer throughoutly and making custom supports and since then it's been a flawless breeze! 1h20 on my own Phenom

      @@WillowCreative printed this today, full print on Mono X. My third day printing and it came out great! Just one row of fused rings on an edge. So satisfying! Thanks!

    I printed this with Elegoo ABS-like and it's pretty strong as well!
    And I just removed them with my hand by 'scratching' it off

    I wonder if you could zigzag the sheet back and forth and print a strip many times the length of the build plate (printing multiple layers connected to the precious lawyer on alternating sides).

    That was maddening watching the failed prints. But so worth the pay off at the end. That is insane!!!!!!

    I would love to see other chainmaille weaves 3d printed. Might have play around with modeling them. I hand make chainmaille jewelry.

    i made a complete mail vest with metal wire. i had to make each ring and knit them together took me about a year to make. i did make some chainmail with filament. but not with printing. i used an old role of pla and converted them into rings. i have done some on resin as an experiment. but still prefer the real metal mail. but awesome video. all i need to do now is the rest of the mail for the vest. i need to buy an English wheel so i can start making more armour. :)

    Haven't been able to get a 3d printer yet but I'm curious how you'd paint the chain. I would worry they would stick together or something.

    Well, that's awesome.
    I wonder if the file could be modified to make scale maille (basically change all the rings in one direction to scales and leave the rings in the other direction as is). Would probably require a lot of tweaking, though. :/

      @@WillowCreative it would be nice to make a shirt you can wear in one piece. I imagine designing the shirt for printing and removing supports would be a challenge.

    Amazing!
    Jessy, do you happen to have a contact at Elegoo by chance? My less than 24hr old Neptune 2 (thanks for that heads up btw!) ran it's hotend up to 320C and tried to burn my house down. I reached out to their support email but want to keep extra options open for contacting them.

      Wowza that’s crazy. Yeah email via support tends to work best. Glad to hear you were monitoring it. They are usually pretty quick to get back and hopefully by Monday. Alternatively you can hit up on Facebook or Twitter

      It is the weekend, and it's not like it's my only printer...so no worries waiting a bit. Just discouraging and disappointing.

    This would be an amazing replacement to manually twisting wire/linking them manually.. But I doubt they'd hold up top the abuse of being arm mail.
    Prob more fitting for mail details over foam/prints though.

      Yeah I’d like to play around with that more for sure. I think a flexible buildplate to make it easier to print in place will make the process go smoother…. Potentially 🤣

      the octopus is doable. I've gotten a few to work out. The biggest concern is to make sure they are thoroughly washed/cleaned or you have problems during the cure stage.

      a lot of FDM filament absorbs water, So I'm guessing this would not be a good idea

    A tip: if you want the rings to look more masculine/modern then use square shaped wire instead of the standard round wire :).
    I make chainmail, I'd much rather make it by hand then print it as making that piece you printed out only takes around 7 hours and costs like $25canadian in jumpings(in any colour via anodized aluminum) and will last a lifetime. The only thing to master is getting the tension correct when working with the pliers.
    Im totally gonna try this out sometime though, it would be awesome for prototyping or samples for a customer.

    You have a series of links called a chain. Or you have a sheet of chains linked together called Mail. It is literally and physically impossible to have “chain mail.” 😌# themoreyouknow.
