i remember it so vividly... i was sure i had discovered some deeper meaning in this song! and made it a point to remember as soon as i had 'sobered' from my lsd trip. but alas. i dont recall. still search the song; perhaps i dont understand.

I really wanted to enjoy this - don't start a Series of Dreams talk by murdering Oh Mercy. "Most Of the Time," "Shooting Star," "Ring Them Bells..." Come on man!?!

Shooting Star is the exact same tune as Ring Them Bells, and is nowhere near as good. Should have been cut.

I'd say that the Oh Mercy album was one of Dylan's best
I don't think this guy understands the album or Bob Dylan that well
Most of the time is a great song
    Political world is awesome
Shooting star is a great song
and Man in a long black coat is an exceptional song as well
What good am I is also a good song
This guy doing the presentation only touches on the actual music of the album for a couple of seconds which is not nearly enough time to explain the music in each song. He only makes a broad statement about the music applying it to the whole album as if every song is the same. (They are not, they are very different) . To say that "Series of Dreams" of dreams is the most out standing song of the Oh Mercy group, "which isn't saying much" ether means that he hasn't listened to that album enough or that he is focused on the lyrics. The lyrics don't make the song great. It is the combination of the music and lyrics that make a song. with out good music you only have a poem with racket in the back ground. The music is there to support the lyrics and vise versa. I think that Oh Mercy was excellent because the music in that album does not distract the listener from the lyrics but does an exceptional job in supporting the lyrics better than most other albums he has done for the exception of Time Out of Mind (which is probably his 2nd or 1st best album)

_"A Series of Dreams"_ is a magic, magic song
Below is listed 5 other brilliant songs of Dylan's _worst_ decade; as you put it. Yet they constitute songs so good most artist's entire careers can't match the brilliance of these songs. And yes, l include his singing. Most good singers can sing good but most can't sing as well as Dylan.
    "Every Grain of Sand"
    "Jokerman"
    "Brownsville Girl"
    "Dignity"
"The Man in the Long Black Coat "

I disagree that it is a spiritual song but rather one that places the world of dreams as equal to, or even more significant than, the waking world of action. May be seen to be honoring subjective imaginative experience as greater than the material world

    Yikes!
    Who is this guy?
I have this song set as my alarm so I hear it everyday- several times...He misquoted the lyrics! I just read the lyrics to be sure I had been hearing them correctly-(it is Bob after all)
My conviction about Dylan is that there are no definitive interpretations of any one Dylan song. We are all coming to the song from where we are in the moment. Next year new insights arise from our current lives. The words are as alive as we are- “...he not busy being born...” etc

..."We are all coming to the song from where we are in the moment. Next year new insights arise from our current lives. The words are as alive as we are- “...he not busy being born...” etc...."
Yep, that's how those records and fragments my brain clings to at any given moment tend to work for me..
      Keep on doing ohmercy!
      Health and balance
PS - As for allegedly genius "record producer Daniel Lanois" directing Dylan to sing "Series of Dreams" as though the entire song were the bridge, I am re-mind-ed of our great Bronx Sage Yogi Berra, who surely said at some dis-jointed point in time: "When you come to a fork in the road..TAKE IT!"

I think Bob probably feels like I do: Jesus would turn over in his grave if he saw the monstrous religions that were started in his name. By his reported actions and words, Jesus would want nothing to do with Christianity. Ironic, don't you think?

@@martinhasson4942 Yeah sure, but if Jesus could see how his own story ended in the Mediterranean sun nailed to a cross in a country overrun by Pagan Romans whose Emperor acted like he was God, would he have wanted to be any part of his own life? After all the megillahs of every doctrinal faith and canon is closed, our Messiah's visit with messages from Dear Ol' Dad up there in heavens is his very own Series of Dreams? Our Maker does indeed sing it like uber producer Daniel Lanois directed: He sings it whole-listically as though it were all a bridge....That too, not nearly comforting enough. Most parents aspire, perspire and sacrifice in ways no eternal God can imagine, if our shorthand taking scribes got dem Sacred Scriptures straight....

"Best song in the Oh Mercy group, which is not saying that much". I have heard a great many fools in my life, but never such a fool as this.

I've suffered through worse. Every time a Duopoly elected or selected leader opens their Pay2Play mouth to privilege this or that Private Interest over our Public Interest, that is when the level of suffering gets ratcheted up way more than this ol' parlor game\pasttime.
