I’ve been watching this video for like 6 years. Everytime I forget how to use my vacuum, lol. Really so very helpful and I’ve got the whole Kirby package with all the bells and whistles...I’ve yet to find a vacuum that does as much as this one.
This was soooooooooo helpful!!!! I borrowed my mom's Kirby to shampoo my couch and I had no idea where to begin 🤯 I think we have a newer model because a lot of the attachments look *slightly* different but the function is exactly the same!!! Gonna show my mom when I take this back because I know she's *never* used this Kirby to it's full capacity 😅 THANK YOU!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! I bought my vacuum a few months ago but have only used it as an upright vacuum. An emergency came up and I knew it HAD to be shampooed. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You have been a lifesaver!!! :)
I had a Dachshund growing up 😁. I just purchased a Kirby Gen 5 with a bunch of attachments for $20 and the lady delivered it to me and had a power convertor plug-in in her vehicle to show me it worked. My mother had bought one years ago and paid $400 brand new I think it was earlier than this one but it was self-propelled and had the attachments which I think she never used because she had leather furniture. I am going to polish this one and clean it and bring it back to like-new condition and probably use it for years. There is a 90-year-old vision impaired lady who uses a walker who lives down the hall from me in the senior apartments we live in and her poodle made a boo boo on the carpet so I'm going to clean it for her with the shampoo part. Thank God for this video and God bless everyone in Jesus most high name, amen. 🕊️😇❤️☝️✝️👏👋🤝👍🇺🇲
Thank you soooo much for this great tutorial. You explained everything so clearly,... even better then the man that sold me mine. (its my second one, I love my Kirby) please keep doing these, you are so easy to follow. thanks again. Marlene
Kirby rocks. I remember when I was a kid and Kirby came to our house for a demonstration. I was surprised to see how dirty our carpet was. Even at 7 years old I knew Kirby was an amazing machine. I never liked having carpet in my home after that. Because u never know what kind of filth lies beneath ur carpet. It looks like Kirby hasn't changed any from those 40 years ago.
Best instructions!! I kept watching the DVD that comes with the Kirby and it just wasn't clicking in my head! You're wonderful! I wish you had Kirby videos for ALL the Kirby options!! Thank you!!!
You explained each step perfectly. I inherited my mom's Kirby and all the attachments, but didn't see the sales pitch and demonstration s, etc. Now I know how to properly shampoo my couch! Thanks!
I appreciate your taking the time to show us how to use a Kirby on our upholstery BUT it would have been nice to see your results! Maybe only do the one cushion so we can clearly see before and after results side by side.
It was a little misleading to see him shampoo the middle cushion, vacuuming the end cushion. Then kneeling in front of the middle cushion so you couldn't see it. No wait, it was VERY misleading.
The Kirby shampoo system is a complement to the vacuum. The vacuum will get the dust out of the cushions by using the Kirby as a canister vacuum (I recommend using the optional zip brush on the end of the hose) or by using the portable handle and turning the brush roll to off (red arrows lined up). See our video on our channel on using the attachments, we show both methods. The shampoo is designed to get soil that vacuums don't, like stains and odor. So vacuum, then shampoo and you will be fine.
Thank you for the great instructions on using the attachments---haven't used mine for 3 years and was great to have this video as a reminder on what to do.
Assuming you are using the Kirby Shampoo (It's a dry foam shampoo and other brands will not foam) and you have the screen on the front of the spray gun as is in the video and you added the correct amount of shampoo ( a little extra wont hurt), the only thing I can think of is the adjustment knob (trigger) is set too far in. Try twisting the trigger counter clockwise and see if that helps. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
As with most shampooers, the Kirby will get the carpet wet, However, very little moisture remains compared to other types. To pick up moisture you use the shampoo system with the tank in the off position. It will not work as a wet/dry vac though. The carpet will dry in less time than the steam vac method, but you DO NOT use the hose to pick up water. You could damage the Kirby and/or even risk electrical shock.
If something is not attached to the front of the Kirby properly it will not run, also is true for the exhaust. Make sure that everything is attached properly. That should get it working for you.
Super helpful. Needed to clean the car seats. I didn't have the attachments setup properly I've watched other videos by this fella. And sure enough.....this one gets right to it. Accurate...done. thank you 😊💓
Thank you for this video on how to use the kirby to vacuum the upholstery in my home or car. I got it but was not demonstrated on how to use it for those applications. Now I know, very well explained and demonstrated.
Thanks for posting your video. I cleaned my car and it looks great. Wasn't sure how to use the attachments, but your video made it look real easy. Thanks again.
For myself I do use the Zip Brush to scrub with however it's not recommended by Kirby because there is a chance moisture to get thru the fan and into the bag. The fan can warp from the moisture and any dirt residue in the fan case and/or Fill Tube (inside the bag system) could turn to mud and cake inside causing loss of airflow. For this reason I only show the recommended way by the Kirby Company.
I've always had better luck with the Kirby shampoo on upholstery than carpet, but I've also noticed the Allergen shampoo seems to work better than the regular. I love the zip brush too, I've only got the older chrome one and it SCREAMS compared to yours.
Thank you Jonathan, however I do say to "Vacuum After it's dry" and what tools to use at 8:34 in the video time. It's an important step so thanks you pointing it our though!
Hi I am so HAPPY that I watched this video, literally never knew about the canister feature!!!!! I can now clean my stairs without lugging the heavy base up and down!! What I want to know is how do I easily shampoo my stairs, I have about 12 of them, in canister mode if that is possible. I have the Avalir Kirby model 293014. Thanks.
Hi great tutorial!! However, because I have spent so much money and in the thousands for my machine I dont feel like we should have to put any elbow grease into cleaning the unit by scrubbing by hand. Something Kirby may want to rethink.
Oh no! A simple rinse-off! My day is ruined, I didn't sign up for this!!! Perhaps you should've spent a few more thousands on a maid / cleaning service. I don't understand people that complain about a tiny bit of maintenance / cleanup on such a well-engineered, versatile, high-quality device that'll last decades and look after you if you look after it - 2 minutes cleanup after 30-90 of workhorse wizardry that saves you so much more time and energy, and people gotta gripe for some reason.
Hottest from the tap (sink) I found to work best. Please do not use "boiling hot" water. I found on my cream colored plush carpeting in living room that (my water heater temp is around 125°F-130°F) it does get very hot, and works BEST removing the coffee & soda stainsI tried "warm" water and that warm doesn't remove stains as well VS using the hottest my tap gets.
I own a kirby, but can you please explain, why did you shampoo the middle, but vacuumed the last cushion? The middle one looks dark, is it still wet? I hope this works......
I've had my Kirby for years but just pulled it back out for shampooing my carpet. I decided to try the upholstery cleaner but mine doesn't spray or foam unless I have the canister and spray handle almost pointing directly down (almost upside down) so that the water goes into lid to come out of the foamer or sprayer. Nothing comes out if I hold it horizontal at all. Also it's not a smooth flow, it's more like it splatters the foam everywhere. I thought maybe the container was supposed to have a straw to suck the liquid up but there isn't one. Any advice?
This helped so much with my antique sofas. But, how to do you put all back together. I need to vacuum and I cannot remove the handle. Is there a video??
Yes, that hot southern sun will kill all mold/bacteria. Be sure to vacuum off afterward. Also, spray with Febreeze or something like that when you're done.
Hi thanks for the video, I followed the instructions when prepping the shampoo steps, however no bubbles came out of the gun. Can you help tell me If I did something wrong? Thanks.
The zip brush only works when the hose is attached to the front as a canister. It will not spin when used on the blower. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you! Thanks
I'm not getting much foam. I've adjusted the knob on the trigger in both direction and not getting much foam. It splatters out some soapy water but not any foam.
I Am a female contractor, I do it all, waxing, stripping, cleaning basic and deep cleaning, disinfecting etc, and people hire me to clean offices , car dealers and shops , clinics etc..... (On the side)as my side job, and looking at all these short cuts has helped me out... gets the job done, less the time and force and no messed up back at the end of the night.
it was the middle cushion that you shampooed not the right side you might had shampooed the whole couch but we didn't see it but besides that your demo was precise thank you
Yes, I did do all 3 cushions but for time of the Video it was not shown. The Video was for "how to" purposes and not results thus we did not need a before and after.
You should ALWAYS color test the fabric in an inconspicuous area first but I have never had a problem in the past with microfiber, usually works very well..
Thanks so much for this video!!🙏🙏🙏 My boss bought this vacuum cleaner about 3 months ago, the people only taught me once, that they'll be coming to teach me🙄, till today, I don't see them and my boss is asking me everyday to use it🙄🤔, but I don't know how to use and they didn't give me shampoo 😎, please how should I do, can I use floor detergent or hair Shampoo to clean?🤔🙄 Please help me, thanks so much once again!!🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌✌️✌️👍👍👌
You can use Kirby Shampoo on many different types of fabric and colors. It is recommended that you color test per the directions on the Kirby Shampoo Bottle before using on any fabric firs as we do in this video.

Thank you so much! It's been 10 years since our Kirby guy demonstrated how to clean upholstery!!! This is a great video!

Thank you for this video Vacuums Etc!! "The K instruction manual reads like a rocket setup.."
Just the little tip of misting the fabric first before foam was a huge help thank you!!!
Best instructions!! I kept watching the DVD that comes with the Kirby and it just wasn't clicking in my head! You're wonderful! I wish you had Kirby videos for ALL the Kirby options!! Thank you!!!
This is WAY more helpful than the videos on the Kirby App. Thank you!

@@hrdman2luv he said in the video that the brush he was using to only use it on dry cushions. The middle one was still wet from shampooing.

Wow this is still such a great video, so informative, just got a kirby from my neighbour and had no clue how to use it, this has really been helpful🙂
I just got a used Kirby similar to this one. Thank goodness for these videos! I could never figure this out otherwise. 😅
Hey Guy, thank you for making this video. This was incredibly helpful and well done showing how to use the attachments.
Thanks, David. I didn't know to spray the furniture first before applying the dry foam.
Thank you for this video on how to use the kirby to vacuum the upholstery in my home or car. I got it but was not demonstrated on how to use it for those applications. Now I know, very well explained and demonstrated.

This video might be 9 years old, but still an awesome reference. Good job.
Very informative video. I inherited a Kirby with every attachment ever built, know where it all goes and what does what!
Thanks for posting your video. I cleaned my car and it looks great. Wasn't sure how to use the attachments, but your video made it look real easy. Thanks again.

Hey I was hoping to see the video on using the Kirby to clean the car!!!! Please make one!?
I've always had better luck with the Kirby shampoo on upholstery than carpet, but I've also noticed the Allergen shampoo seems to work better than the regular. I love the zip brush too, I've only got the older chrome one and it SCREAMS compared to yours.
Thank you very much.I actually got it all together but the vacuum is not starting.Do you know why? Great demonstration.
Great explanation of the tools use and process.
Thank you Jonathan, however I do say to "Vacuum After it's dry" and what tools to use at 8:34 in the video time. It's an important step so thanks you pointing it our though!

Can I do this on a pillow top mattress?
Thank You! I would be lost without your videos!
Hi great tutorial!! However, because I have spent so much money and in the thousands for my machine I dont feel like we should have to put any elbow grease into cleaning the unit by scrubbing by hand. Something Kirby may want to rethink.
Great comment I used to think the same 😂

I have the Kirby Sentria and it's been 12 yrs since the salesman demo'd. Will my model work for upholstey?
Thanks for great instructions! Very helpful. One question... should the water be hot?
Kathleen Donohue Only use warm water, not hot.
Hottest from the tap (sink) I found to work best. Please do not use "boiling hot" water. Just saw this tutorial!!! It's well-done and thank you. One question: Is this appropriate for micro-fiber couches?
Use a gentle brush and yes you can shampoo microfiber couches.
Man, you make great videos.
I own a kirby, but can you please explain, why did you shampoo the middle, but vacuumed the last cushion? The middle one looks dark, is it still wet? I hope this works......
For demonstration purposes. It takes 4 hrs at least for drying time. But good point 😊
I've had my Kirby for years but just pulled it back out for shampooing my carpet. This helped so much with my antique sofas. But, how to do you put all back together. I need to vacuum and I cannot remove the handle. Is there a video??
there is a button to press on the unit its difficult to reach but once you get to it its quite simple
Thanks for this video. It's very helpful and informative and easy to understand.
Is it ok to speed up the drying process by taking the furniture and pillows out to the fresh air? Sunrays?
Yes, that hot southern sun will kill all mold/bacteria. Be sure to vacuum off afterward. Also, spray with Febreeze or something like that when you're done.
Dont spray chemical febreeze @@shellyparritt
Hi,would it get rid off the odour and dust in the cusions?
I wish you had showed the one you shampooed after it dried.
You did a good job and thank you for your demonstration I learned something new today . Thank you so much😊
Hi thanks for the video, I followed the instructions when prepping the shampoo steps, however no bubbles came out of the gun. Can you help tell me If I did something wrong? Thanks.
If you need to shampoo an area rug, is it better to use the handheld shampooer or upright carpet shampooer?
Very good video! Thanks for this video. It's very helpful and informative and easy to understand
Do they offer this in smaller size
Can I use another brand of cleaner?
I am using my kirby to paint and having trouble with the way the paint comes out, do i have to use water to dilute the paint and how much. thanks
The zip brush only works when the hose is attached to the front as a canister. It will not spin when used on the blower. Give it a try and let us know how it works for you! Thanks
OOOPS, forgot, I do have the zip brush attachment, the middle of it does not spin all the time. how can I fix that... thank you again... Marlene
Seems like you could just make a lather with the shampoo and work it in.Why use the kirby?
The foam doesn’t dump water into the fabric.
Is it the same to set up on a heritage II or Do I need to do anything different
What an awesome vacuum!
This was very helpful! Thank you!

8 years ago, have they made an attachment so we don’t gotta scrub??
I'm not getting much foam. I've adjusted the knob on the trigger in both direction and not getting much foam. It splatters out some soapy water but not any foam.
I followed this and suds went flying everywhere! What am I doing wrong?
You can adjust the amount of suds on the sprayer just adjusting the lever which is the trigger for the spray gun
Thanks! Awesome instructions!
Great video and I am a Kirby man. Good job
Is it good for car seats
My dad rocks!!
I Am a female contractor, I do it all, waxing, stripping, cleaning basic and deep cleaning, disinfecting etc, and people hire me to clean offices , car dealers and shops , clinics etc..... Adjust the amount of spray; by adjusting the lever, which is also the trigger on your spray gun
So helpful. Thanks!!!
Thank you! You explain so welll! Very helpful videos!
Ummmmmm....and why didn't you use the Kirby zip-brush?
Do they make a smaller size
No they do not.
Thanks for the info
Great Video Thank you!

Kirbys are awesome on mattress cleaning
Awesome! Thank you best instructions out there...
You can use Kirby Shampoo on many different types of fabric and colors. It is recommended that you color test per the directions on the Kirby Shampoo Bottle before using on any fabric firs as we do in this video.
dang it, for 1800.00 i thought i wouldn't have to put any elbow grease into it. kirby should do it all for me!!
do I just let my couch stay wet or how do I dry it up?
Nichole Quinlan after you shampoo it you let it air dry or use a fan then vacuum it after
