There's a bit more to one of those reviews that criticized the control scheme in Alien Resurrection. It's already funny to look back on in hindsight knowing it has become the standard for FPS controls, but the reviewer also said people should just pass on Resurrection and wait for Aliens Colonial Marines (mind you it was originally scheduled for a 2001 release on PS2). Yeah that actually happened.

Fun fact: A hack dropped fairly recently that actually *does* add mouse support to the Super Famicom version of _Clock Tower._ It also adds the exclusive rooms from the PS1 port, but the fact that it works with the mouse is a definite selling port all by itself.

A fun fact I learned from researching the Super Famicon Clock Tower recently: Yes the SNES version doesn't have mouse support, but not because they didn't want to! When Hifumi Kono pitched his idea for the game (a game where you run away from the threat instead of fight it), his peers told him it wouldn't work. Because they figured it wouldn't work they gave him a very small budget and team, and so they had to scrap mouse support and also had to make the mansion significantly smaller. So it makes sense that mouse support would come in the later ports.
Figured you might enjoy that tidbit!

I did some digging for a video I made a while back and came up with Treasures of the Deep (1997) as the first game to use a recognisable twin-stick FPS control scheme **on one controller** while Alien Resurrection was the first game that **defaulted** to the twin-stick control scheme.

I did a double take when you showed Sorcerer's Maze gameplay and it turned out to be Prism Land Story. I played the japanese version many years ago via emulation and I really liked it. Hmm, learning about the mouse support might be the perfect excuse to play it again after so long.

I have one of these and used it when playing Project Horned Owl, Lemmings 3D and Die Hard Trilogy.
In that trilogy, Die Hard 3 even had support for a steering wheel which I think made it more fun to play and quite a bit easier too.

I still get cold sweats and borderline PTSD from the Scissorman chase music in Clock Tower. So many long nights with my brothers taking turns, getting scared, handing out over to my oldest brother and then peeking out in sheer terror from behind my bed sheets, but unable to stop watching... Everyone needs to play this game, mouse or not. Be patient, the opening is a slow burn.

By watching videos like this one I remember how gaming is diverse and sometimes over the top! I mean, if you only pay attention to current big releases it may appear to be a "samy", repetitive industry, which is totally not the case.
