I wanted to do a slight update - but also shortened version - of my old "history of emo on guitar video". I chose to only pick 2 bands per decade, so there's obviously big omissions like American Football, Jawbreaker, The Get Up Kids, etc. If you'd like a more in depth video on emo music, watch this one here ➡ ruclips.net/video/5LSnu69Vc5g/видео.html

Jaw’s theme has such a good groove.
From what movie?
@@greenishshinyhelmet4271 No, the song’s called “Jaws Theme Swimming” played by Brand New off their most famous album Déjà Entendu. If you haven’t already, listen to it
this is such an awesome way to see the evolution of the genre, how its stayed the same and how its changed.
That riff in Parking Lot always makes me melt into a void of liquid emo ice cream
Even though it’s probably their most famous song, still should have picked The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows by brand new. So fun to play and captures all the moods before the breakdowns
It always gets copyright claimed everytime I try to include it in a video. I don't bother anymore, as I know I'll just have to mute that section.
You could not have picked two more perfect songs for the 90s emo section man
great to see some love for "mom jeans" "spanish love songs. " two of my favourite new discovery
Like you said, unfortunately a lot a songs didn't make it to the video, but an honorable mention is Action and Action by Get Up Kids.
Simple but really really catchy.
How do you achieve such a great bass tone? It sounds amazing! Ive seen you use the axe fx. Is it all axe fx with built in cabinets or do you have some third party stuff?
Yeah my bass is pretty straight forward. I have one present I use for my P-bass and one for my Musicman. I use two amps inside the Axe Fx for this. The first one is an SVT style amp - which I use for the main tone - and the other is an Orange style amp - which I use for the low end. Then I just blend the two together, along with the DI signal.
min 3:06?
Oh no. This Addiction was my favourite Alkaline Trio riff. Only to find now that Dag Nasty did that first.
80 emo was the best
i eat emos and scorpios for breakfast
“Donner”? Legit never heard of this brand before
they sell good beginner and a couple of decent intermediate guitars and other equipment. i have their strat clone. it's ok
Dönner are also a kebab chain
They do some pedals as well. They're ok, not bad for the price.
nice strat
@SugarpillCovers What song is at 1:16? Is it still Jimmy Eat The World?
It's Parking Lot by Mineral. I listed each song on the title cards.
@@SugarpillProd thanks! I don't see any title cards around 1:16 btw
@@adimanohar9908 They're at the start of each section - so 0:42 for the 90's section.
@@SugarpillProd whoops, thanks
Bro, you don’t have a band yet?
I've had a band for awhile, haha.
@@SugarpillProd c’mon bro
The first one kind of sounds like iron maiden if you harmonize and add gallops
sugarpill looks so bored playing these riffs lol
Donner sound so good 👍
Jaws Theme slammsss
Last song ?
Nice :)
2008s-2010s emo isn't Asking Alexandria, blessthefall, Escape the Fate???
No that's Metalcore. Totally separate genre, though people tend to get them mixed up for whatever reason.
@@SugarpillProd they are not metalcore, the real metalcore is like trivium, as i lay dying. they are just post hardcore which adds an element of breakdown, and emo develops from post hardcore, for example too My Chemical Romance, Saosin, Alesana, Skylit Drive...
@@auliafebby08 Emo came from punk in the late 80s from bands like Rites Of Spring and Dag Nasty, so way before any of those bands mentioned. You also have the Midwest emo scene of the 90s, with bands like American Football and Cap n' Jazz.
Post-hardcore is also a funny thing, as those bands aren't really post-hardcore either. It started out as the music that came after hardcore punk - so bands like Fugazi or At The Drive In. Bands like Escape The Fate really have little to nothing to do with that scene.
@@SugarpillProd does this mean that emo isn't breakdowns, melodeath riffs, and screamo scream? some bands have it and claim to be "Emo Post Hardcore"???...
@@SugarpillProd yea...and post hardcore came from punk too, post hardcore is punk genre too with experimental music without get rid of punk rock/hardcore punk elements
2010s emo is painfully bad
Nah.
