    Relatability in a world that seems to be “over-filtered” and glamourised is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you 🙏

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад +1

      That ‘filter’ that is placed over social media can be so problematic. Most people don’t live perfect twee lives, yet even though we know this, it can be hard not to let comparisons creep in and make us feel almost inadequate. Many people are sick of the ‘highlight reels’ though, so I’m hopeful we might see a swing towards more realism.

    I forgot to mention I sometimes hear the gentleman next door singing in the kitchen, but I sing in my kitchen sometimes too so they likely hear me!
    Ooh I also forgot that back in October I said I was going to try and do a body re-composition - yeah well that didn't happen ha ha - I actually gained weight by allowing convenience food to creep in when working long hours. Never mind, such is life!

    I am going to give you my two cents from experience. If you do not have a bathroom down stairs I would not take out the bathroom. As you get older the first thing that goes are your knees. I had a friend who became ill a few years ago and had no bedroom or bathroom downstairs. He could not manage the stairs, and after a while he had to go and live with a relative. If you are going to move no problem. I am sorry about the loss of your pet. I guess it is like the loss of a relative or friend it will get better eventually. Have a great weekend. Do not beat yourself up you are doing great.

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад +4

      Yes an estate agent was saying although on the whole downstairs bathrooms are largely unpopular in recent years they have been seen more favourably due to people needing to stay in their homes longer than planned due to the difficulties moving home these days. One of the issues is it’s cold in there without being heated all year round and if I had a bathroom upstairs I would never use the downstairs one (although I would keep a downstairs toilet). Yes grief does get better in time, never really goes away, just gets easier to live with x

    This video actually made me subscribe. Thank you for sharing your views and staying true to yourself. And those are just the thing that also makes you relateable and interesting to hear. Would like that you post more, even when it's not so pretty or nice.
    Also, your story about your puppy Charlie and what he means and how it is hard ... There are a lot of people that don't understand, but it's always so nice to see that there are equaly as many who do understand ... I've lost my dog suddenly when she was 11.5 years, and it broke me to pieces, she was my absolute soul dog, once in a lifetime, and it was in October 22, but I still have so much pain and saddness daily because of it ,,,,

Im sorry for the loss of your furry friend and I can understand your state of sadness - losing friend/family member is never easy and yes thats what dogs are in my opinion!
    *Would be so lovely to hear you saying slightly more about your style, its evolution as well as what is your direction in this matter now post decluttering. What is on your wish list if you have such or generally what items you feel you need or need to upgrade etc - shortly saying and putting it in your words a wardrobe plan... if that makes sense. Lovely to see you back again. Like others have said I’m really sorry for the loss of your dog. I have been through many times and it doesn’t get any easier. I understand your grief very much. As for your house, forgive me for saying but although I’m sure you’re enjoying living there, you’ve never seemed completely settled. I don’t do Instagram so obviously don’t see your content on there. I do enjoy your videos though, not so much the renovations or make up. So please if at all possible keep going on here. Congratulations on your new job I’m sure you’ll be great as you seem to put your heart and soul into all that you do. x

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад +1

      A large part of me not being settled here I believe is because it's not really the house I imagined I would buy in some ways (I didn't want a semi, or a conservatory or a downstairs bathroom but the market got so insane choices became more limited - it was the nicest house I viewed by some way though), and I absolutely did not imagine having to do major renovations as it was 'turn key' when I bought it. That said you have to do the best you can with wherever you find yourself, and there's no guarantee I'd have liked a different house better, but also having a lack of funds has meant I've not really been able to change anything so 'stuck' being unhappy yet unable to make even the simplest of changes.

  • @valeriyatsvetnova6162
    @valeriyatsvetnova6162 6 месяцев назад

    You are such a warm, kind and smart person, Kirsty! So glad I found your channel! Regarding the house updates, similarly to buying clothes, which is often emotional, as opposed to looking for creating a “perfect home”, look into the updates that increase the value of the house the most, you will not regret it in any case!

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  6 месяцев назад

      That’s incredibly kind of you to say, glad to have you here.
      On house things, I have to say I somewhat disagree. The house wasn’t bought as an investment particularly, my decision making was based on if I liked it not if I thought it would make me money. The most cost effective thing to do would be to leave it as is, but it makes me miserable. It’s a real shame because I liked it at viewing and is still the best house I viewed in my then budget by far. It’s just the compromises i made that I thought I’d be ok with, I’m absolutely not. Plus energy costs have rocketed so where the vendors just heated certain areas, it’s not actually very feasible any more. If I had been solely interested in ROI I would have purchased a cheap place to live in in a less desirable area, then another cheap one to rent out. Value increases are subjective as they are often based more on the market conditions at time of sale and renovations rarely provide a good return unless you stay in your home long term. It’s why so many flippers are so horrible - cheap finishes everywhere. I do agree there’s no such thing as a perfect home though, there’s always compromises even at super high budgets.

      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад +1

      It really is, I miss him most days, he really was the sweetest little thing.
      No don’t worry I know what you mean, in some ways the normal things we all struggle with is part of what made RUclips great and a breath of fresh air. It’s a funny one relatability - my income level would likely be unrelatable to some now, either those who earn less or more, or for example one of the things I like to spend on is clothing, yet others perhaps value travel, but ultimately the vast majority of us at all income levels can’t really relate to someone who lives a life with a large income with little constraints on their time. I just got to thinking that someone even earning a 6 figure salary is somewhat more relatable to most than someone not working (in the traditional sense, content creation is most definitely still work) at all.

      Thank you so much for the suggestion, but I don’t want a cellar. Its not cold enough as cold storage either. It’s on ground floor level and would essentially just be a huge storage room off the utility. It would devalue the property as most people in the U.K. wouldn’t want that, it would be really unusual. Hello Kirsty! So nice to see you back! I've really enjoyed your budgeting/no buy content.
    I'm sorry to hear about your pet passing away. I think of pets as part of family. So I wouldn't underestimate the amount of grief that one can have because of them.
    When it comes to the renovation, I think you're doing the right thing by waiting it out. Perhaps, if I were you, I would try to find a cheap effective solution (e.g. a radiator or heater for the bathroom) and make do with what I have until I decide on what to do. However, I'm not a home owner. The good thing about being one is that you can change anything for it to suit your needs better! :) And the great thing about renting is that those kinds of options are sort of discarded, so I have to adapt to what I have now. And that means I have more money to spend on other things and I have the opportunity to find contentment.
    Sending you lots of love and support on your journey!

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! They really are part of the family for sure. The bathroom is an odd one, it is one of the toastiest places in the house when the heating is on, but I don't really want to have the heating on in summer, not least since energy has become so insanely expensive. There are a few things we are going to do shortly, for example there is a ceiling extraction fan (which I never use) and it doesn't have any baffles on so its a bit like having a window cracked open all the time. I'm blocking that up in the coming weeks. Theres also the option of a washable rug to help the floor not being so chilly. I'm big in the camp of doing small alterations until you work out what to do. Hi there, that’s really interesting to hear to be honest. For a while I felt like the only thing I could ever post was around strict budgeting or being ultra frugal (in part because when I didn’t I’d be attacked in the comments for not being ‘frugal enough’, ‘minimalist enough’ or so on) but my intention from now on is to just be completely myself 😊 Do I like being sensible with money and making decisions my future self will thank me for? Yes. Do I like spending money on quality items that matter to me and enrich my life (things that sometimes are not remotely considered frugal)? Also yes. It’s a balance for me. So hopefully that will be super relatable and offer a balance in the future. Thanks so much for watching x

      @@KirstyKirby Wow! I didn’t know people could be like that… lol people surprise me every day! The opinions of people who don’t have what I want or aren’t at where I want to be are irrelevant. These people are generating what? 10 cents per view? Fuck the 10 cent opinions! Let them come out of the woodworks so you know exactly who to block and delete (I block and delete the first time someone shows me who they are so I don’t accidentally later invest energy in them or worse yet, consider their opinion because I tend to forget people’s trespasses).
      I really relate to your difficulties of decluttering clothes from your younger days/previous “identities” (especially when some of the fashions are coming back!). I also resonate with the drawbacks in your current home and how the decision to stay or go affects what your current quality of life through renovation decisions.
      You’re very reflective and are one of the rare few not only on the Internet but in life to speak the truth that only those who lived the experience can, most currently, with the reality of taking a lower paying job in hopes of doing more content at the side.

    I can totally relate to losing a pet. I lost the youngest of my two yorkies last week. She was fine in the morning when I left for work. My son left for work at 11.30 am, I came home a little after 5pm, she was so sick, vomiting, anxious... I have been beating myself up for going to the gym before coming home, and to pick up pizzas, as it was my sons Birthday. That night/early hours of the next day, we had to have an emergency euthanasia at the Vet Hospital in Oslo. It was horrible, the little dog went into medical chock. So sorry about your dog. Hello again, I had a house for 7 years with this really odd room at the front of the house that I never knew what to do with it. I did heaps of work on the rest of the house but this one room did my head in, it was way too big, had too many windows and was just odd. Previous owner had it as a painting room for her art. I ended up leaving it as a random TV room, kids play room etc, always thought I was wasting the space and the outlook it had, but I could never decide what to do with it. I sold the house 4 years ago so no longer a problem, I have wondered what the new owners did with the room.

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад

      There are a few options for that space - it could be a multi function space - an office/garden room/gym whatever really, but I like things to flow if that makes sense. If I did some bigger building work I could create a large kitchen/living space which estate agents think would add a lot of value, but obviously that's not free in cash or stress. Will see, I'll focus on getting some of the other rooms right first.

    I love area where i live but not my house. My house needs doing up but it will not add value. May have to move area. I think you should move, maybe downsize to a newer 2 bed? Or you could put a bathroom upstairs in smaller room and make the kitchen anothet bedroom with just a toilet?

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад

      There’s already a toilet upstairs (I wouldn’t have even considered purchasing the property if there wasn’t) I just don’t like the shower and bath being downstairs. I’m not too bothered about having a downstairs ‘bedroom’ as I would never use it plus it seems crazy to me to pay for square footage you shut the door on and don’t utilise. Seems daft that so many of us renovate and decorate houses for what a fictional future buyer might want really.
      I don’t really like new houses lol, I’ve just moved from one. New estates are very noisy as they are built with young children in mind. The room sizes are very small with low ceilings which I actively disliked. A two bed new build would be so incredibly small downstairs as they are built small mainly to keep costs low as they are typically for first time buyers with small budgets and no children, I know some people like that, but it’s really not for me. If I moved I’d be looking to upgrade, either in area, size or type of house rather than downsize particularly. The reason that is an option to consider carefully is more to do with that type of property being probably 100k more in cost.

      @KirstyKirby  6 месяцев назад

      Hi there, so glad you enjoyed the content.
      It’s not so much the cold that’s the main issue, it’s toasty in there when the heating is on, but cold when it isn’t and loses the heat quickly. I could put additional on demand blown air heating in, underfloor would potentially be very expensive though as I find gas is still cheaper than electric for heating. I have friends that have underfloor heating in their kitchen and never use it as it’s so costly to run. I just hate that it’s downstairs and not near the bedrooms. It’s not really miserable as such - most people gasp when they see it as it’s also huge which sounds nice but it’s such a waste of space.

      Thank you for the kind offer, but honestly there isn’t a way for a bathroom to be placed without either a horrible squished teeny ensuite style situation (which I really don’t want, I like period property in a large part due to the proportions) or to use the smallest bedroom. A family member is an architect and my family in general have been in property for a number of years so it’s not for a lack of knowledge necessarily. Not even particularly about money, although that has to be a consideration in a falling market, as multiple estate agents feel if I made this house a 2 bedroom with a huge kitchen/living space onto the incredibly private garden they estimated an increase in value of around 50k (and it wouldn’t cost that much to do even with nice finishes). Good point when looking at other properties, you don’t really think of the cost because it’s not actually a real consideration.

    • @KirstyKirby
      @KirstyKirby  10 месяцев назад +1

      Oh as I say in the video, no immediate plans for that reason, my initial priority is saving and also living - three years of being locked in our houses, then essentially being locked in due to no money took it’s toll on my mental health. I don’t think I’ll wait a full three years before making a decision one way or another though, it’s quite a long time to be unhappy, we live today and live in the here and now, and the interest rates are highly unlikely to return to the lows we’ve seen in the last decade or so.(I also suffer with raynauds which is a problem every time I shower/bath in the winter in the bathroom as it is) They will drop if inflationary pressure allows but not to the 1 & 2% so many have gotten used to (one of the reasons I didn’t over extend when purchasing, I was confident rates would rise) I’m more of a let’s see how things pan out whilst living than a ‘I’ll wait three years to see how many more crazy decisions the government make’ if you see what i mean, and I’ve had valuers suggest the improvements I could undertake would add in the region of 50k to the property. In fact it’s not so much interest rates that I’m concerned with more that the market hasn’t yet fully responded to them in terms of house prices, it can take months for the raising of interest rates to filter through to the market-also there are so many pressures that may mean that the market doesn’t respond how it has in the past - not remotely enough housing for the current population, huge net migration figures, low unemployment levels, missing of new home building targets for years, lack of social housing, all things that could keep prices propped up (or falling less than predicted) in wake of interest rates. The type of house I would look to move to is probably 100k more than this one so it’s not all that straightforward to simply move, although a larger mortgage would be possible.

      @@KirstyKirbyall this is well thought out and sensible. My instincts mirrored yours on a slightly different timeline. There is so much risk still in the air and decisions still being made as you mentioned. So I balance here and now with self care for mental health with instincts about the future as it happens. I am in the US and there has been so much going on at here too similar to what you alluded to. Our culture here has been decimated and so much of our population short circuited in therapy with meds.
