Yes, they changed the cars from V8 to V6 hybrid and the only team that managed to get it right from the get go was Mercedes AMG Petronas. Hence Vettel couldn't really do anything. Hence Hamilton got free championships for four years with Mercedes cars sometimes 40 seconds ahead of everyone else by the end of the race.(This is why a lot of people give Hamilton a hard time, including myself) It took other teams 4-5 years to catch up. That's why you're seeing for the first time since V6 hybrid era that another team other than Mercedes is close to winning this year. Red Bull. In Australia Vettel was hated by all F1 fans, it wasn't until he won his 2nd or 3rd that people (myself included) thought "hmm, maybe Vettel is just a far better driver than Webber"

Man I wish everyone raced for themselves like this. Team score wont change if drivers switch position, they should just be extra careful not to go as far to take each other out or cause 1 to fuck up.
The rest of Vettel’s career was extremely humbling for him. In the end he became a much better human being overall, not that he was bad before but I’m sure he’s grateful for the things he learned post Red Bull or even 2014 when Danny Ric trounced him and Seb had a fair amount of bad luck.
It depends on the circumstances. If one of them is in contention for the WC it's one thing, but it was the second race of the season, Vettel was ahead in the drivers championship after the first race and was the defending champion for the third year in a row. Being the faster car, there was no reason for this kind of team order. They finished the race P1 and P2, so Red Bull got the best outcome in terms of points and the faster driver won. That is what racing is about, not "drive like a convoy until the end of the race".
Vettel had properly internalized the mindset of an F1 champion. Are you there to win races or to finish second? After he won his first world title in 2010 he could do pretty much anything he wanted and be forgiven. Bottas suffered the same fate as Webber, although his path was even harder, considering that Hamilton was already a triple champion when he joined Mercedes.
This should not only be recommended but it should be enforced by the FIA, just because they are on the same team doesn't mean both have the same goal, to win, and if they have the same goal they have to battle for it
