    If Opel had put as much effort into rustproofing the car as they did into attaching the door skins, you would be much further along, LOL. A few tips on your new sandblast cabinet (I own one just like what you have). 1) Get lots of the plastic sheets that protect the cover. They get abraded quickly and no way to bring them back to clarity. They aren't that expensive. 2) Replace the blast nozzle with a ceramic nozzle. The steel nozzles do not last for any period of time. 3) If you use the cabinet indoors, attach a shop vac to the cabinet to remove dust. 4) Your blast media degrades and gets "polluted" over time so plan on replacing it periodically.
    The car is really starting to look good.

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  Месяц назад

      Thanks for the comment. Yes. the door skin was very well welded in...therefore the Plan C tried to avoid another skin removal...
      About the cabinet: 1: with the package there were 5 pcs of those plastic covers. But I have plans to change the screen to much stronger material...it is wobbly and does not even seal the edges... 2: it does have ceramic nozzle
      3: yes, I will..But this short blast was ok to do outside. 4: good tip, I will change media periodically...

    I love the way you do try and error and the witty camera filming. One way to solve complex rust: Buy a large barrel and fill it with molasses and water, about 1:1.
    Let the body part in for a few days, ALL rust is gone, 100% sure. I tried it, it works great, and it's very environmentally friendly too.

      @@GT1900garage No joke! My son and I had restored a 1978 Buick LeSabre and a 1977 Pontiac TransAm 6.6. We did as much as possible with
      molasses with great results; even Nuts and Bolts with heavy rust are black and shiny and like new after a bath. What is left can easily be dumped
      into the meadow as fertilizer; it is non-toxic.

After Plan C we discover again this Opel is a gift that just keeps on giving. LOL. The lead solder you removed at 9:35, done at the factory? The crate at 23:10 contains the rebuilt engine. YES? Well done mate, i had to d oa very similar repair on the tops (and bottoms) of some RA28 Celica doors, and it had similar reverse curve, its bloody tricky to make that section with simple tools.

    • @GT1900garage

      Yes, reverse curve is really challenging...I have to say that this small piece of metal was my best fabrication so far for this project.. I was pretty sure that the door skin panel would be warped as hell when full welded..I got it spot on even without any filler...

      @GT1900garage  28 дней назад

      Sorry, missed this comment. The grey is 2K epoxy primer for heavy machinery. Super strong, but also flexible, so it wont crack even if the car body is flexing...red paint is just quality rust stop paint that can be welded through. I use it for the overlapping panel seams, that need to be plug welded. Seams are still protected with epoxy when all the welds are done..

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  Месяц назад +1

      Actually not, the fixing the upper part of the door panel was as test case for fixing the door skin on the spot. I need to change the bottom part of the door skin, but that is easy since there I have access to the other side. So I can beat it during welding..also I do have access to lay decent layer of 2K epoxy inside...

    Hi from Oslo, what clock / counter is that, where to get ? Why do you use two different coatings, the brown and the white ? Keep up the god work, very helpfull, i am sitting in the same boat with a my Land Cruiser HJ 60. Lots of rust and bad old repairs.

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  Месяц назад

      Hello to Oslo.. The counter is actually my brother did to me for the project...interested?
      The light grey is 2K industrial epoxly, very strong and flexible paint. The red one is weld through rust agent paint, good for surfaces that are in closed contact - and weldable...It does not burn like epoxy does..

    • @4RnrMatt
      @4RnrMatt Месяц назад

      @@GT1900garage Yes, interested. When i was a apprentice in 86 to 89 we used a brown very rought "color" on every steel construktion we build as base or simple transport color, my sand blasting guy Jarle has it sometimes to, but the painter we use to work with at home says everything 1k, primer, spray, base sucks water. And than i think you used only the 2K epoxy in the beginning of your series in all the closed areas. Dont want to intrude, only looking for lessons to make my work better., and the Land Cruiser lasting a little bit longer.

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  Месяц назад

      There are as many opinions as there are people. I did use 2k epoxy, but that burned out leavin ash, and other residue between metal. I think it is better to have acid paint between welds and then seal the structure with flexible industrial epoxy. But i am not an expert...just rely on others comments... i will ask about the counter...
