That’s very cool, I’ve listened to a lot of bebop and I hear that all the time on quaver (8th note ) runs. I just didn’t quite realise what they were doing. It’s always sounds like a little cut in the run as it turns, i’ve tried to copy it before but like I say I didn’t quite have the right technique so thanks for that !! I will be trying that later. Have a great day Scott. : Martin
Yeah, it's one of those things when you hear it and it goes by quick it's hard to figure it out. That's how I ended up doing it a video on it. In a private lesson a student asked me what that sound was in my 8th note run.
I love your videos on articulation - I think it's one thing that makes sax really special. Adam Neely recently did a video talking about one-note sax solos and I thought of you, and how important articulation is.
I live in the bay area and I think it was one of my friends Norbert Satchel or Charlie McCarthy that told me that. Thanks for your lesson Scott. They are very helpful.
I'm launching a sax school next month that might be what you are looking for. It will focus on teaching songs, the theory will be there, but it will be woven into the lessons to help you become a better player.
ghosting is when the note is barely there at all, this is similar, but the note is just muted with your tongue and gives it different effect. It can be done in running lines way easier than a ghost note.
Hey! Yet another interesting video! I have a question, what do you use to protect the interior of your bottom lips when you play a lot? I don't use anything but it limits my ability to play during long sessions as I end up bitting myself more than what is comfortable.
@@ScottPaddock it was a faulty reed. The reed was imbalanced and not laying flat evenly on the mouthpiece. I've been playing sax for 5 years and this is the first time I've encountered a reed doing the odd tip opening thing, but I fixed it. Fantastic video btw💌
Does it matter which edge of the reed you use. I remember someone told about this and he told me my left side of the reed but it feels more comfortable on my right side. Something about most reeds are brighter on the left side ?
It'a definitely a more advanced technique. If you don't have tongue and breath support down really well, this will be hard to do. You are basically touching the tip of the reed just enough that it slows down the vibration, but not so much that it stops it.

Never heard of this before. Thanks for the insight
It's one of those things that you don't hear everywhere (like a scoop or a growl).
Wow! Super, super helpful! Just what I needed to see and hear today. Thanks!
Thank you Scott. Pretty cool sound 👍🏼🎷
Very good Scott 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks!
Thank you sir
Thank you... nice explanation ..
Amazing Technique!!!! Thank You Scott!!
thanks!
Scott, how are you? Do you teach someone that is self tought and just want to sound better and play for fun, without too much theory? Thanks 🙏

I will be glad🙏🙏🙏
What’s the difference with ghosting? 🤔
I think this is just a form of that
ghosting is when the note is barely there at all, this is similar, but the note is just muted with your tongue and gives it different effect. It can be done in running lines way easier than a ghost note.
Muted tongue sound interested it's a hard thing to do my tongue isn't make yet for this texhnet?
It definitely takes some work and some control.

Hey scott, I can barely play anything below a low G, and practically no sound comes out below D. What do I do?
I was there once, keep trying.
check out my video on how to play low notes and tongue position. It could also be a gear problem.

Hi Scott,
Thanks for the videos. Is this how you play ghosted notes? Or is that a different techniques? If so how is that different? Thanks!!
A ghost is done all with how much air you are putting into the sax, this is done with using your tongue on the reed to slow down the vibration.
Thanks for explaining the difference. Have a great weekend!!

everything should always be done in the middle, nothing on the left or right.
ok I will try and work on that. Thanks Scott : )
It is much more comfortable using the middle of the reed. Thanks !
Can't do this 😣 it's harder than I thought 😦
Hey! Hey! Please activate the subtitles for Portuguese Brazil !! I don't know English 😕 Thanks 👍 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
With subtitles you can't see my hands, and I often write notes or text on the screen.
Sir actually am trying to understand but things are still complicated 😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔
Same here

Scott Paddock alright sir 🙏🙏🙏
Scott Paddock but sir whenever I tongue i hear a spitty sounds like fuzz fuzz a watery sound 💦
That Sound as a pretty hard thing to do
agreed. It takes some work and control
Isn't that called ghosted notes?

Thanks a lot Scott. Keep up the good work! ;)
