I sobbed while finishing Looking for Alaska. I connected with Alaska so heavily on many aspects of her life, but also with Pudge. Having to fall in love and grieve with him truly hit my heartstrings.
I belong to a group of people who liked looking for Alaska more than the fault in our stars (even though I loved both the book and cried while reading both ).

lovely video! my favourite might just be will grayson, will grayson. i relate to the whole "shut up and don't care too much" rule being a defining part of my personality in high school, and i loved the use of schrodinger's cat to talk about it!
Pulled to a John Green book a few years ago one night on the bottom shelf in a bookstore with several others. I bought them all. All beside one another. Still trying to figure out why. No Coincidence. The Stars of the South. Julian Green is one.
I loved hearing all of your thoughts! I'm still making my way through the repertoire of John Green. And actually, I just purchased a used copy earlier today of An Abundance of Katherines, which is one of his books I've never read. I'm still not sure how I would rank his books...too hard to decide!
In school we all had to pick a book for an assignment, and my girlfriend recommended “An Abundance of Katherines” so I chose it... I’m gonna break up with her now because of that and then write an equation on why it didn’t work out🙃
My favorite to least favorite list: 1. Paper Towns - The mystery really did it for me. Of both finding Margot and discovering who she was. 2. Turtles All The Way Down - I really connected with the depictions of mental illness in this book. 3. TFIOS - This was actually the first book of Green's that I read. Chiefly because of how much I enjoyed the movie. And while the book does an incredible job of fleshing out the characters, I found it a bit difficult to read, due in large to the subject material. Much easier to experience an hour and a half of viewing, than to read over the course of several hundred pages. 4. Looking For Alaska - I actually thought that this book was the least polished of his works, and I didn't particularly care for the ending, but I really enjoyed the characters, the format of moving toward and away from an event, and the philosophical questions that the book raises. 5. An Abundance Of Kathrines - While this is the last book on my list (I haven't read Will Greyson, Will Greyson), I did still enjoy it. I just didn't connect with it. Mostly because the main character is a self-obsessed child prodigy. And also because he spends a good chunk of the book fixated on a math problem, that charts every Kathrine he ever dated, which isn't really important to the reader, because I really didn't know any of these Kathrines. The parts that I did enjoy were how hilarious the main character's best friend was, and getting to know Lindsey.
Even after years if i read “looking for Alaska” the interest level of me wanting to read it again is always the same everytime i read it my heartaches the same way me who really wished for a ending with Alaska will always remain a wish. An unfulfilled wish. Although your review was great. Loved it.🖤
It was a number of years ago when I read them, but The Fault in Our Stars is my favorite. I haven’t read Turtles and I don’t think I will because his style doesn’t appeal as much anymore, but I did cry when I read Stars back in 2014. -Becks
I DNF'd Katherines. For the longest time I felt like I needed to finish it because I got the book signed when I met John Green at an event, but I didn't like the book so I don't really have to. Paper Towns is my favorite! Alaska was such an addicting read though! I also went to go see TFiOS with my mom lol
I recently bought Will Grayson Will Grayson but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have read the rest if John Greens novels and I have to say Papers Towns is my favorite! :)
The only John Green book I have read is The Fault in Our stars and loved it so much❤. I have all his other books on my TBR so I can read them in your rankings lol.
I have read all of his books except An abundance of Katherines and my favorite one is Let it snow (second fave Looking for Alaska but haven't read it for a while! I do wanna reread it tho)
Let It Snow is the only one I haven't read! Oh well and the new collection of essays too. I don't think you are missing much with An Abundance of Katherines.
I've only read Paper Towns and Fault in our Stars, but really liked both for different reasons. I've never heard of Will Grayson, but definitely want to check it out!
ive actually never read any john green books, i didnt read back when he was at his peak. i like the turtles all the way down cover too, its really nice.
I think my favorite John Green book is Paper Towns I just found it so funny when I first read it. Somehow I haven't read Will Grayson, Will Grayson even though I love both John Green and David Levithan. David Levithan writes a lot of books in partnership with other authors. He and his co-writer never plot it out and just exchange chapters every few weeks, which I find it so fascinating. I really enjoyed his book with Nina LaCour "You Know Me Well" and his two most recent middle grade books.
My No.1 favorite is Will Grayson Will Grayson i really enjoy their friendship just like hey please God give me bestfriend like them. and for Turtles All The Way Down the writing is so amazing and relate so much but the story not my thing
Wow!!🤩😳 I personally love An abundance of Kat😅 perhaps because I love the comedy in that book😆 but yea I love John Green's 📚📖 big fan! 🤩😊 Great reviews by the way 👏🏻👏🏻
i understand your point for most of these but my list is so different lollll 1. will grayson, will grayson 2. an abundance of katherines 3. looking for alaska 4. tfios 5. paper towns however i did read these at least 3-5 years ago so if i reread them it'd likely be different for me
I think its great that we have differing opinions on the books! It shows that his writing hits everyone differently and I think that is so cool that he has that much range as an author 😊
I loved Will Grayson! But I think that I enjoyed the chapters written by David Leviathan the most, he actually had me laughing aloud at some points which is rare for me. I think my least favourite book is Looking for Alaska…I’m sorry to say that every single one of the characters irritated me -but most particularly Alaska 😅 I’m not quite sure why. Overall the book just struck me as a little bit wishful.
Tfios made me fall in love with reading, I loved that book so much and the copy that i read wasn't even mine, i just borrowed it from my friend at school to be one of the "cool book dudes" or whatever but it did really pull me in (im still not cool tho) Im still a newbie having only finished 2 books both of which are by John Green. TFIOS, as mentioned earlier, and Paper Towns which i also absolutely love. Any recommendations, preferrably something with a similar vibe to those two? Im planning on saving up for my next read.
That's awesome that you liked it so much! If you want similar vibes to TFIOS, I would recommend If I Stay by Gayle Forman or Five Feet Apart by Rachel Lippincott. Just Breathe by Cammie GcGovern is a good one too!
I haven't read any of John Green's Novel ........ And I have the fault in our stars, Turtles all the way down and paper town which one should I read first..?......
It depends on your preference! Fault in our Stars is good if you need a good cry. Paper Towns is great if you a looking for a mystery/adventure ish book and then Turtles is just overall a book with great mental health rep and worth the read.
I only read 4 of john greens books. My top two favorites are turtles all the way down and the fault in our stars. The books were so amazing and somehow even relatable, i really enjoyed reading them. I read a lot of John Green’s books when I was in my late teens/early twenties. I ended up unhauling them (except Will Grayson, Will Grayson) because I can’t picture ever reading them again. I think your rating was pretty spot on. (Never read Turtles all the Way Down though.)
I'm glad that the one you kept out of all of them was Will Grayson, Will Grayson. I think that one has a lot of meaning to me because it helped me with understanding my sexuality and that I bisexual 😊.
I loovvveeee ranking videos!! 💜💜 yeahhh I remember not liking an abundance of Katherine.... whoa looking for Alaska I’m surprised!! Yes same I thought paper towns was a really good adaptation 💜💜 we love a musical moment!! The fault in our stars was a cultural reset!!
See I would agree that Looking for Alaska is not his best book, but somehow it's the one that stuck with me the most so I would definitely rate it closer to TFIOS...
I hated An abundance of Katherine cause it's just too much of prosses out in my brain rather then being in the book and feel like in the story, and so far my favourite one is THE FAULT IN OUR STARS,(I'M SERIOUSLY IN LOVE WITH IT)🌻 And turtle all the way down was a humor jerky perky vibe {and whenever this book hits me ,it reminded me of sanitizer😂}but the last part broke me up SERIOUSLY
@@BreakevenBooks gosh that was hilarious, maybe listen it on audible,oh wait there's a christmas movie too based on that book , which wasn't that great (in my opinion)
i read an abundance of katherines when i was...maybe 12? and oh boy even now i can still remember how much i couldnt stand all the formulas and whatever. will grayson will grayson and TFIOS are great though!
Haven’t read: Turtles All the Way Down yet, but I think it might end up being my favorite. But the rest, from bottom to the top: 5. The Fault in Out Stars. (I really don’t like this one AT ALL, I literally put it as my worst read of 2020 so far 😅🙈) 4. An Abundance of Katherines. 3. Looking for Alaska. 2. Paper Towns. 1. Will Grayson, Will Grayson.
Turtle is an interesting one! Some people really like it and some don't. I liked TFIOS's so much at the time and I feel like I look back on it now with nostalgia which is why I rated it so high. Our ratings are pretty close other wise though 😛
@Breakeven Books I think that might also be why I didn’t like TFIOS, I read all the others back in 2014-16, I think, but I only just read TFIOS this year. I think I might just have been too late 😅
lol i still need to read an abundance of katherines but my favorite is looking for alaska and least favorite is paper towns, but even that one was so good!
Paper Towns was such a disappointment to me, because it had such a great lead up, only to have THE WORST ENDING. I never saw the movie, even tho I love Nat Wolff. I really like An Abundance of Katherine's even tho it's probably his least memorable book. I just think it's a light and fun story that's so different from most of his other novels. Ah, but I do remember crying to FiOS in the middle of Spanish class, so heart-wrenching.
I will admit that the ending to Paper Towns wasn't amazing. I did really like it for the travel aspect mostly and the friendships. Interesting to see someone that liked An Abundance of Katherines. I knew there was one of you out there 🙂.
I don't really get why so many people dom't like that Paper Towns finale... I mean, I get that is really gut-wrenching, and it leaves you with a lot of bitterness, but it had to end that way, any other scenario would have felt fake and imposed for the happy ending's sake. And those final dialogues between Q and Margo in Agloe are heavenly written, I always get chills
I'm gonna be honest, while I did have a bit of a John Green phase... I wasn't super into it? Like I read a few books mostly because my friends were diehard fans. I even cried a bit in Looking for Alaska. But overall, back then, found it a bit too angsty. :P Dunno how I'll feel now if I re read them tho.
Five Feet Apart by Rachel Lippincott and Just Breathe by Cammie McGovern are great reads for books like TFIOS. If I Stay by Gayle Forman is kind of like Looking for Alaska.
@@BreakevenBooks Well, let me leave you in suspense no longer, lol. My worst to best would be: Will Grayson Will Grayson (and Let It Snow, I think I just don't love his collabs as much as pure John lol), Turtles All the Way Down, Paper Towns, Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, and of course tfios at number 1.
I read the fault in our stars and loved it.so I decided to get another book by JG.read turtles all the way down.I hated it. Never reading another book by him again
if anyone needs any book suggestions i recommend any books by Natasha Preston , shes an amazing author , once you start reading one of her books you cant stop.
UMMMMMM we CANNOT be friends anymore! Are you serious?!?!?!?!?!? How is looking for alaska so low?!? oooh to the point he's said in an interview that the point of showing that behavior is to say that it is problematic and that you shouldn't do it. All jokes aside, I can see why you don't like it, I just love that book so much! It's literally an all time favorite!
I mean I still liked that book 😋! I literally read it in one day and I think I rated it 5 stars when I did. It just didn't compare to the other ones in my opinion 😅.
I think I only read The Fault In Our Stars by him. Only cry in the ending but I thought (my in eightth the grade) like he want to me to cry but I wanted more too see the other chather who is binld beause of his cancer

3. TFIOS - This was actually the first book of Green's that I read. Chiefly because of how much I enjoyed the movie. 5. An Abundance Of Kathrines - While this is the last book on my list (I haven't read Will Greyson, Will Greyson), I did still enjoy it. I just didn't connect with it. Mostly because the main character is a self-obsessed child prodigy. And also because he spends a good chunk of the book fixated on a math problem, that charts every Kathrine he ever dated, which isn't really important to the reader, because I really didn't know any of these Kathrines. turtle all the way down was a humor jerky perky vibe {and whenever this book hits me ,it reminded me of sanitizer😂}but the last part broke me up SERIOUSLY
Yea Abundance was just not for me. TFIOS was awesome though and I'm glad you liked Turtles 😊
@@BreakevenBooks well that's a great similar opinion we have , but what do you think about let it snow👀
@@ipshitajee that's actually the one John Green book I haven't read 😅
@@BreakevenBooks gosh that was hilarious, maybe listen it on audible,oh wait there's a christmas movie too based on that book , which wasn't that great (in my opinion)
i read an abundance of katherines when i was...maybe 12? and oh boy even now i can still remember how much i couldnt stand all the formulas and whatever. will grayson will grayson and TFIOS are great though!
Right?! I was so annoyed reading that book lol. I love the other two though 😊
yeah the turtles cover is so beautiful! and i need to read will grayson will grayson!
Yes you should! It's an adorable book 😊.
@@BreakevenBooks I know! I'm really slacking in that department lol!
The fact that you look as if you are the his first cousin
My top 2 are The Fault in our stars and Paper Towns.
Both great choices!
Haven’t read: Turtles All the Way Down yet, but I think it might end up being my favorite.
But the rest, from bottom to the top:
5. The Fault in Out Stars. (I really don’t like this one AT ALL, I literally put it as my worst read of 2020 so far 😅🙈)
An abundance of katherine is the best wdym? Hahah maybe im into maths i can relate
Yea I was never a big math person so that is most likely why it didn't resonate with me 😅
lol i still need to read an abundance of katherines but my favorite is looking for alaska and least favorite is paper towns, but even that one was so good!
You aren't missing much with that one but you might like it since you like John Green a lot!
@@BreakevenBooks I actually have tried it, but dfned it 60 pages in. I really want to give it another try though!
Aw, I love Let It Snow
I haven't read that one so maybe I could do a re-rank when I do 😋
Paper Towns was such a disappointment to me, because it had such a great lead up, only to have THE WORST ENDING.
Dunno how I'll feel now if I re read them tho.
That is exactly how I would say they are....AGNSTY. 😝
@@BreakevenBooks I like angsty but those were an overdose. I wonder how I'll feel if I reread them tho
Bad for me I watched the show looking for alaska and paper towns but I would love to also read all the books
The books are wonderful! I hope you enjoy them 🙂
Plz suggest some bookes like looking for alaska and the fault in our stars
Five Feet Apart by Rachel Lippincott and Just Breathe by Cammie McGovern are great reads for books like TFIOS. If I Stay by Gayle Forman is kind of like Looking for Alaska.
looking for alaska is by far the best one 😩
It was a good book and I did read it in one sitting but I think some of the others were better 😅
@@BreakevenBooks it had so much drama and like crazy stuff that happened I loved it so much
I totally agree with tfios being number one! But other than that we have a diversity of opinions as John would say, lol.
Oohhh I am curious what your order would be!
@@mkbooks interesting 😊! I haven't seen anyone rate an Abundance of Katherine's so high which is cool 🙂.
@@BreakevenBooks I just think that one is so funny and fun! I always feel like it's his forgotten book and vastly underrated lol.
I read the fault in our stars and loved it.so I decided to get another book by JG.read turtles all the way down.I hated it. Never reading another book by him again
Yea his books are very hit or miss!
You gotta give looking for alaska a shot, you won't regret it, I swear
@@rickfid99 maybe I will. Will see how it goes.
You're cute haha and I love will grayson Will grayson, I want to read something like that, any suggestions?
Thanks haha! Camp by L.C Rosen is good! Also Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets to the Universe.
Fault in our stars is my fave movie,,and I want to have the book same with paper towns
John Green just really brings out the emotions in us! 😊
if anyone needs any book suggestions i recommend any books by Natasha Preston , shes an amazing author , once you start reading one of her books you cant stop.
Thanks for the rec!
lol yes Erik build that anticipation!
Haha I tried although I think it was obvious which one I liked the most 😆.
@@BreakevenBooks You did great! Although it was obvious your top one, all the others were unknown!
Am I the only one who thinks Katherines is the best John Green book?
Nope! My friend Savy thinks that one is the best too 🙂
UMMMMMM we CANNOT be friends anymore!
@@BreakevenBooks Lol I was just joking around! i can definitely see how it didn't compare!
I think I only read The Fault In Our Stars by him. Only cry in the ending but I thought (my in eightth the grade) like he want to me to cry but I wanted more too see the other chather who is binld beause of his cancer
Have you read Hank Green book?
About reread the books , I plan to read ton where in each month you need to reread a book (I did to myself last year)
Oh I know what you mean. I really liked the friend in the story!
Not yet but I have heard it is good!
That's a good way to do it!
But for real are you the third Green brother? 😂
You are literally the 5th person to ask me that! I didn't realize we looked alike till I googled and did a comparison LOL. I'm their long lost brother from another mother 😂
For a sec i thought you were hank. I-
You are like the 5th person to tell me that LMAO 😅
