All they're doing is retelling the series using later material. It's like Showa-era Godzilla and Heisei: Showa built it up, Heisei distilled and refined it. But in this case, the plot hasn't changed ONE BIT. The only change is the animation and in this case, the Japanese dubbing. Not worth it. If I wanted to rewatch RWBY Season 1, I'd hop onto Rooster Teeth and watch the entire series.
honestly, the one bit im sad they removed is ruby's "aaaah" smirk response to the guy after telling her they are robbing the place. small things like that can do alot to give a character personality
A little bit I appreciated was the fact that just the capability of using a Semblence marks Ruby as an extremely gifted fighter. What in the original is left murky until season 5 is extrapolated upon in this series from the very beginning to say that, while everyone _has_ a Semblence, only a handful see it manifest. RWBY has always had interesting worldbuilding stifled by its character writing and I'm glad Ice Queendom is here to clean that up a bit.
The anime has way better directing, but to be fair, it's handled by experienced staff. In 3 episodes they already established aura and semblance in an easy to understand way. It has limits, it's not normal to be able to take a bullet to the face, semblance has to be awakened and only gifted people can do it at a young age. And I like how the original plot helps to immediately understand that Grimm are driven and attracted to negative human emotions, which is something that was made clear only by the end of volume 3 in the original series.
@@icecontrol1 and that's the advantage of doing a remake, they can take the sum whole of the story thus far and completely revamp it to shine it up and make it a wholly better story. Ruby has a very cool fighting style. She let's the weight of her weapon carry her and swings around on it to build up momentum so that she can slice through anything! She can also build up momentum by firing her gun so that she goes even faster! Overall a very well thought out fighting style.
I like to think that her fighting style takes inspiration from Maka Albarn(Soul Eater) who fights in an extremely similar way but without a semblance or gun, and funnily enough Soul Eater was extremely popular around the time the RWBY was made. But, with such an unwieldy weapon, i always thought the way Ruby and Maka use their Scythe is probably the best way, and goddamned it does it look cool lol
