Beautiful tone, mellow and clear, in Balkan bends it is always solo, Flagel takes contra, trumpet plays lyrics and bass background, all rotary..

Oh man. I played the Alto horn from elementary school through high school. I still have my old alto horn. When I was in grade 8 ('79) my school phased out the Alto horns and replaced them with French horns and the high school in my town also did the same which meant I'd either have to switch from Alto horn to another instrument or I'd have to buy my own Alto horn. Thankfully since the school was getting rid of the Alto horns I was able to buy the Alto horn I learned on for $50 so I was the official last Eb Alto Horn player in both my elementary and secondary school. I just loved the sound of the instrument and didn't want to switch to something else. It has such a nice rounded sound without being as muddled as a french horn.
I stopped playing my Alto horn after high school and have worked professionally as a keyboardist and accordionist ever since. I still have my old Alto horn and videos like this really make me want to start composing for it. I wonder how long it would take me to get my embouchure back again? I still remember the fingering and do take it out of its case a couple of times a year and tootle a little bit on it.
    This was an awesome video.

Ooh! I just realized that my calling the instrument an "alto horn" and use of "elementary" and "secondary" schools means I've pinned myself as a Canadian since the British call it a tenor horn and the Canadians and Americans call it and alto horn, but Canadians use elementary and secondary for schools and most Americans use grade school and high school.

Thankyou ..have considered..combining the Tenor Horn...which we call it in the UK..or e flat horn...with some original composition myself. Was a tuba player originally..then saxophone. ..anyway I got the horn out a few years ago now .3 ? And this video is far more popular than what I thought was supposed to be good at..🤔🤣..it's an old beat up horn..that still have..might grab it out of the shed..🧐..anyway..thanks for taking time to comment..you should also play again..👍🫡

Thank you....I play trumpet, just twice I could play a tenor horn and it was a beautiful and touching experience, its sound has an unique softness, deepness and sweetness, and it can get way lower than trumpet (thai I personally love in the low register, specially with my Holton trumpet that is quite big in bore and bell....)

My favorite brass. I played Cornet, Tenor Horn and Euphonium many years ago. The Tenor Horn moved me most.

I prefer upbeat and brilliant songs on the tenor horn, but i feel like euphonium most fits this style, along with tuba.

Great sound considering that you are a sax player. It was very like a flugelhorn. I recently switched to tenor horn after 58 years playing trumpet cornet and flugelhorn. Loving the experience 😊

I'm kind of surprised that the tenor horn is not more popular than it is. I've been playing tenor horn for couple of years and I adore it now, it really is a lovely sound. I also play alto sax and keys.

Thats brilliant what a super sound you're making on that old horn . I play a 50 year old euphonium which sounds gorgeous . In short they knew how to make instruments back in the day . Keep on playing the brass matey .

Great to resurrect old instruments. I've just got my Grandad's Hawkes and Son (London) 1912 cornet into working order. Plays pretty well but in the wrong current pitch for band inclusion.
