  • Kayaking the Turkey River between the Garber, IA and Osterdock, IA at the dedicated landings. Both are dedicated landings and indicated on Google Maps. Both have plenty of parking and are well signed at the landings and bridges. Mud was not an issue at either landing, nor on the river, since the river is mostly sand and gravel. The river gauge at Garber was about 5.86’ and was ‘LOW’. Although this level is low, there was plenty of water and we only got hung up a few times and had to get out and walk twice. With how dry it’s been lately, it’s nice to see that water wasn’t too much of an issue on this stretch. The trip was 7.5 miles and took us about 2 ½ hours at a leisurely pace. With more water and current, that could be cut down. I don’t know if I’d try to do this trip any (or much) below this water level.
