The problem with judo that its nice to watch cherry-picked moments. But when you see a whole fight or a tournament it gets a bit boring.

When I was training for my 1st Dan 15 years ago my training partner and I got traning where we had to practice a technique 1000 consecutive times.
So you fall 1000 times right after eachother.
Once this was finally over we had 2 hours break and the next training was to re-do previous training.
You can imagine how many times you need to fall during training.

Judo was the first martial art I ever trained in, and still my favorite. I've been learning some Japanese Jujutsu lately, but if I could still do Judo, you better believe that I would. I still love watching Judo matches whenever I can. I especially admire and respect the severity that hardcore Japanese practitioners take it.
From what I understand, the serious competitors are taught to view every throw as a life or death situation, not just as a point, metaphorically anyway. I'm not saying that they are invincible or that other competitors from across the world don't also share this viewpoint, but it's interesting to see how some look at Judo in much the same way that fighters back in past eras likely did.
For some, it's not just as a competition. I've heard their dedication explained in this manner in a documentary I saw a long while back, anyway. It was a series called, "Samurai Spirit," hosted by a Kyokushin karate Champion and former Kickboxer named Nicholas Pettis. He would go around Japan and learn more about other Japanese marital arts outside of his own. They did an episode on Judo among others. If anyone is interested, you can likely still find it on RUclips. It's pretty great :D
