Hello again - I tested 5 different types of varnish on a goldleaf canvas. So you don't have to! Let's see what the different finishes are, and which ones I ranked as the best. Check out more videos on my channel with full goldleaf tutorials of how to apply to a canvas. Product reccommendations listed below. Got any questions, add a comment and I'll reply!

    Hi
Can I use " crystal clear spray " on both gold leaf and acrylic paintings or it's not recommended 🤔.
Can I use any acrylic varnish on gold leaf work ??
    Thanks 😊

Tried the Polyvine on a copper leaf guitar project, dulled the leaf too much. Will go back to Krylon gallery series spray for sealing.

@@joewright7723 I’m sorry to hear that. Copper leaf I find more difficult to maintain than the gold. I hadn’t heard of Krylon but I’m going to get some and try it out. Thank you

Wonderful video. I wish i found this video before I used gloss mod podge on my work it turned the gold almost a green brown and the copper went so dull. I was just wondering how the gloss finish works with copper metal leaf and if a reaction happens. I had to subscribe thanks again for the informative video.

Thx so much! Glad it was helpful. TBH I’ve ruined projects in the past trying different varnishes, so sad. I actually haven’t tried varnishing the copper leaf yet. I’m going to do a test and will post the results. Louise 🩷

@@LouiseDeanArtist wonderful I can’t wait to see the outcome with the copper. I’ve tried different sealers on cosmic shimmer gilding flakes with no luck the Christmas decorations look good untreated i just hope they stand the test of time.

Thanks very much, very helpful! May I ask the brand and quality of gold leaf that you used? Also, have you used the top recommended varnish on plain wood at all? Thanks again!

@@chrispapadopoulos6262 hi, this was imitation goldleaf bought on Amazon. Very affordable and gives a lovely result. There’s a link in the description. Recently I have been experimenting with superior quality imitation goldleaf, and am working on a 23ct commission! So I’m going to make a video comparing all. Louise

What is meant that makes you feel Kolner is not strong? They make it to protect their own products. Thank you

Hi there, I used the Polyvine on (imitation) gold leaf. It hasn't dried clear. Its given an unwanted tarnished look and I can see the brushstrokes. Could I have used too much or something?

Hi, that is so annoying and has happened to me before 😢 what I have learnt is to just do one coat as smoothly and lightly as you can. Use a large flat brush. Did you use the Gloss or Mat varnish? Louise
