Hi, that is so annoying and has happened to me before 😢 what I have learnt is to just do one coat as smoothly and lightly as you can. Use a large flat brush. Did you use the Gloss or Mat varnish? Louise

Thx so much! Glad it was helpful. TBH I’ve ruined projects in the past trying different varnishes, so sad. I actually haven’t tried varnishing the copper leaf yet. I’m going to do a test and will post the results. Louise 🩷

⁠@@LouiseDeanArtist wonderful I can’t wait to see the outcome with the copper. I’ve tried different sealers on cosmic shimmer gilding flakes with no luck the Christmas decorations look good untreated i just hope they stand the test of time.

@@chrispapadopoulos6262 hi, this was imitation goldleaf bought on Amazon. Very affordable and gives a lovely result. There’s a link in the description. Recently I have been experimenting with superior quality imitation goldleaf, and am working on a 23ct commission! So I’m going to make a video comparing all. Louise

@@LizzyAnn904 hi, I actually didn’t! And it’s been fine. It was a commission for a friend . However since I’m 4 years on with using goldleaf, I do use a varnish now. If you go to my channel you can find a comparison of different varnishes! Louise ✨

Hi, I actually have a Part 2 to this video where I show how I paint on top of the goldleaf. I usually paint my design in white gesso, but white acrylic works well too. Louise 😊

@@audreyhogg9488 hi Audrey, so what you can do is apply a second layer of goldleaf. And don’t place them exactly over the first ones. Then when you brush away you have a more solid effect. Hope that makes sense!! Louise

Hi, so there is an alternative way to use goldleaf. You can paint your design, then apply the size (glue) to all the unpainted areas. Then place the leaf down, brush away and reveal your painting. I need to make a video for that I think!!! 😊

hi -Thank you! this was imitation goldleaf. I actually didn't varnish it as it was in the early stages of my goldleaf adventure. Although the customer says they are still looking great anyway. I'm just about to publish a video all about different varnish options so stay tuned

hi, so I'm actually not familiar with the hard coat Modge Podge. I guess what you could do is do a test on a different canvas to see if it works? good luck, let me know if works! xx

hi - I paint onto the goldleaf. I normally paint my design in white acrylic and then layer ontop of that with either acrylics or oils. You can get a very realistic effect with goldleaf as the base. check out some of my other goldleaf videos where I have painted birds and flowers. My favourite brand for acrylics is Sennelier Abstract, and also Windsor and Newton. Get the best paints you can afford. Cheap acrylics don't have much body to them and can be disappointing. hope this helps!
