I made my vent out of one them Chrome custom valve cover breathers today like U would put on Small Block chevy. Started to down pour so I did not get to test it out. I am hoping not to have oil gush out all over the place on the thing... I bought it used a few days ago and got going yesterday after routing hoses a little diff out of the way and modified the the filter housing with swivel fittings after replacing my pump which is why the guy that sold it to me sold it. I had a spare Briggs Quantum engine sitting around in the shop and it fit right on less cutting the shaft 3/4" shorter... The problem I seemed to be having is after it was running it seemed to have a load on the engine so I would check the fluid the thing was damn near empty when I got it because everything was disconnected with pipe plugs in the fitting holes. So I put 4gal of oil in it and today as I made that breather up was the reasons I figured the system was not breathing or could not vent enough. Maybe was just being low on oil but 2 times it seemed full until it ate the entire 60 bucks of oil I put in it and now seems low again... It's stated the machine holds 6 gallons??? Someone let me know... The owners manual for the machine I got is not my machine. I did split almost a cord of wood with it and tried to restart it a few times it was fine until I almost finished up then the thing acted like it has load on the engine... Someone clue me in..

If you use a loader to move firewood I came up with a little hack of sorts ...I have a couple sets of bucket forks ...I put one set clamped on the non motor side on the bottom edge of the splitters I beam...I put my pallet on the set of forks...then I lay another pallet on top as it gets it close to splitter table height ...then I keep a 3rd pallet on the ready ...I put a piece of romex wire like a giant twist tie back to a hole in my bucket bottom to keep the pallet in the loader forks wen dumping then I take the loader to wooden crates I get and dump the wood from the pallet to the crate dump it ..if I have someone else run that I'll put that 3rd pallet on the splitter pallet to keep things moving whilst the other is being dumped.

I have been checking out the reviews on the Huskee 22 ton splitter. I bought mine new 7 years ago and have been very happy with it. This past summer, I took it to a friend of mine who owns and runs a welding/ repair shop. He designed and built a boom for use in the vertical position. I bolted a hand crank winch which houses 50 ft of 1/4 cable that I run through a snatch block pulley. I have the largest set of logging tongs that I could get fastened out to the other end of the cable. I end up having to clean up storm damaged and downed mature trees that the trunks are usually 48 inches in diameter, sometimes more. With the new modifications to the splitter. 1 person can crank the big blocks into the splitter with ease, where 2 guys struggled in the past. Even using a can't hook. I found that by positioning the splitter slightly downhill from the blocks that they slide right into place. I leave a slight bit of tension on the tongs because they will not split all the way through at first. I simply spin the blocks in place until they absolutely will not hold together anymore and at that point, I can handle the remaining pieces.
I found the unit to be very tongue heavy with the added weight of the boom, so I returned to the welding shop and had my buddy remove the old light gauge tongue and replace it with a longer and much heavier gauge box tube and then weld on a Bull Dog jack to replace the old goofy leg stand that the unit comes from the factory with.
I am very pleased with my Huskee 22 ton. I too have found nothing that it cannot handle. It either splits it or cuts it. With the new mods that I have done, it has made a good machine great and even more versatile.

Bought my 28 ton Huskee from Tractor Supply 5 years ago. Even though it is only 25 miles and I was very careful to stay under 40 mph (45 is recommended) the wheel bearings were destroyed when I got home. First time I tried to use it all the high pressure fittings leaked-I should have checked before starting. Tires went flat over summer if I forgot to air them on a regular basis. It’s a real pain in the butt to reseat the bead every year so I put tubes in each tire. Here it is 5 years and maybe 20 cords of wood later and the cylinder is leaking to the point it can’t be used. I’ve been told by two local hydraulic repair shops the cylinder is a 50/50 chance repairable. Replacement cylinder though Huskee is $465. Extremely unhappy with Huskee to say the least.

those engines also have a bottom drain plug as well, as Sam said.....and as far as what O5fordtx1 says I think he is mistaking the exi series engines with 190cc 6.75 gross torque engines, although they do have a maintenance free electronic ignition

I'm assuming you bored out two holes for the log catcher attachment? I just pickup a used Huskee 22 ton. I didn't see any pre drilled holes. Also, any recommended brand of catcher? TSC has a Countryline in stock. thank you!

Just in case you didn't know...there's an oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine, that's not that hard to get to.

It's because Briggs & Stratton claims you never need to change your oil which is totally crap
