17:35 don’t put your finger inside any rotating holes on a lathe! Use a catch bar or kiss your finger goodbye now!
These cranes are great, I need to restore mine! It would be good to shorten those cotter pins or they will shred your ankles. I don’t usually assume the role of the safety police by the way but those two things will give you a world of hurt!

Looks like (26:02) it has the remains of some feet that it lowers onto when the handle is raised? Maybe they had a block of wood on the bottom of them or something? Otherwise there seems no point in the raise/lower handle mechanism.

Fantastic job dude. Like the way you used some antique tools to restore an antique. One question why did you heat up bit before welding it? Is it because it’s iron and makes it easier to weld?

    • @trashflood7883

Better weld penetration, especially on large pieces of metal and if your welder is a bit underpowered for the job.

All while wearing BLACK nitrile gloves, not these hideous green things. 🙄

Yeah, at least he didn't use a needle scaler on gear teeth, hammer in ball bearings with a hammer, bang on the threads of a bolt with a steel hammer or use actual sand in his sand blaster... Oh but he did do at least three of those.
But I get the inference... Different strokes for different folks.
That said, very nice restoration! As soon as I saw him pull the wheels off I was hoping he'd clean/true them up on the lathe, and he did. Well done...
