Black In Spain | I MOVED TO SPAIN! & I'm Scared?

- I'm a black girl from Chicago who just moved to Barcelona. I'm here in Spain to study fashion. I felt that I would get a better education as well as more industry experience than I would in Chicago. Even though I studied abroad a year in Madrid during my undergrad career, this time around I'm very scared. However, God is teaching me to be anxious for nothing but in everything through prayer and supplication to make my request known until Him, and He will give me the desires of my heart.

Sorry I was super parched lol. The weather was super dry and my body was trying to adjust
Super cute as well

Such a big inspiration for me!!! Good luck with future plans!

And you help others learn Spanish like me yaaassss!! New subbie here. This is amazing!!
A.M.Motivation 🙌🏽 I hope I can help!
I feel like you're gonna have great success in Spain! Especially because you took the risk! And your spanish sounds A1!!! Good luck. New subbie :)
I greatly appreciate this and success here has definitely been my prayer! Your Japanese is AMAZING btw!
Thank you! I'm hoping to embark on a journey very similar to yours soon. I also want to vlog more but I just dunno what to talk about sometimes haha. Wish me luck!
I appreciate you speaking in both language! We're moving to Spain in 2019 and I can use all the help I can get (in addition to classes, software, etc). Not sure where we'll eventually live. Our daughter and new family live outside of Madrid in a small town. My wife lived in Spain 18 years and is fluent so I feel like a fish out of water though I've been to Spain six times. We want to live where there is an art and music scene (or easy access to it), good public transportation, clean air and water, and hope to find a house which means outside the city itself but easy access to a city center. I hope you are continuing to acclimate and have a wonderful life in Spain.
Thank you so much! & you'll definitely get all these things in Spain, with the exception to clean air lol but good luck with your new journey!!!
You're going to do well in Spain. I was actually going to suggest that you try to move there. I have a friend whose daughter moved there to teach English and she loved it. I know you're into fashion, but your language skills will also come in handy and can keep money in your pocket in the meantime. Keep it up!
habibijan I really need this! Thank u so much ☺️
Hola hola! Me voy a mudar a Espana en Octubre para ensenar ingles en una escuela, tengo un poquito miedo pero yo se que tengo Dios y tu canal, asi que voy a estar bien! -- I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos! Please let us know of tips about transitioning from the US to Spain and finding an apartment, because that's my biggest worry at the moment, I'm only 21 btw :)
QUE BIEN! y tu español es super!! I'm beyond proud of you for making this move, and I promise you God will keep you every single step of the way, he's showing me day by day that he is real and when you obey him he will make all the provision you need. I'll definitely make the video you requested as soon as possible! And if you have any more questions or doubts I'd love to answer them. And I PROMISE you will find a place to stay, don't worry. a scripture that helped me with my apartment search was "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Therefore don't worry".
Hello, how do you go to another country to be a teacher? How is that possible?
Just getting into your channel! Quiero aprender español. Quiero vivir en españa. But I finished undergrad about 2 years ago and i'm not looking to do my masters any time soon. Espero que buscar un trabajo. This is basically research to gather some info to work and live abroad in the next two years. Tengo muchas preguntas! Lol gonna binge watch these videos. Adios 💖
So glad I’ve been able to help u out! I’ve learned that teaching English in Spain is probably a bit of an easier to get down there if you don’t want to study! Let me know if u come across any questions with ur research!
I want to work in fashion too! But in the financial side of it lol. I’m so glad I found your channel cos I can relate a lot and learn a lot
The financial side is where the money is! You got this girl!
still so crazy. happy for you!
HVK33M X thanks Keem!
Which city do you prefer? Madrid or Barcelona? I'm a black girl from Cali and I speak fluent Spanish. :) I'm thinking about moving to Spain to be a bilingual teacher but I'm nervous lol I'm torn between Madrid and Barcelona
Que cool eres tu!!! Barcelona is a VERY touristic city and the culture is very slow pace...it's like you're on a permanent vacation; however if you're looking to perfect your Spanish it's hard here because casi todo el mundo aqui habla ingles.
Madrid is a little more "serious" yet still slow pace but not as slow as Barcelona. However they are more focused on family and work y mucha gente no le gusta hablar ingles, entonces si quieras mejorar tu espanol, Madrid es perfecto!
A mi, prefiero a vivir en Madrid y tener vacaciones en Barcelona.
Sierra LaFaye gracias por su consejo nena 💕 y su español es perfecto 👌 eres muy bonita también. Por favor, haga más vídeos 💕💕
Gracias! it's far from perfect but cada dia estoy aprendiendo. Y para ti, hago mas vídeos !!
i think Madrid is better because in Barcelona there are a lot of problems with the inpendens .
Hello, how do you become a teacher in a different country?
After my class trip there two months ago i decided i want to go to Barcelona after school and maybe study there but i think i didn‘t realize during my trip how bad spain is when it comes to race. I kinda want to challenge myself and grow. This video is great and is going to help with my decision
Definitely go back!! It's totally worth it
I loved this video! I am going to study abroad in Seville next spring for undergrad, and might eventually want to live in Spain. When you studied abroad were you already fluent in Spanish??
Mya How exciting!!! Congratulations! I promise you’re gonna fall in love with Spain! & the most I could say when I arrived was hola, como estás in my heavy American accent so everything I learned was from studying here. U will learn a lot in Seville!
Sierra LaFaye wowww that’s absolutely amazing! Your Spanish is so good now, you literally sound like a native speaker. Do you think it was harder taking classes in Spain or the US??
Mya aw thanks! And I wish I sounded like a native speaker, Spaniards always tell me I have a “different” accent and try to figure out where I’m from lol. And taking Spanish in Spain was more difficult for me because all my classes were spoken only in Spanish and I had to take classes such as business, history, literature, etc. However with the help of many tutors I managed to get through my classes and learned way more Spanish than I ever did in the US
Sierra LaFaye Haha that’s funny. I have a hint of a country accent when I speak it. And ohhh, I gotcha. At least you got through it. Did you stay for the whole year? (srry for all the questions!!!)
Don't apologize I love answering questions about my Spain journey! I stayed in Madrid for a year because I'm a "slower" learner and knew that I personally wouldn't learn much in a semester. & although I learned a lot in that year I felt like there was still so much more for me to learn which is another reason why I came back
I'm moving to Spain in a few months and I LOVE your videos. In terms of housing, would you recommend living in a house with a lot of housemates or an apartment with one or two? Also, what is the social life like?
Thanks so much! Personally I like to live with just one roommate (both years I was in Spain I only had one roommate) In my opinion it makes it a little easier to only have one person/personality to learn to live with than to have multiple
@@sierralafaye Thank you, I was thinking the same!
deciding on whether to visit Madrid or Barcelona in a few months. Trying to decide which one will yield a better cultural experience, any suggestions?
Charis Redding That’s awesome! I actually just made a video called “Which is better: Barcelona or Madrid” I talked about some of the differences and maybe once you watch it you can make a decision, but if you still have more questions please feel free to ask ☺️
Im lovin the vids
Keep up the good work
Savage Gamin thanks cuz! Same to u!
im thinking about studying abroad in Madrid but im scared about the racism and stuff like that is it really as bad as people make it out to seem? Also what is the school system over there like?
DO IT!!! racism is not really a big thing in Europe as it is in the USA, in fact it's refreshing because people look at you for you and that fact that you're from America before they see the color of your skin. I'll be uploading a Q&A study abroad video tomorrow where I talk a little about schooling but if you have some specific questions just let me know and I'll do another video for you!
Love this because I’m trying to learn Spanish and hope to move to Spain in a few years
You can do it!! It's also def worth the trip in helping you to learn Spanish
Thanks for sharing and merry Christmas to you ✅⬛️⬛️⬛️🐲🐲
I love Barcelona & this video ♥️
I greatly appreciate it! :)
Im a black man born and raised in Washington DC. I would like to go to Spain and engulf myself into their culture as well as learn to speak Spanish fluently
zachary johnson you should definitely do it!! It’s not often that blacks, especially black males, study abroad there. It’s amazing that it’s a desire of yours! I’m rooting for you!
Subtitles would be. Btw, movies from Spain are really nice (good practice too).
Movies are a great way to practice!
I loved this video! I'm looking into getting my masters in Barcelona, but I'm curious to know what it's like to live there as a black American. Do you face much prejudice? Are there any black hair dressers?? Very curious what the black experience would be like there! - Gracias!!
I’ll def make a video all about this!
Your question is offensive, in Spain for most people no matter your color, as if you are checkered. There are no black neighborhoods, but it does matter if you are a good person or a bad person or if you want to integrate. Although you can find some stupid, it is not normal.
........I'm black and I want to move to Spain. There's nothing offensive about my question
@@user-lu4vx3sh5z Sorry, it was a confusion. I do not speak English and I understood that you asked if there were hairdressers for blacks, my mistake, I was offended because the hairdressers are for everyone. I understood it more, my most sincere apologies.
Juan García I understand your confusion. Thanks for clarifying
Hello, Im from LA but living in Prague now and was thinking about checking out spain as a possible relocation. I have wife and toddler I teach enlgish give me some pointers .............also just started learning spanish im like A2 level
I also studied abroad in Spain, and I am looking to move there for grad School. can we connect because I feel like I have endless questions? lol
I gained an admission in c3s business school Barcelona, hope there are prospects there..
Congrats!!!
I'm older than you living in states, I do want to learn Spanish bad. But my busy schedule and attention span makes me just want to move and force myself to learn it.
I honestly felt it was the only way for me personally to learn. I think if it's something you've always wanted to learn, do it! Life is short, see if you can take a year off, move to a Spanish speaking country and learn !
Your accent is so fluently beautiful
Oh wow, thank you so much
Your Spanish is great, I lived in Barcelona for almost 2 years. I think you should definitely get an internship so you can make more money. Dime me la verdad, los homBres de espana eres no gaupismo o esta differente in Madrid?
Thanks so much, my Spanish is still a long work in progress pero poco a poco. Y a mi, I think a lot of the guys out here are beautiful lol but I'm so focused on me I don't give them a second thought...I think they are cuter than the guys in Madrid...maybe cause we're on the beach and half the time guys aren't wearing shirts hahaha
your Spanish is perfect
Johnny Saint I wish but thank u!
I’m a black teen from NY and I really want to study abroad from an American school or go to a school abroad and live in Spain!
YOU WILL DO IT! Write it down and watch it happen; that's how it happened for me
@@sierralafaye ❤️❤️❤️
I live in Los Angeles....your so beautiful. Are your parents from the US because you look Belizean
Aw thank you so much! My parents are from the US
Your tittle gives the impression Spain is unsafe, maybe nicer if you address in thetitle that it is your personal anxiety problems that give you this experience rather than the country.
#marketing :)
Hi Beautiful, New Friend here in tune and watching!😉👌💖🌼💖
How was the process for applying for the masters program?
I think the process was pretty similar to applying to grad schools in the USA (without the thesis-instead I had to do a thesis while in the masters program) but I had to send over transcripts, my undergrad diploma, letter of purpose, job experience, references, portfolio, etc. and do an interview via Skype
were you able to work while you were a student? Sorry for the questions! I am interested in getting my masters in Spain
I love the questions! It was extremely hard for me to get a job because the economy SUCKS! Even many natives find it hard to secure work. And although I have a high proficiency in Spanish, the fact that I'm not fluent was another strike against me. However after job hunting for 8 long months I secured a small internship with the help of my school, but I was only able to legally work 20hrs a week and I made around $3.50 an hour, so I would suggest you not even try to stress yourself out about finding work
I am from chicago and want to move to London 😊 love it.
Do it!!!! You're going to love it!
Wow!! she speaks it very well, she looks like a black Latina though, Dominican to be precise. Good luck to you.
Chelo Figueroa Lol thanks
I'm planning to move to Spain after I retire in 20 years...Ive already been there on study abroad program. So regret not being able to return!!!
Retirement in Spain is definitely the move! Spain has that effect on people, once you try a piece you'll be begging for more!
@@sierralafaye I also was the first student from Tuskegee University to study abroad for a semester. I was in Seville, Spain. Also got to travel throughout Europe during that time. Like you, I did experience being lonely a lot. I was not as fortunate as some other students to have their parents come visit me from the US. Other students definitely were more financially affluent compared to me, so I had that weighing on me too Waiting until I retire to live in Spain for 1 year is a really long time from now it seems, but I do not want to have to worry about getting a job there; I can barely get a job here in the US...lol. I know I'll be feeling lonely there, not to mention language barrier, and other bureaucracies and adjustments, but I still want to do it.
You're definitively making the right choice by doing it once you have some retirement money in your pocket! And I'm sure you're already aware that the over experience is worth the small things we have to endure so that's what's pulling you back in! Or at least that's what keeps me coming back
Can you connect with other youtubers who live in Spain?
A.M.Motivation You know I never thought about that but that’s something I definitely need to look into! Thanks for that ☺️
Yes you are welcome. Hope you are enjoying Spain.
Hello beautiful ur so cute .. I’m here to show love ❤️

You still in spain? How do you like it?
Yes I'm still here! & I love Spain, it's honestly my second home
@@sierralafaye how long have you been there now?
@@sierralafaye I want to leave the U.S. for Spain so bad!!
I've been here for about 11 months this year, but lived in Madrid for a year in 2014
Hahaha! it's definitely a place to come to! however, the grass isn't always greener on the other side ;)
Great video! We have some similar videos! Maybe we can colab!

Hello my friend
Hola mi amigo
Good Luck, why are you so scared?
I was scared because I knew I would face some heavy challenges alone here, but God's helped me to know with him that I'm never alone
Sierra LaFaye wish you the best, like the old song from earth wind & fire. Keep your head to the sky.
Just found you and subscribed to your channel! 🙌🏾I love Barcelona and will be out there in the summer! Looking forward to checking more of your videos on cultural differences too! Please check out my channel too 💕 xxx
Barcelona es una ciudad mas bonita pero Madrid es mucho mas acogedora.
I just learned a new word! I'm def using acogedora often now!
You sound like us Chicanos tho. Spain has a weird accent. And some words you use are Castellano which is the Spanish used in Mexico. A mix between native dialect Nahuatle and spanish. Not saying you use them 100% but some words pop out that are used only in Mexico. Regardless of that i Subed.
Very strange you called Castellano that kind of mix.
In Spain, Castellano is the exact same thing than Spanish. Spanish was born in Castilla.
castellano is spanish from spain..
shes from the US im sure she's practiced spanish with mexican americans not too many of the colonizers out here pero todavia..
Hello beautiful
