I am korean , thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a black magic, and this one grows just like yours. I guess here in korea , sellers do not distinguish black magic and runner. I grow mine at a big pot and waiting for it to make a bulb like others. But it looks like yours and I can't find correct information until find it. Thank you.
This is really interesting as i got a new colocasia this year that also runs, but it is in a large pot, so they dont really dont anything, but go a bit straggly. It is good to see how they behave if grown in the ground!
I'm in zone 8 (Georgia). I already planted the green elephant ears last year and I wanted to add the black magic. I just ordered some bulbs from a nursery in North Carolina and I cannot wait to plant them!!!!!! I don't have a green thumb but elephant ears seem hard to kill...lol.
@DJLanta Hey. So my regular elephant ear bulbs came from Sam's club, and the black magic bulbs came from Eden Brothers. I ordered them. No, I've never heard of Pike Nursey.
It’s creeping dollar weed. I removed it all several times and it just keeps growing back. I’m thinking of just leaving it. It’s a great ground cover and keeps the soil moist.
Can you recommend reliable sellers for elephant ear bulbs? I've tried a couple and always received rotten or dried bulbs. The couple that I have, I bought from home depot as plants. But as you know, the choice is limited.
I love them and actually I would grow the black runner again as it's beautiful, and it turned out it was easy to pull up if I didn't want it to spread.
Sorry, when I dug it up I only kept the main plant which surprisingly didn't have a very large bulb and didn't store well over winter. The smaller ones had roots but no bulb. I should have potted a couple of them up and kept indoors over winter but I didn't. I do think I'll try to get one again this year. I purchased it from Lowes.

Yes, they're super easy to grow! Another one of my favorites is coffee cup, sometimes called tea cup. I love how the leaves all face upwards.
Hey I’m in Georgia!! Can you share with me where you got your bulbs? Have you tried Pike Nursery by chance?
