Dave Baird it doesn’t take a special person, just takes a special circumstance. I turned my life around (from drugs and videogames to sports and traveling) after I almost lost everything, and sincerely thought that I fucked up my life for good. But that doesn’t have to happen to everyone. I mean, if such a change is physically possible, why not try to do that without waiting for the last minute realizations? Otherwise, these realizations may come when it will be already too late - and that’s scary.
I almost stopped the video thinking, I’ll never go to Alaska but I kept watching and was not disappointed! Wow! Alaska is gorgeous! This is an awesome lifestyle.

Finally...after endlessly checking for updates since season 4, now i get to vicariously consume alaska through the kombi life. This episode and how you documented the family you and your lovely lady stayed with, was first rate. Damn, I'm a resourceful sort of fellow myself and walk the world with confidence, but living a subsistence lifestyle in Haines, AL, spending your day fishing, crabbing, hunting and chopping enough fire wood during the BRIEF Alaskan summers in order to sustain a family of four over the LONG Alaskan winters, and restoring vintage violins, as well as, being a competent self-taught VW mechanic (another episode) -- and -- having the carpentry skills of a former professional log cabin builder (in VA before the housing crash) ... Chad needs his own RUclips channel.

Got the time, funds and mechanical knowledge but due to a head injury whilst in army can only drive short distances. But 33 have to figure something out soon. Love the content 😊
to Willow: I'm sorry to hear about your brain injury. However you can still do this. There are thousands of people watching this channel that can drive and have the time but they don't have the money and they would jump at the opportunity to travel with you, doing the driving if you could take care of some or all of their expenses. Or you could rely on picking up people along the way like these guys are doing to get your drivers or you could arrange in advance for other travelers to join you for a month at a time etc... There are lots of possibilities to make this work. I don't think you would have any problems finding drivers to help out along the way. If you have the easy going, trusting, friendly, enjoy strangers attitude you will have a great time. It could be problematic though if you have the opposite personality. But even if a loner, it could be a good exercise in learning to be more open and accepting of others. Good luck and hope to see your RUclips channel with your travel experience in the future.

What happened to Skagway? That's an amazing town, can't believe you would have just got on the ferry there. It's a way more interesting and historic town than Haines. Lived in Skagway for 9 years and went by that Alaska sign dozens of times, beautiful place. Wish you would have shown it here but good videos and great adventures you have. Thanks for sharing.
