  • As we continue our journey with the new lapping machine, John nerds out with Todd from Engis about how to use it, and why diamond conditioning rings are better. Then Erik talks about how much he loves the new machine, and what he didn't expect about it.
    Enjoy!

After having operated lapping machines myself, I know about how they can get out of flat.
You need to just spend time with them and check your parts constantly for deviations ao that you can compensate by moving your rings or out depending upon where the wear is occurring on the lap plate.
After a while it will become second nature.
Also remember that the company “wants” to sell you compound lubricant and new lap plates!

Did I hear you are lapping the blades to a shiny finish then running thru the tumbler?

Really enjoy your videos. Keep it up guys, I’ll hopefully order a Norman here soon. The precision that you’re working with I find absolutely astonishing with using a wire edm. I’m new to the machining world but it’s still an amazing feat.

What do you class as deep scratches? If you're tumbling after why use 6 micron and a copper composite? You could use a bigger micron size and a harder composite. If the 6 micron finish isn't the final look I could do a lot better with a much easier process to maintain. Send me some samples!!:-)
