  • Today we have a 2007 Dodge Charger with the 3.5L V6. The customer has requested replacement of the timing belt and water pump. They provided a Dayco timing belt kit that came with the belt, water pump, tensioner pulley, cam seals and crank seal. We found that the kit did not come with 3 o rings that are needed so you will need to source those separately. This job will require a some special tools: harmonic balancer removal tool, a crank pulley removal tool, and an installer tool to reinstall both of these pulleys, and an appropriately sized punch for the crankshaft alignment dowel. You will also need thread sealer on the 6 rear timing cover bolts that are behind the cam gears. Everything else is basic hand tools. This procedure should be the same on 2006 Dodge Charger, 2007 Dodge Charger, 2008 Dodge Charger, 2009 Dodge Charger, and 2010 Dodge Charger equipped with the 3.5L H.O. engine as well as other Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep products with this engine.

This was a very helpful video. Well explained. It is time for my TB and waterpump on my 09 charger for the 2nd time. I purchased her new and do all my own repairs and maintenance. What was very helpful was the pulling of the cam gears. I need to change the 3 wp O ring seals this time. The manual makes removing cam gears more complicated than your video procedure. Thanks.

GJ doing the right thing, what a horrible design, is anything worse than a Chrysler.

Thanks. Yeah, this car definitely has some stupid design features. But I still think I’d rather do it than the Mercedes c230 we put a front driveshaft in.

Question on the timing belt removal. If you are pulling the belt off, and the gears rock back out of place (in line with timing markings). As long as you line the gears back up with their timing marks when you re-install the belt. Then that is fine? No issues?

Should be fine. That’s not uncommon. As long as you go back the direction it came from to get back to the mark.

What did you put on the back timing cover seal when you did the 'lotion on the skin" bit?

Silicone paste. Not the sealant, but the lube kind.
