I'm here in the Southeast part of the US, and sounds like we do pretty much the same thing as far as the starting mix goes. Only thing different, is the mix you used to transplant your seedlings in is relatively what I start my seeds in. Speaking of which, I just got out my note pad today to write down the main seeds I'll be planting. Starting this next coming up weekend is our seed starting dates by the Moon Signs, and I am looking so forward to it. I actually got outside this morning and got my seed starting mix ready. 3 big scoops peat moss, 1 big scoop compost, and a 2 cups Pearlite. Now, I have to dig through the storage room to get to my grow box. I made myself a Plastic storage tote (Container) into a grow box by making a wood lid on top and added some light fixtures to it. Another thing I love about this season, is the amount of varieties of different items I am planting. Tomatoes alone, I have 13 different kinds I'm playing with and as far as the Peppers go, I have 15 different types. Last year, my mind was all over the place dealing with so many different vegetables in what they needed and the amount of stuff to help get the best harvest out of each, I was frantic and so stressed out. So this year, I'm making it simple. ONLY tomatoes and Peppers is the main garden this year. Sure, there'll be other items in the garden, but only ones I know don't need a ton of what to get a good harvest. Onions is one of those plants. I planted my bulbing onions last spring and they've made it threw the winter just fine. I finally transplanted them in the garden bed last August and watched them grow from the size of yours to pencil size all winter. I'm hoping here in the next few weeks when the weather starts to warm up, they take off and I'll get a harvest by June. BTW, I bought myself a Columnar Apple tree since the last video you posted. I'm so looking forward to watching it grow. I didn't even realize there was such a thing, until I watched your video. Thank you and I hope and wish you the best of luck in your 2024 Garden Season. Can't wait to see more Eli and Kate videos.
I was under the impression by trimming the tops early in growing was to focus the energy towards strengthening the root and bulb growth. This year is my first time growing onions. I bought some starts and did separate most of them to plant in my raised bed. They are protected with a greenhouse as we get plenty of rain in Oregon. They are doing well, but sort of in a slow growing dormant state. The tops have gotten long again and will probably trim them again soon. This year also growing walking onions for the first time! Those I planted directly from small bulbs into garden pots. Didn't need to cover them when we got a little bit of snow. They are pretty hardy. Happy Birthday Kate!! Hope you had a fabulous day!!
The trimming them to make the bulb bigger is a common thing I see on RUclips too which is why I first looked into it, but alas no. It doesn’t affect the bulb at all ☹️
I learn so much from your wonderful videos. I've actually been taking notes in a notebook titled Eli's gardening tips. I've been watching a bunch of your older videos too.
Hi Eli and Kate (in the background doing the dull job of fence painting😂) your onions look so neat at the end, I don't give mine a hair cut but I'm thinking I might now for shear tidiness 😊 I grow Ailsa Craig too although I multisow mine in clumps of 3-4 as I interplant them between my asparagus rows so I try to maximise the space. I'm glad Steve is doing well. Take care 😊
@@eliandkate Yes I know what you mean but the onion roots are fairly shallow and the asparagus is way down in the compost so they don't compete very much, or at least they haven't to date!! 🤔🥴😊
Almost eveyone i know in us/canada pots up their seedkings. Ive alsywss done it. Its exciting for sure. My onions are getting close to needing a trim, and ice managed to reisit popoing off the seed heads. I will do a short trim to get the heads off. Then a skightly larger trim and save the clippings to eat.
Eli, I Love this video!!! I just planted my onions seeds yesterday, February 4th and my peppers on January 13th. I'm so excited! I have trays just like yours and I wasn't sure how I wanted to put them up but now thanks to your video, I know what I'll do. Happy Belated Birthday, Kate!!!!!!!!!!
Another good video, Eli. Great demonstration of the potting up process. I agree with your methods and prefer to have the compost in the potting mix feed the plants too.
Happy birthday Kate! My daughter , named Kate, was born on Feb 03 also!❤ as for my onions, they are up and growing but not time to transplant yet. Your video was perfect timing, especially about the seed starting mix vs potting mix, and cutting off the seedling tops. Thanks so much!👍
Another great video thanks Eli. I can’t believe your sunshine over east we in the west (near Ayrshire coast) have got torrential rain and gusting wind. Happy birthday to Kate 🎉
Great video! I got my seedlings into mushroom trays I wished I done it into cells but this week will start more( I bpught the Aisla Craig type now and I remember you when I try to pronounce it😊) The other seedlings are prob 10cm tall have a tray on top like a mini greenhouse on my windowsill which is deep and creates a wonderful area for plants. Now I need to find a taller tray to put over because cant transplant yet. So thats my challenge I will order some bigger module trays also so I can move them in a few weeks Thanks for your videos I love your style! Greetings from an Argentinian girl leaving in Aberdeenshire
I am in Minnesota, in northern U.S.A.. I don't know how my climate compares to your's, but I started onions (first time EVER) on 02-Feb-2024. I was amazed how many seeds were in the package, so I planted about 4 times what I had planned, just to clear the package, and have another I didn't even open! I just found your channel about a week ago, and love it already! I think I subscribed after the 2nd video I saw. Keep up the GREAT videos! 👍👍, and another 👍👍 for your drink supplier!
I'm across the pond, and I too, pot up my seedlings. The VAST majority of my seeds sown, are in seed starter (Soil-less, and as you say, lacking nutrition, for the most part). well done, you!
For me, I pot up 2 times, before my pepper, tomato, cukes, zucchini, squash, etc go into their "forever home." That's Fabric Grow Bags! On Onion, I OVERSOW in a 3.5x3.5 square and then, leave them there, until I transplant outside into their 25 gallon grown bags. of 4 years growing, I have trimmed 2 years and not trimmed two. (every other to see if there is a difference) This year will be a trim. The bits I cut off? I end up using that night in whatever I am cooking!
My seeds start in the 1.5" square @@eliandkate (72 per 1020???) and then, some get up-potted to the 3.5 x 3.5 square, or some get potted to the 4 inch round. At this stage is when they get their compost, or soil mix. They grow up so fast... only too soon, we're looking at Universities for them, right? Where did the time go?!?
Interesting video as always, I’m attempting to grow giant exhibition onions at the other end of the country in Cornwall, and I was wondering whether or not to trim them, and thanks to your explanation of why you may want to do it and the fact that mine are all supported, I think I will leave them alone. So thank you for your input, very timely.
You do get much stronger plants if you have lights (if you are planting this early), but you don’t need grow lights as such. I grew them on my greenhouse bench last year with just the natural light available. They were slower than they’ve been this year but I got a great harvest in the end.
Happy Birthday Kate, fellow Aquarian. I’ve had Tricia in the Bathroom today finishing off the painting in there….. I weeded her flower beds 😊 TEAM WORK. 😊 Lovely video as always. Starting sowing tomorrow, lettuce 🥬 only as we are trying this year planting by the moon. 🌒 Have a fantastic week. Allie & Tricia 🤗
Thanks for the vid. After two weeks of storms (as you know) too much garden fencing and other stuff outside to sort when its dry. I`ve only just got the onions sown and as long as we do not have any frosts I will leave them under some bubble wrap in the greenhouse. 16c during the day in the greenhouse when the sun comes out so here`s hoping they germinate.
Wow, never heard of trimming the top of onions before! Can defo see how it might benefit the little plants. Eli, can I ask you a couple of questions please: 1) are these seed trays from Huw Richards or are they the Charles Dowding ones? 2) would you mind sharing your recipe for your seed mix as well as your potting mix? Looks lovely and fluffy 3) your pepper seedlings are sooooo much more advanced than mine (sowed my King of the North on 11th January and true leaves are only just starting to emerge). I’ve got them under growlights (got Spider Farm lights for Christmas), but wondering if they’re placed too close, or perhaps too far from the seedlings? they’re suspended about 10-15 cm from the top of the seedlings. I’m starting to wonder if this might be the reason why they turned a purplish colour 🤔 4) Shouldn’t it be YOU bringing Kate a cuppa, since it’s HER birthday and the work she’s doing outside looks far more thirst inducing? 😁
So the module trays are from any company called containerwise and you can get them on their website. This is the company both Huw and Charles get their module trays from which they then sell. My mixes are both shared in various videos about it from the last couple of years, try this one: ruclips.net/video/ciEYhwaiiqo/видео.htmlsi=CLmeSm9_WJSh-KDk 3. Lights, obviously it’ll depend on the strength of your lights but I generally have mine about 3 inches above the plant. If the tips of the leaves start to go yellow then the light is too close.
Really enjoying the grow along, my peppers were down the same day as yours… I’ve completely neglected my onions mind but thankfully still time to sow again 😂
Good evening, started my sowing of onions on the 1st & 18th January unfortunately for me i don't have a greenhouse or even a garden for that but have a small balcony. My onion stems are around 4-5" have just moved each into biodegradable pots and if this is the correct way potting them into large buckets/planters when the time comes. What do you think??. Thank you for your video. This is my first year growing. Andy
Trimming the tops also gets rid of the seed shells on top too. I prefer to trim onions at least 3 times twice inside and once outside. Do you trim roots when planting out?
@@eliandkategot them a few years ago and love them. The heavy duty trays are useful also for many things. Have to keep a close eye 👁️ on them when I share the crop, others like them as well😅.
Pfft lol I need to trim. But I learned last year.. we have such strong winds here in Sask Canada my tops we 3ft high so with them so big and luscious as well as interfering with my other plants they got haircuts ever time there were a foot to 2ft tall. I the dehydrated them all I had so many jars of chives but the bulbs hardly go big. My garden was big and luscious but my yield was none to some yield. We had a cool summer cool nights every night and the day we had some very hot days but mostly beautiful cool days 😊 but the nights were constantly cold so not sure what was happening so going to try something a bit different with my soil and just plant as only do some companion planting and plant more herbs and flowers that keep the nasties away. So many aphids last year and with a mild winter we are looking at drought this year. Won't be a boring gardening year that's for sure.
@@eliandkate ahhh thanks for the prompt reply. I think I’m gonna give it a go. Also, I’m going to do an experiment, having watched your pinching out video. Half I’m going to pinch out and half I’m going to leave. They’re not nearly as far on as yours, as I didn’t sow anything until the end of Feb. Also they will be outdoors because I have to give my greenhouse over to aubergines and cucumbers. And it’s only a standard 7x5 😂 Great content as always! 😃👍
W❤W ... your seedlings look amazing .... my peppers aren't doing very good at all ... Do you definitely put your success down to the Vitapod & the grow lamps ? 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Happy belated birthday Kate... all the best for the new year 🎉❤ hope you had a wonderful day ❤ Do you protect your onion seedlings once you plant them out??? I had twice the problem that the blackbirds pull them out . And no, I still have not started any seeds.
Happy birthday Kate. 😊 Great video Eli. Thank you lovely. Just a wee question. I've got my onions in a heated propagator in the greenhouse and they've germinated. However I'm about to start sweet pepper seeds in the same propagator. However they need a much higher temp to germinate. Will the onion seedlings struggle in the increased temperature and if so, can they be left in the unheated greenhouse?
It’d be better to take them out the heated propagator if you are about to crank the heat but I’d give the onions a wee bit of protection… maybe a standard propagator lid for just now.
I think I must have read somewhere that onion sets were (kind of) frost hardy so I shoved mine outside last November - and they are alive I think (at the moment). And I put them in too deep but hey I'm a beginner.😂
Yeah sets are hardy and a lot of them are meant to go out in winter (here anyway), seedlings aren’t quite as hardy, wouldn’t quite cope with winter but will manage early spring here
Great video Eli. One question - Won't the onion roots be too tangled up to separate them when you want to put them out in the beds? Also Happy Belated Birthday Kate 🎉

Kale and land cress usually do fine over winter for us, good hardy plants.
You’re a brave woman heating your greenhouse, it’ll cost a fortune
Thermostat keeping above freezing, brave hmm? More likely daft 🤣
😂😂😂😂
It is so exciting to plant seeds and see seedlings coming out! There is nothing like it! I love seeing Kate in the background quietly painting! Love the story of Steve. Thank you for explaining so clearly about onion trimming! 😘🌸💕
I think seedling time is prob the most smiley feel good time of year :D
Another classic one-liner from Eli … “don’t give them a crew cut” 😂
😂 to be fair…. Its true though 😂😂😂
72 yrs, but I am still learning - I started my onions & peppers just before you did - grow lights indoors, no heat mats. I would guess your seedlings are at least a week ahead of mine. Just worth noting..Thank you for these teaching videos, Eli. Happy Birthday, Kate! 🎉
Quite possible, being able to provide specific temperatures for the “soil” really speeds up germination
I pot up from trays to 4” individual pots because I start more than I need (in separate pots I can give some away). 🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE! ❤ I love your Steve ❤ I trimmed my onion tops when they were 5 inches tall, potted them up 2 weeks later and will move them to the greenhouse to make space for the next seeds to start in the house. Onions love the cold weather in the greenhouse and get planted into garden beds in late May.
I’m just a wee bit ahead of you in being able to get my onions out in April
@@eliandkate Sometimes we get hit with snow in April so I’ll pace myself. If I can get them out, I will, but I have a week off in May this year to really get gardens/pots beautiful because I’m throwing myself. Garden birthday party in May. I want it to look lovely for guests! :)
Oh sounds fab!!!!!
On yersel Kate. Time waits for no man.. holding the fort ❤😂 we all know who keeps it all going mate..
Only kidding Eli 🙄😆😂
thanks - I will try that this year - I am growing Red Baron and Sturon, purple spring onions and pink shallots from seed. The best tomato for me is Apero, I also grow Sungold and Gardeners Delight.
Love the staging that goes across the greenhouse as a potting bench Eli. Such a great idea. I see you have been cracking the whip and got Kate out there painting the fences lol. Happy birthday Kate. It's not stopped raining here for weeks. really could do with some sun, might help me move this flu and chest infection I have, unless its covid.
Oh Tony not covid again 😢
I think you need to start living in your respirator gear!
Same here, had rain every day for ages and we’re still getting the wind
Can’t wait for some sunshine and warmth…
Happy birthday Kate, great video eli ❤❤ xx
Just getting my 1st greenhouse built on end of renovated potting shed her in Nova Scotia canada. I’m learning lots from your current and past videos. Thank you
Awwww that’s fab to here
Glad we’re part of your exciting adventure
🐝 Thanks for the great video 🌻 Happy BD !! 🥳 Little peper STEVE is back!!! 🥰
He is 😃
I'm here in the Southeast part of the US, and sounds like we do pretty much the same thing as far as the starting mix goes.
Can't wait to see more Eli and Kate videos.
woah, sounds like you are going to have a busy and very productive season :D :D :D
It doesn’t affect the bulb at all ☹️
Happy belated Birthday Kate hope you had a good one .
Happy belated birthday Kate!
My peppers are'nt doing anything yet ✊
HAHA I get excited about potting up too! 🎉🌱
👏👏👏👏👏
I learn so much from your wonderful videos. I've actually been taking notes in a notebook titled Eli's gardening tips. I've been watching a bunch of your older videos too.
Ah…. I actually give you guys that advice in my journaling video. Not sure if you’ve seen that one yet. 😁
@@eliandkate Yes, I have thank you.
That's the reason I started one. It's such a great idea.
❤ watching your videos so helpful and happy birthday Kate 🎉
Happy birthday, Kate! (From a fellow Aquarian 😊)
Take care 😊
I'm never brave enough for interplanting, I always worry I'll over do it :D
@@eliandkate Yes I know what you mean but the onion roots are fairly shallow and the asparagus is way down in the compost so they don't compete very much, or at least they haven't to date!! 🤔🥴😊
Seeds purchased but not sown yet. We are loving the new format ladies, keeping it simple but informative! Happy Birthday Kate!
Oh exciting…. What you sowing??
Even I'm a bit late.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE 🙂
Hi just found your channel, I'm a first time gardener for Cardiff UK. I have subscribed to your channel and looking forward to following 😀❤
Yay welcome to our gang Annette 👏
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 bring on those little seedlings!!!
Another good video, Eli. Great demonstration of the potting up process. I agree with your methods and prefer to have the compost in the potting mix feed the plants too.
We could even argue it’s easier and less work 😂😂😂
Happy birthday Kate! My daughter , named Kate, was born on Feb 03 also!❤ as for my onions, they are up and growing but not time to transplant yet. Your video was perfect timing, especially about the seed starting mix vs potting mix, and cutting off the seedling tops. Thanks so much!👍
Oh that’s a great coincidence
Another great video thanks Eli. I can’t believe your sunshine over east we in the west (near Ayrshire coast) have got torrential rain and gusting wind. Happy birthday to Kate 🎉
Oh we have the wind, not quite torrential rain but plenty lol
Happy Birthday, Kate! 🥂🎂
Great video! I got my seedlings into mushroom trays I wished I done it into cells but this week will start more( I bpught the Aisla Craig type now and I remember you when I try to pronounce it😊)
The other seedlings are prob 10cm tall have a tray on top like a mini greenhouse on my windowsill which is deep and creates a wonderful area for plants. Now I need to find a taller tray to put over because cant transplant yet. So thats my challenge
I will order some bigger module trays also so I can move them in a few weeks
Thanks for your videos
I love your style!

Happy birthday Kate 🎉
I am in Minnesota, in northern U.S.A.. I don't know how my climate compares to your's, but I started onions (first time EVER) on 02-Feb-2024. I was amazed how many seeds were in the package, so I planted about 4 times what I had planned, just to clear the package, and have another I didn't even open! I just found your channel about a week ago, and love it already! I think I subscribed after the 2nd video I saw. Keep up the GREAT videos! 👍👍, and another 👍👍 for your drink supplier!
Oh I did the same thing the other year and ended up with hundred 😂😂😂
I see Kate is still painting the fence, at least it isn't snowing.......🤣😂🤣
ha ha ha that's what she said!
Just the one part of the fence to go and it's all done for this year
I started gardening with my parents when I was 8 years old... that was 62 years ago... the only fertilizer I have ever used is fish... real fish...
Happy Birthday Kate! 🎂🎁🎉💐😊🎉🍹🍹
🥰🥰
Just in time and great tips! as I didn't get a chance t pot my onions up at the weekend. Lovin this grow along! My onions are dramatic lol
they so are!!!!! Don't let them bully you!!!!
I’ve never counted how often I pot up so now I’m eager to see if my guess was right
My seeds start in the 1.5" square @@eliandkate (72 per 1020???) and then, some get up-potted to the 3.5 x 3.5 square, or some get potted to the 4 inch round. At this stage is when they get their compost, or soil mix. They grow up so fast... only too soon, we're looking at Universities for them, right? Where did the time go?!?
😂😂😂😂
I hope you started a massive college fund for that lot!!!
LOL!, @@eliandkate
I just hope my seedlings get good jobs to keep me in the style I am accustomed!
You make it look as easy ha I have figured you out the wood table across is just to get Kate to brew up ha but I can't get out 😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂 Kate says she thinks that’s the case too
Traumatic little sods 😄 accurate description lol Fab catch up thanks. Happy Birthday Kate x

Good to hear about your King of the North. All my peppers have sprouted except for my king of the North. I shall give them a wee bit more time!
They were the slowest for me and a few of the folk growing along too so you might see germination yet
Great video. Thank you. Happy belated birthday Kate :)
Thanks so much! 😊
Glad to help
I know there’s a lot of questions about it in the uk
Sowing onions tomorrow! Bought too many seeds... as usual. Your videos are rays of sunshine during the very cold winter months here in Québec!
Oh I bet it’s proper chilly with you!
You don’t want to hear about our 10c ? 🤪
The size on those onions already 😮😅. Great informative video 👍, Happy Birthday Kate 🎉🎉
They’re doing alright 😃😃😃😃
Get a gloss roller, makes painting the fence easier xxxx
Great video thanks I can’t seem to grow onions from seed. Could it be because I don’t have grow lights? Claire Bristol UK
Have a fantastic week.

I’m starting some lettuce this week too, started eating the stuff in the greenhouse so need to get some more down 😃😃😃
Kate! Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Kate 🎉
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the vid.
After two weeks of storms (as you know) too much garden fencing and other stuff outside to sort when its dry. I`ve only just got the onions sown and as long as we do not have any frosts I will leave them under some bubble wrap in the greenhouse. 16c during the day in the greenhouse when the sun comes out so here`s hoping they germinate.
Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞
Wow, never heard of trimming the top of onions before! Can defo see how it might benefit the little plants. Eli, can I ask you a couple of questions please:
1) are these seed trays from Huw Richards or are they the Charles Dowding ones?
2) would you mind sharing your recipe for your seed mix as well as your potting mix? Looks lovely and fluffy
3) your pepper seedlings are sooooo much more advanced than mine (sowed my King of the North on 11th January and true leaves are only just starting to emerge). I’ve got them under growlights (got Spider Farm lights for Christmas), but wondering if they’re placed too close, or perhaps too far from the seedlings? they’re suspended about 10-15 cm from the top of the seedlings. I’m starting to wonder if this might be the reason why they turned a purplish colour 🤔
4) Shouldn’t it be YOU bringing Kate a cuppa, since it’s HER birthday and the work she’s doing outside looks far more thirst inducing? 😁
So the module trays are from any company called containerwise and you can get them on their website. This is the company both Huw and Charles get their module trays from which they then sell.
My mixes are both shared in various videos about it from the last couple of years, try this one: ruclips.net/video/ciEYhwaiiqo/видео.htmlsi=CLmeSm9_WJSh-KDk
3. Lights, obviously it’ll depend on the strength of your lights but I generally have mine about 3 inches above the plant. If the tips of the leaves start to go yellow then the light is too close.
Thanks for taking the time to answer Elie x
I trim my onions all the time zone 3 canada
Where did you get the module trays from please Eli? Fantastic video.👌 Happy Birthday Kate.🎂🥂🍾

Happy birthday Kate. Sproutlings are looking excellent Eli.

Really enjoying the grow along, my peppers were down the same day as yours… I’ve completely neglected my onions mind but thankfully still time to sow again 😂
Still loads of time 👏👏👏
Love these "routine jobs" videos, Eli 🙂
That’s 90% of gardening, just some chores are more fun than others 😂
I just transplanted a 6 pack of peppers plants unfortunately I didn’t label them. It will be a big surprise especially the hot pepper
Oh that could be dangerous if they are all chillies…. But like roulette 😂😂
Eli I didn’t see any video on you planting the onions in the bed. 😢 Did you have one?
If you mean last year… I don’t know if I did one. Maybe got planted on a week when I did another video 😃
I found and bought King of the North this year!
Yay!!!!!!!!
Lordy - I haven’t started sowing yet. I need to get my game on
There’s no rush, don’t you worry.
I just decided to get an early start this year 😃
Beautiful pepper seedlings. I’ve no grow lights so I sow them in March 🤷♀️
March isn’t long away now 👏👏😁
I'm so happy to see you potting up. Very excited for this year's growing.
I’m starting to get quite excited too…. More seeds to sow 👏👏👏
No I tend not to but that doesn’t mean I won’t if they are annoying 😂😂😂
Happy Birthday Kate!!
Awwwwwww 🥰
Hi Eli
Good you advise where you sourced the reusable seedling and potting on containers illustrated in your video please
Mine are from a uk company called containerwise, you can buy them for their website
So kind again. You are always very giving. Thank you. Hope you and Kate are well. Keep up the great content
You get lovely ones in the states from bootstrap farmer that I’d love…. All in bright colours
Onions the Divas of the vegetable garden 😂
😂😂😂😂😂 they are absolute divas
Hi, just wondering where you got those black pot/trays from, I really struggle getting seedlings out of pots and you make it look so easy
They are from a UK company called containerwise, you can get them on their website
Happy Birthday Kate! Awesome video as always. Can I ask, do you use grow lights for your chillies and onions? Thanks :)
I do indeed…. If you check the video from earlier in Jan you’ll get the full story
@@eliandkate Thank you! Somehow completely missed that video! Excellent :D
@zombryn bonus…. Unexpected video bonus
Your seedlings look great. How long will you need to keep them indoors under the grow lights? Happy Birthday Kate!
It’ll depend on how big they get but prob won’t be putting them out in the greenhouse till April at the earliest
Hi Eli and Kate, just watched this. Would you do the same with leeks at that size? Do you even grow leeks? 😂
We don’t grow leeks but it’s the same principle… you could totally do this with leeks
And it’s only a standard 7x5 😂
Great content as always! 😃👍
W❤W ... your seedlings look amazing .... my peppers aren't doing very good at all ...
Do you definitely put your success down to the Vitapod & the grow lamps ? 😊😊😊😊😊😊
We’ll hear and lights, not necessarily the vitopod 😃
Happy belated birthday Kate... all the best for the new year 🎉❤ hope you had a wonderful day ❤
Do you protect your onion seedlings once you plant them out???
I had twice the problem that the blackbirds pull them out . And no, I still have not started any seeds.
We went out for a lovely dinner 🥰🥰
Oh that sounds nice. You have been to fast for me today.. I had forgotten to ask about the onions. 😊
So have nets over my beds so no problems with the birds for me 😃
Hi, where do you get your rigid sowing modules from? Im a new subscriber and loving your videos
They are from containerwise. You can get them on their website
You got spring already? I still got about 2 feet of snow here in Norway :)
It’s probably like spring for you… 7c today
Happy birthday Kate. 😊
Great video Eli.
Hi Eli, why does my compost fall apart every time I push out my seedlings? Should I water before or let them dry first? Thanks so much xx
Try watering a little bit before and that might help. Either that or there’s not enough of a root system to hold it together.
I think I must have read somewhere that onion sets were (kind of) frost hardy so I shoved mine outside last November - and they are alive I think (at the moment). And I put them in too deep but hey I'm a beginner.😂
Yeah sets are hardy and a lot of them are meant to go out in winter (here anyway), seedlings aren’t quite as hardy, wouldn’t quite cope with winter but will manage early spring here
Thank you , great video
Can you tell me where you got your cell trays. They look strong and sturdy.
They are from containerwise
@@eliandkate
Thanks v much for reply. Have a great week x
Great video Eli. One question - Won't the onion roots be too tangled up to separate them when you want to put them out in the beds? Also Happy Belated Birthday Kate 🎉
They might be tangled a bit, but I’ll be able to derange most of them with the water trick:)
They are pretty easy to shake apart and onions are quite forgiving. Or Eli’s water trick also works.
