1:44 became outdated not even a year after this video came out, because as we all know, the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2021 AFC Wild Card Game, which was their first postseason victory since the 1990 AFC Wild Card Game victory. They then defeated the Tennessee Titans and the two-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs to make it to Super Bowl LVI, where they lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Los Angeles Rams, who were playing in their home stadium SoFi Stadium.
A week earlier, after the Bengals fell to 0-6 with a 35-23 loss to Dallas, Wyche actually compared himself to Clarence Thomas, who was undergoing those controversial confirmation hearings. Wyche said "the judge is going through some things on a larger scale that I go through on a mini-scale."
As someone who spent 1991 living in Indiana, I can confirm that not only did the Colts score just 55 points in 7 games, but that it was surprising that they scored that many.
I was in the end zone that night in Orchard Park. Was wondering why Sam Wyche blew a gasket. That play turned the game into a rout. The Bengals just imploded and haven’t been the same since.
I was at that game as well, I was in the tunnel end zone side. I remember Kelly throwing 3 picks and the Bengals only getting 3 points out of it. But I honestly didn't remember Wyche's meltdown; watching this video showed me it was in the opposite end zone, and there may have been distractions in my end zone.

The story I heard was that when he threw the gum it hit a woman who actually was going to charge Ditka with assault. This was a thing that almost happened.
I think that Boomer Esiason 84-92. And Cris Collinsworth 81-88 having such short Cincinnati careers at the same time was really rough on the franchise. Nit to mention Ickey Wiods

Bills fan here, but man I loved Sam Wyche. And I don't think I saw this (wasn't allowed to stay up til midnight on a school night at age 7), so I love getting things I didn't know about this era filled in for me.
And then in their next MNF game that season, Wyche ordered his team to cheap shot Miami's kicker, which resulted in Bryan Cox challenging the entire Bengals sideline to a fight (none of them took him up on it tellingly enough) which resulted in a Bengals player dragging a Miami DB by his facemask out of bounds on what should've been a routine sideline tackle shortly afterwards, all while Wyche just stood there doing nothing as his players laughed and high fived each other during a 24-point loss.
Wyche wasn't just irritated with that game, where the Bengals loss was mostly self-inflicted; it was a manifestation of the entire season up to that point, and ultimately, frustration that Mike Brown--not Paul Brown--would be calling the shots in the front office. You want to know when the Bengals fortunes began to take a turn for the worst? When Mike Brown became the owner. They've had some really good teams from the mid-to-late 2000's to the mid-teens, but they've never quite been to the level of the 80's since MB started writing the paychecks.
@@wanyelewis9667 Definitely not a coincidence. I remember watching the '91 Bengals and at the time, I was shocked about how awful they were. Mike Brown hasn't really helped the franchise's fortunes much. The club should've returned to its late-'80s form by now, especially while Marvin Lewis was the head coach. Knowing what I now know about how Wyche felt about Mike Brown, the former must have seen the Bengals' downturn coming and I don't blame him for feeling some type of way about Brown.
As a Buffalo Bills fan 1990 teams were awesome I was 4 years old to 7 years old and I still remember those names and I could list those names off because of my fandom
1. I’m surprised Wyche didn’t get suspended after the game, much less disqualified during the game. 2. The unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made another video about an AFC Central coach losing his mind on Monday Night Football that might have been crazier than this moment.
The Colts only scored 55 points through 6 weeks? Well, the 1977 Bucs had scored only 53 points in 12 weeks and only 103 all season with 33 of those points coming in their first ever win in week 13. Speaking of the '91 Colts, they had scored only 61 points through 9 games with 24 coming in 1 game. Their only win that year was a 1 point win over the Jets in week 11.
Yeah, but the Bucs were still trying to make themselves into some approximation of an actual NFL team. The 91 Colts had veterans, including Hall Of Famer Eric Dickerson, and still couldn't do fuckall offensively.
@@arizonawrestlinginterviews1040 Remember, the Colts had the #1 & #2 picks in the '92 draft and took 2 busts. Well, Coryatt wasn't a bust per se, he just couldn't stay healthy.
Man I remember this play. You wont find too many plays that are more CLEARLY NOT a Pass interference than this one. Even as a little kid I remember thinking how ridiculous he looked for throwing such a fit over a play that was so blatantly not a penalty.
The biggest mistake the Bengals did was let Wyche go. Yeah they had a terrible 1991 season, but from 92 to 2005 they were just utter trash and Dave Shula was utter trash. I mean Sam Wyche still has the most playoff wins in franchise history with 3.
I think this tends to happen with sports teams (and in life in general) when things don't turn out as expected and disaster comes out of nowhere. I mean, this was a Bengals team that still had most of their 1988 Super Bowl roster; it's like their players forgot how to play and became terrible players all at the same time ("Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Eddie Brown",: yeah, lots of "former" things going on with the 1991 Bengals). Sam Wyche was also the type of coach hardwired for this type of meltdown (although I think Wyche was a good man and had his moments as a coach, especially from 1984-'90). I wonder if the Bengals collapse would've occurred if Paul Brown didn't pass away, as it seemed he took all Bengals competence to his grave. In 2005, Jim Mora Jr. also had some meltdowns as his 2005 Falcons team went wayward in the second half of the season (almost hitting an official in a late-season game against the Bears, among other intense moments). I remember the Monday Night Game against the Bills, and my family lived in Kenmore, NY at the time, so we had our fair share of Bills content. The Bengals moved the ball against the Bills, but had to settle for field goals too often (Lee Johnson, in place of Jim Breech due to Johnson having a stronger leg, kicked a nifty 53-yarder though. My father liked that one:-), and they didn't capitalize on those early Jim Kelly interceptions as they could have (only 3 points). I don't think the Bengals were horrible in the game, but the Bills were simply the better team, even if they were a little off that night. Don't worry about the 1991 Colts and their low scoring through the first half: the 1992 Seahawks top that by scoring 53 and finishing with 140 (at least the Seahawks found a running game with Chris Warren, but I still feel the '92 Hawks O was the worst I've ever seen).

@@Phateagle262 Very true. The Bucs lost at least 10 games a year until the late 90s. I remember going to a few games and even at around 10-12 years old it wasn't fun sitting in the hot sun at old Tampa stadium watching crappy football.
Tampa was already entrenched as a bottom dweller. Wyche didn't win there but he did draft a Superbowl winning QB there--Trent Dilfer.
If the coach goes on the field is he ejected from the game?

Always liked Sam
Imagine if he did all that just to get the media off the team and on him. Be a smart move if that were the case.
A sad end for Wyche. They were a shell that year and due to the Greta football mind of Mike Brown, wouldn’t return to the post season for 15 years. Still haven’t won shit.
AFC Champions
I've seen better flops than that in soccer
Reads title... Now... if you want to Crown them then CROWN THEIR ASS... But the Bears ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE... AND WE LET THEM OFF THE HOOK!
Sees Sam Wyche... never mind.
Wyche took a cheap mom and pop team to the Super Bowl. Bengals did not get another good coach until Zach Taylor. WHO DEY
Hopefully that corner didn't pursue a career in acting after his 2 years in the NFL, cause that flop was as obvious as can be.
Same old storys
That was not spectacular!
Coaches running onto the field is always a hlarious disaster to watch, but my God, this is just tragic.
Who else watches at 1.5x to 2x speed?
Click bait video. It wasn't even close to being that bad.
This sounds as same Donald trump every time he open mouth.
Or Chuck Schumer
