Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these two speakers! I have had the LS50’s (original and Meta), R700’s, Ref 1’s and R7’s. What you said made a lot of sense to me in that the new R series is an easier speaker to live with in terms of placement and equipment matching. I find that the LS50’s and even more so the Ref 1’s require extra special care in terms of equipment matching and speaker placement to get the best out of them. When you do get the mix of equipment right (including subs) it can be a truly amazing experience. Thanks again and thumbs up for your video.
The Reference series is over 7 years old and will likely get an update in the next 12 months as Kef often work on an 8 year product cycle. The 2018 R series has the 12th generation of the Uni-Q driver compared to the 11th gen for the Reference series. This is what Kef wrote on their website about the improvements in the 12th gen: _"A tweeter gap damper was added to the 12th generation Uni-Q to absorb any sound escaping into the annular gap between the tweeter and the cone. The result was a much smoother high-frequency response, improving detail and clarity."_
Thank you . I wish to have listining room to fit speakers like yours , but who knows maybe it hapens in the future. What amp. You using with that speakers
Hi. What amplifier have you used reference 1 with ? These are one of the best standmount or even best in its price but to hear what the reference 1 can do they also need similar class amplifier (they won't play good with cheap amps).
Naim uniti nova , but speakets are very good , i love the bass but high frequency is just to bright for me . I like high freq.- For exampel like PMC speakers do
Hi, I listened to these speakers on an system for tens of thousands of pounds (look on video )but kef reference 1 from the previous generation I listened to my Naim uniti Nova, so I think it will be hard to compare it, it will be just not fair . But in my opinion They are more pleasant to listen to them . do not have So sharp at the top end like this previous gen on "my amp" , it's just that, in my opinion, these new speakers soundjust better
@@WitczakAudioUK Adam i think i make a mistake on my question , on the video you are listening the Kef Reference 1 but that is the Meta? @@WitczakAudioUK Thanks, so is good to know that the reference 1 have a better bass sound, so i will try listen the Kef Reference 1 Meta and with any doubt, i know it will be much better than the Reference 1 , Thanks so much!!!
Hi, How do you compare Kef Reference 1 vs Reference 1 Meta, both highs, mids and bass? Are the highs on the Reference 1 Meta fatiguing like the original Reference 1? Thanks.
I have the Reference 3’s non-meta. System matching or synergy is very important. They are very revealing speakers. I don’t find them fatiguing with my class-A amp. YMMV👍
@@WitczakAudioUK thanks 👍 I tried r3 meta today really liked thinking to get R5 or R7 extra woofer better than I don't have to pay for stands. I need amplifier as well my budget is £10.000
Have own ls50, kef r3 and reference 1.. mine was different the r3 was more in your face and harsher sound.. the reference has the deeper bass and deeper soundstage depth… i think thats your saying the reference is more brighter than your r5 because bookshelf sounds brighter than a floorstander.. you should try the refer 3 vs r5
@@Audio2384 Hi, I operated both of these speakers on other amplifiers in a different price range, so it's hard for me to say how big the difference is, but in general, in my opinion, the speakers sound similar, or at least the bass is the same, just in these new metas the treble is softer , cleaner . I not really like these old reference 1 very much, but maybe because I was connected to the wrong amplifier like my naim unity nova , while I heard the reference 1 meta on a monoblocks for £ 12,000 each and I fell in love with the sound , so it's hard for me to say if they play so differently

How did the R7’s rank out of those five?

@Tim. How right you were sir, new Reference Meta series just announced
I'm waiting for a review B&W CM1. What do u think about these small speakers?

How big is the room? Is the room treated? What shape is the room?
Thx for the video. In my experience I have never heard KEF with proper base.

hey Rechard , You've already asked me about it in a commentary under my other film- reference 1 meta 😃
Great comparison! Well done!
Which base port plug, long or short, sounded more right? Maybe please explain how both sound different from each other? Thank you.
with longer - the bass going lower but with smaller output , but overall it's up to to your room and how close to the wall speakers are

I wish the reference came on titanium/bronze instead of copper.
Maybe new metas in future . Some special edition ? Why not... will looks goodies
