I remember seeing and hearing these back at Sebring 10-12 years ago… I was a kid and my dad took me and I remember feeling my insides shake when these went past… crazy times

I just went to Sebring for the first time in my life, it was awesome. I always wanted to go but didn't have anyone to go with until this year. I wish I could have been there in the early 2000s when I was a kid!
I remeber in Le Mans when they passed, they made the earth shake. That's how we knew it was coming into the corner...

Damn, I miss these cars. You could hear them coming 3 corners away and feel them in your chest when they went by.
When the US brought NASCAR sounds to European circuits. GM still has racing teeth in them, even if the C8R doesn't sound nearly as epic.
I'll never forget seeing these cars rip around PIR in 2006. I was just a small kid and went with my dad to ALMS the last year it ever came to PIR. The noise and rumble that these beasts made at the chicane were unreal--ear-piercing, even with hearing protection in.

I remember playing GT3 as a kid and fell instantly in love with the C5R! till this day the pictures from a car fair of the new C6 are framed behind glass in my room at my parents house and I still want to buy the C6-ZR1, it's the most stupiest and funniest car you will ever get!
Love the side pipes. Like a thumping noise decelerating. Almost reminds me of the Shelby Cobras of the past.
That sound never gets old.

It was so great to see this car again at Sebring this year. Hope they will return. Both my boys love the sound.
I had the pleasure once to be invited into the pitbox of the Belgian Selleslagh Racing team. Stood beside the C6R GT1 when it started up. You feel it in your gut when you stand close to these beasts.
I've heard a lot of badass sounding V8's in my life, this is the first car I've ever heard powered by THUNDER!!!!!
I remember one time at the Detroit GP, one of these cars passed underneath a bridge I was walking on. Basically felt like an earthquake and couldn’t hear for a half hour.
Sounds better than anything anyone in Europe has ever made.
I didn't see the comments, I didn't see the notes, the second turn it was taking I thought "This looks like Sebring" and literally the next shot had the bridge sign.
All those years of Forza Motorsport have trained my eyes well

Sweet Gran Touring Corvette 👍 The C6 ZR-1 was my favorite.
I was on the outside of Turn 1,inside of Turn 2 at Mosport for the Weather Tech series. We had to go to the pits and buy ear plugs. First time I've had to do that. These cars are so loud it hurt my ears.
I do enjoy the sounds though.

I went mid ohio in 06 and 07 and remember how let down I was when they switched to gt2. They were so loud in gt1 not only did you get that thumping in your chest they made your ears ring like you had just shot a gun. In gt2 they lost that effect.
Reminds me of that yellow Corvette that had that awesome battle (and crash) with the Flying Lizard Porsche 911 at Leguna Seca

Of all time? The 911 nameplate has won so many races, class wins, and championship that it's the hardest car to collect the data. It's the most race successful production car... You mentioned one model of a Corvette right? So to be fair the early 70s RSRs, 935, and 935 k3 was more dominative then the C6.R. The McLaren GTRs were very dominant as well..I'm sure I'm missing more
@@MiguelGarcia-vj7oo I believe he meant for the time that the C6.R was used. It was extremely dominant. Only competition being in the Le Mans series against the DBR9’s.

They wouldn’t do it if it weren’t faster. Race cars aren’t designed to sound pretty. They design engines to win races, which the C8 does.

So glad I was able to see the GT1 Vettes in action while they were in ALMS.
Same, I was 8 when this car was kicking ass. The C5.R is the car that made me love racing when it won GTS at Mosport, the C6.R is the first car that I was able to follow the whole span of competition. The Audi R8 is worth mentioning too because it won overall at the same Mosport race.

Cars 2 be Like
The C6.R for the GT1 races was at the pinnacle of performance for the Vettes in my personal opinion. Nothing else ever quite got as close to these levels of performance as a GT racecar.
What a BEAST
Anyone know how many of these yellow Compuware Corvettes there are? I've seen a #64 one at Road America several times over the years and wondering if it might be the same one, just with a different number? Or if there are in fact quite a few in existence.

I’ve been a race fan for 41 years & in that time no race car regardless of which racing series F1, WEC, Indycar or whatever put such a smile on my face like a Corvette did. I first heard this magnificent car at Le Mans in 2012 & it was love for me. I really didn’t care if it was the quickest car or not the noise it made or as I called it “Corvette Thunder” just did it for me.

I am pretty sure I was there. I was walking in pits when it started and it scared me lol. I sat at T3-T5 complex on race start and you could hear it go around the entire track. It really made that race fun lol. I just waited for it every lap=)

God this beast was one of the greats. Its sounds are the definition of pissed of metal. Car sounds like it was summoned not built.
