I missed this one when you published. For me, there's a logical nature to buying gold. It's just easier to accumulate than cash savings because there's more emotional satisfaction - so I'm more likely to stick to it, or at least I was in the less disciplined years. You touched on learned behavior - we know about the Egyptians, the Romans, the Vikings, the Saxons, the Mongols, the Spanish, the Nazis, etc. - gold was a primary motivator behind every conquest we've ever read about. We've learned to recognize it as wealth, and we want some. I think there's something inherent as well. There's a primal attraction beyond the romantic notion. Maybe the microbiota in us likes the stuff. Maybe it's passed along as instinct. Maybe our lizard brains just like the color of the sun metal. It has a mysterious magnetic quality that will pull you in and an addictive quality to make you want more. That comes from more than reading about it. Whatever it is, I like it. 🤩 Great video, Vert!

This is the comment I was waiting for. A real self-analysis, if you will, of the real reasons we do what we do. You’re right, whatever it is, it comes from more than just a good read! Thank you for thinking about this.

Couldn't have said it any better. Saving cash and just having it readily and easily available makes it a lot harder to save. Saving in the way of gold not only makes it easier to actually save but as you said it is definitely satisfying and makes you work harder to try and obtain as much gold as you can.

Honestly, I stack gold because owning it gives me a sense of hope and security about my financial future. We live in a society where the more money you have, the more comfortable your lifestyle will be. I'm not rich, and probably never will be. However, stacking both gold, and silver (real money) has made me more financially free. I no longer have to worry (as much) about unexpected, financial emergencies. I can liquidate some of my stack, if necessary, to see me through. That gives me peace, which in my opinion, is priceless! Stack On!

My friend I absolutely 100% have no desire to be like or emulate any of the “upper” class of Hollywood etc etc…., in some ways you could say that those people you have described are more like the “lower” class. Success is subjective, and can only be quantified by an individuals view thereof. I totally understand your theoretical analogy in this video though and can only say that for me personally I collect gold and silver because I am a stubborn and an independent individual. I don’t want to rely on anyone (friends or family) or any entity (government) if some situation happens where society or rule of law falters. Call it preparedness, call it doomsday prophecy, whatever…..the fact is having cash, precious metals, food and water, guns and ammo, and medical supplies are those types of things that when you need them its way to late to go out and get them.

I’ve never really considered that aspect of stacking, but I can absolutely see your point. I was born and raised “middle class”. The majority of my entire family was middle class or somewere in the lower middle class. I decided at a very young age that I wasn’t going to live my life from paycheck to paycheck. When I first discovered the benefits of holding precious metals, I had an epiphany (for lack of a better word). I guess I view it as a safety net for the present and a way to give my grandkids a jumpstart in life (if they ever need one) that I never had. I agree that ANYTHING is only worth what someone is willing to pay. It seems that newer generations have less interest in PMs, but there is still some kind of instinctual draw to gold. I'm banking that when people lose confidence in fiat dollars that gold will gain favor again by the masses and will gain a LOT of value. Yes, I admit it, owning gold makes me feel like I have "made it". I have enough money to join the wealthy in owning gold - even if I only own 20 ounces. I was so poor when I was young and when I was in school I couldn't afford a sandwich the day before payday. Holding some gold coins makes me feel like I have less chance of ever being that poor again. One of the first things I did when I got a good job was to buy some silver dollars and a 1/4oz gold coin - that was 1990. Now I wish I had made a yearly habit of PM purchases back then - it took the recession of 2008 to really get me stacking.

    • @DrSchor

to you, owning gold really just means you know you can always buy a sandwich. 40K worth of gold hardly makes you wealthy. In the USA, the chance of people losing faith in the dollar is low, because Americans are banking on our nuclear subs and aircraft carriers to back our fiat currency.
