One of the coolest things about 1:00 is you can hear Leo’s sax and his sax on the speakers at the same time with very little delay in between, gives me chills.
Kevin, I noticed that, too. Gave it such a rich, full rounded out sound, and also let some of the “growl” shine through. I was lucky enough to catch Phish play there, two nights back in 1995. Knowing how much of a special venue it is, it was cool to see him appreciate it, and soak it all in, running around all the rows of people. If his playing doesn’t elicit a smile from people, then they are dead inside.
I've seen him live in Montreal Jazz Festival. It was 35 Celsius 42 with humidity, I was sweating balls just by standing still and this man, this LEGEND, was on stage going nuts.
He's incredible! It would be interesting to see what kind of training routine he might use to be able to do this. The run across the stage and no noticeable loss of tone. Holy cow! Hope this kid entertains us for years to come. I've never seen anything quite like this. He's like an elite athlete but with a barry sax.
Yup! Crazy, eh? That's called Altissimo. Used to play back in the day. It's not fun attempting to play so high, you don't have a standardized way to hit the note. It can be rather difficult. To do it, it's all embouchure (the "seal" around the mouthpiece)and the position and control of his jaw and muscles in the mouth. That, and a good ear. Playing classical we had to learn to do it for a few select songs and in jazz band, but Leo here is damn good at it and very practiced. That's how he can hit notes that aren't standard on a bari sax and play ridiculously high. He also frequently uses other techniques like "growling" where you basically hum while you play and it gives it a gravely sort of tone. Yes, it's hard to move that much and sound decent. I kinda wanna dust off my instrument now after talking about it. : |
As always, Leo, you kill it with your footwork and moves that go perfectly well with your playing style. You nail that little thing called, "stage presence". Kudos, dude, kudos.
To say nothing of coming from sea level (NYC) and doing it at 6,500' altitude. I saw him/them play at The Fillmore in Denver and he never stopped dancing and playing. A solid 90 minute set.
I follow Leo since Lucky Chops. I admire him, he has so good technique and style. Neverthless I loud like to listen to him playing jazz, or at least, see how fast his head goes in the art of improvisation, and how much creative he is. He uses a lot the basic pentatonic scale. This is not a critic. Its a challenge. He is so talented that I think he could do something different
Leo is one of if not the best berie sax players of all time I’ve been playing berie for a while and I struggle to get to some of the note he can get to he played a contrabass sax and it was great
Bari* and yeah it just takes loads of practice and I’ve been playing two years and I can get all the regular register and some altissimo notes out. Just keep on pushing and practicing.
This is one of the most badass things I've ever seen. I gotta get my hands on the effect that makes it sound like a bass is playing along with his every note.
I am happy to see my GTA 5 character is living his musician life
Dude, I thought the same thing!
🤣
LOL You win the internet.

Thanks for ur comment, I thought it was a bass player there until I read ur comment
Super sick improv player who always entertains. Legend in the making.
Dude has played with Beyoncé, he’s already a legend!
He's already a legend, now he's on his way to elder god status
@@KetchupRocket You mean that Beyonce played with Leo.
One of the best nights of my life. I’m the guy with the loud laugh and the silly yellow hat at 1:10 😂
You were my favorite haha, came to see if someone mentioned you. I was like “the guy is purely enjoying himself” haha
You're really good with a slinky

Leo P’s cardiorespiratory fitness is truly marvelous!!

Are we just going to ignore the fact that he is playing this at over 6000ft elevation while running up and down the stairs?
And playing with vandoren 4 reeds

He is also runs daily so
I wonder if he even noticed it. This guy has got lungs that would put anyone to shame.
As someone who lives at 6000 feet, its.... its... not hard...
When you can jog and play saxophone at same time. You kno u got some lungs on ya. And also I cant believe the range he gets on that

marching band
the running and playing is honestly a standard marching band thing but yeah he has stamina
Brandon Jones he does overtones not altissimo while they have similarities they’re different and that’s not altissimo
Marching band kids have left the chat
I was sad I missed this set, but then I got to meet Leo P right afterwards! Everything for a reason.. thanks for sharing!
Glad to see my Sims character took that saxophone master class. Love that he is enjoying life.

The first thing he played sounded like the opener to moanin'
Yeah I agree
Look for Leo P at the proms, you won't be disappointed
Sounded like a rendition of In the mood by Glenn Miller
@@jrlomy2k that one is slightly pushing it but I can somewhat agree
I see where u are coming from but from someone whos seen Leo P's rendition of Moanin over a million times it really isnt the same.
LOVE Leo’s OWN musical style and the fact he CAN fully swing but doesn’t do it all the time like most others do.
2:22 When you’re running late for the train trying to get that last bit of practice in.
1 Bari Sax + 1 Drummer = Full band
Absolutely mad skill.
Bravo 👏
Absolutely mad skills.

I’ve seen quite a lot of Bari sax players, nothing like this.
Playing so low notes and right after the high ones is not so easy I can say, imagine doing it jumping and running on stairs.. Leo is a legend 💪
This guy's not only a musician but also an athlete. You can't play and run like that without having insane amounts of cardio resistance.
To say nothing of coming from sea level (NYC) and doing it at 6,500' altitude. I saw him/them play at The Fillmore in Denver and he never stopped dancing and playing. A solid 90 minute set.
So much swagger while playing the sax hands down the best entertainer on that instrument out there!
I feel honored to also be named Leo
What a fabulous surprise in my YT inbox! ♡Love Leo P!♡ Thanks!
Nice improv as always Leo, drummer is crazy too, thanks for upload :)
