As always, a fantastic talk. I am 27 and from central Mississippi, a southern state many believe glued to the past. I will be launching a podcast soon speaking the lingo of us southerners, the well spoken folks like Sam Harris and Yuval do not translate or sell well to folks over here who still believe in God, but crave to not be left behind. We need immerisive content to help people prepare for and actually remodel themselves for the 21st Century. I believe as a lay person who understands this intellectually heavy content from our leading thinkers, I can help translate it to practical applications and knowledge for folks here in my area of the world. Also physical engagement will be of utmost importance. A global coalition must be birthed at a local level first. Keep the enriching information coming Yuval, i am all ears and enjoy listening to you speak!

Dude I LOVE this idea so much. I have had literally this exact thought - how do we translate Yuval's amazing speeches to people who are engrained in entirely different cultures / mindsets. I'm also from the US and technically from the South, and have had similar concerns that these important issues are completely lost on people in the South who already feel left behind (and yet may be impacted very harshly as a result of technological changes ahead). I love your idea so much that if you started a patreon or something, I would seriously donate to you a bit just to help. Whatever we can do to get more people educated and thinking critically and involved in this conversation, the more it helps us all have a chance. We have HUGE problems on the horizon as a species and most people seem to have barely a clue as to what is coming. We need everyone working together to figure out solutions, whether it's UBI, or overhauling capitalism, or whatever makes the most sense. We need to wake people up before it's too late, so that their voices can be a part of a global and educated and cooperative debate. Cooperation is the key word here - forget all this "America first" brainwashing, we need a "Survival of Human Species First" policy and we need to get the average person everywhere on board! Anyway, I love your idea and I REALLY hope you do it. You could make a serious impact here man and we need more people like you to stand up and say something. Every single decision matters as the road is dire ahead.... Seriously, keep me posted if you make this happen!!!

      e-rambler,
The answer to the question how to reach people
in your area of the world who still believe more in
God and His omnipotence than in the coming
real AI God, how to reach these people, is not
      very difficult to answer.
You do it according to a method that has been
tried and tested for ages. You take the existing,
you transform it, you give your adapted new gospel
the right swirl, hype and modernity. That is, just
as the voodoo faith remained with these believers
after the Christianization, so you leave the people
in your area their faith in God and his omnipotence.
But you change it and adapt it to your ideas. That
has always worked in the past. That's how the Jews
with the older Egyptian content came out. Just as
then the Christian one emerged from the Jewish
one. And the Islamic from old desert faith. And the
Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses from the
Christian. And so on. To do that, of course, a high
art is required. At least you need a charismatic
      spirit, a stirring leader.

@@silberlinie Interesting. AI will not be the God. We, humans, we are the ape-Gods who will merge with AI (Neural Lace) and modify our bods, say with machine parts and genetic control/editing. We will simply become more powerful. Those who see themselves for what they are will have power beyond measure, those who cannot will suffer. Take all the past and current sh*t going on and amplify that - and that is the future. A wild, wild west of Space. I do agree one way to reach folks is with a novel twist on ancient stories. However, I am perfectly happy to let some folks remain in the ruts they remain in, because I am not going to play game of thrones with stories and old ideas. I am interested in a real-life, practical assessment of our situation and every-moment, everyday solutions and bridges. There will always be some left behind, the goal for me is helping those who want better and will do what it takes, learn whateves and be dynamically skilled for moment-noticed changes. Its complicated to explain in a short text reply on YT, but I think the jist of what I am saying will ring some bells. Ultimately, my aim is the WH with a new architecture of modern Democratic representative government. The overwhelming change required will demand a coalition of global citizens properly aligned for the realities of our new era. Together, a majority of us can launch Humanity in the Space Age on a solid footing. New problems are welcome.

Let us not hack the mind of man.
Let us not twist him, torment him and throw him to

Let us not make his history

Let us make man’s ascendance a celebration,
a testimony of wonders, a whisper that unknown will

Let us cause gardens in the nooks and zones in his heart
to blossom flowers of colors and joy
and springs of ways to materialize new dreams
    everyday.
Let him be free and to be wherever.
    Let him be whatever
    and let him be together,
    together and
    together
in breathing and action and in communications.
Let us adore man and embrace him..
Let us explore heavens in him
and glories and promise for others.
Let us not teach him but learn from him
what is better and good and what is light and beauty.
Let us not make him alone. Let us give him time,

But the question is will that eventuality make humans useless,as Yuvan points out,or will it make us ,at last, free to pursue our true potential as humans? Freed from the constraints of being earning members always.
AI compounded with the predictions on longevity really make living a daunting task,if not for my generation then surely for my kids'

Yeswanth ji, ,the first two paragraphs of your observations are absolutely bang on and have been the bane of human existence since Time Immemorial and despite the so-called leaps and quantum leaps of progress over time in the world, humans have been numbed into thinking that 'work is worship', by generations, never letting them truly relax and take it easy without the burden of guilt! And all things pleasurable, tasty, leisurely,feel-good
or/and delicious are invariably branded bad, unhealthy and damaging to life.
Scripturally, when Adam partook of the forbidden fruit Eve handed, they both were 'punished' by God "to eat only by the sweat of their brow"(hardwork)for the rest of their and their descendants' life! That punishment seems to have permeated into every human psyche right across the world ever since!!

I love his way to think and see the world. I want to point out though that "political famine" is worse than natural in my opinion, so I kind of disagree about the huge achievement there. People not being able to feed others due to natural disasters or being unable to grow and transport enough food is beyond our control. But having enough for everybody but not distributing food because of ideology or political reasons, shows that we have a huge problem with compassion and ethics. If we have systems in place that politically and ideologically keep us from caring for one another its time to abolish those systems. If we have systems that demand growth and competition for growths sake and at the cost of environmental destruction, then its time to abolish those systems. Also on an individual level it's time to question what we want and what we really need and not blindly follow the consumerism culture. most people don't realize how interconnected everything is and how much suffering our culture causes others and even ourselves. data in so many areas from psychology to econmy to environment shows that our culture is neither sustainable nor healthy. maybe it's time to wake up

I don't think that the end of wars is due to some greater wisdom developed throughout the 20th century. It is different from the end of famine and disease. These last two are the result of scientific and technological progress. I think the decline of the war is related to the development of market economies, and with it the decline of nationalism and society itself, and its replacement by individuals with no connection to each other but the market. It has a tragic point, and conservative thinkers understand it better than liberals. It is one aspect of modern life that is getting worse with time.

@@kaigogolin515 The challenges he highlights are real, but he neglects the moral and spiritual problems of the disintegration of society as a biological organism that constitutes an important part of our humanity. It is true that individual human organisms are free from the demanding and oppressive social constraints of the past. Two hundred years ago, for example, men killed each other in duels "just" for honor. This is good at the individual level, but at the social level, I am not sure. What I am sure is that humans are very social creatures, and they always lived in a complex social fabric that left very little room to individual identities. In psychology there is a name for this new kind of being: WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrial, Rich and Democratic), and they are different from everything that came before the industrial revolution. We are the weird exception to the thousands of years of humanity that came before us, and although the world we created is amazing, I think there is a price to be paid at the social level.

It could also be seen that Yuval, out of his field of expertise, lays out his perspective. It could be to us and educated people like you to build upon it. I feel often that we just go and look for the negative or not so perfect aspect in others. To come to a point.... what is your thought regarding a solution or way forward considering the arguments you brought forward?

João de Carvalho I just thought about something else. Could it be that our human emotional or instinctual condition barely changed since we left the trees? Could it be that we are consuming as if we still have to hoard and gather as much as possible to survive. This is exploited by industries you mirror the same behavior. What we need to do is learn our selves to be able and see through those cravings for security in material gain as outdated? We seem to have progressed our technologies and powers but couldn’t keep up to evolve with them. I feel like there is abundance and we don’t see it. ...Wired? We need to train our minds to see through our delusions and realize what is actually reality.

    • @joaodecarvalho7012
      @joaodecarvalho7012 5 лет назад

@@kaigogolin515 I think the problem of social structure is something Harari should be thinking about. As I said, almost every aspect of life is improving as history moves forward, with this important exception. And social structure is linked to spirituality and the meaning of life, which are things that some people complain about our civilization.
I personally think that small autonomous communities are the way to go. The main political agents of a new advanced global civilization should be neither individuals, nor nation-states, but small communities or extended families. Our emphasis on the individual is a feature of WEIRD societies, which are not good representatives of the human being.

If someone doesn't have a strong will to live and gets sick - well, they will die. Also, it doesn't seem like there was time to sit around and let internal demons drive you to suicide, you had to work. There wasn't a strong belief in being happy, but on working and being moral - happiness was for the afterlife.
