actually, there are serval mangas made in the U.S., but you can tell the difference because we americans don't follow alot of classic manga rules. oh, and the american mangas tend to suck more.
but yet anime and manga are the same, they're both considered anime to some people if not everyone only difference is what form it takes whether it be animated or it be manga. They both come from Japan, manga wise there is at least one manga series that was made here in the US at least to my knowledge that is.
