I often use negative spaces when painting leaves and flowers. It helps me get the best contrast once I have the background, then I can focus on the flower and leaves for example. It's a useful technique to practise as it really helps to develop hand-eye coordination too. I love your style of teaching and the fun approach you have to art. You have a very calming voice and you seem to communicate much more than art through your videos.
I’ve never tried drawing around negative space first but looks like an interesting and effective technique. I appreciate how you don’t get too caught up on small missteps or wonkiness. Better to keep moving forward toward completion. Thank you!
I really enjoyed watching you tackle the negative space and even to see that it will not be perfect and that’s is OK. The more you practice the more your observation will be alert and sharper, to this tricky angle will maybe make an adjustment, to try a change, as to where you start out the drawing for the next time. It is like working a puzzle.
Thank you for all the art and inspiration you bring! I love your style and the way you teach and explain the topics suits me ver well. Thanks for all the efford you give in your vods.
That was great - thank you for your tips. I also like that you embrace your "mistakes" (although there are NO mistakes in art LOL). Thanks for this, I must incorporate that into my drawing attempts! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
That was wayyyyy to difficult for me. I don't know how to draw. Drawing is something that I thought I can learn so I watch a lot of videos but so far even the basic tutorials are for people who can draw a little they're not for people like me who are in there 40's, and never drew anything other than a square and a circle but, I do appreciate art and the artist creativity. I'm always blown away by how talented these youtube artist are especially the pin&ink and urban sketchers. I think you have to have 2 things to be able to draw: an eye to see things as they are and put in on paper and creativity, to imagine something and draw or paint it as you imagine it. I have some skills but those two skills are not in my tool box.
Have you heard of Danny Gregory's book "How To Draw Without Talent"? The description on the website starts like this: "Drawing is a skill that you can learn, just like tying your shoe or riding a bike. And this is just the book to show you how. Start drawing the way you’ve always wanted to with How to Draw Without Talent. I’ll lead you through bite-size lessons that will have you seeing like an artist and drawing confidently right away. Get started fast with tips and tricks to turbo-charge your skills, quiet your inner critic, and boost your confidence" It's a fantastic and fun book, it might be very helpful: www.dannygregory.com/books
Thanks for this video explaining negative space. I have a question about the Lamy Safari (you often use), do you feel that the EF nib is a fine as the G nib in Dip pens? Thank you
Thank you for this inspirational video Koosje! I love writing and drawing with a fountainpen as well. I assume you use waterproof ink for this drawing, which kind is working best for you (especially with the lamy)?
I use Platinum Carbon Black ink. And Rohrer&Klingner has all kinds of colors SketchInk that are also suitable for fountain pens. I use a converter in my Lamy (made by Lamy), to use ink from bottles.
Very interesting technique! Koosje, I’d love to see your take on neurographic art. Would you be willing to look into it and do a segment for us? All the best! ❤️

@@KoosjeKoene Thanks! 😘

I can’t answer that because I don’t know what the G nib is like and I never use the EF Lamy… 🤷🏻
@@KoosjeKoene Thank you for your very quick response.

@@KoosjeKoene thank you! I use the converter as well. But did not find the right waterproof ink yet. Im going to try this😊

I’ve never done that but I do enjoy automatic drawing now and then. I believe there are similarities but it’s quite different.
What is the pen?
